Player Participation VS PSU

Submitted by umbig11 on
Here is the player participation list by position for the PSU game. No real surprises. The only one that caught my eye was Bunting got one play in before Asiasi. Asiasi has taken over the backup role to Butt the last couple weeks in practice. However, Asiasi showed what he could do as he got open in traffic for a TD catch. http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/092416aaa.html Hurst played very well Saturday. Third leading tackler. 3 solo tackles 3 assists and three were TFL for 9 yards. http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/092416aaa.html

Adding on to this:

If I counted right, 9 TE catches for Georgia tight ends through 4 games.

25 TE catches for Michigan tight ends through 4 games. (31 if you count Hill, but that doesn't seem completely fair).

Must have really loved Georgia.

He's gonna have to!  Safety depth next year is the main reason I've always thought Metellus would see the field this year.  Ready, or not, he needs the experience.  But your's is the first mention I've heard of him receiving praise in camp.  Glad to hear that!

In two years, I see Metellus being the boring Jerrad Wilson version of safety...  Not athletic enough to make outstanding plays, so he'll rely on positioning and form.  I'm okay with that.

He needs as much experience as he can get.

Given the mass exodus that will be upon us after this season, Harbaugh is getting these freshmen as much time on the field as they can get. There's a reason that only Peters, Spanellis, Johnson, and I think Walker, are the only guys who haven't had their redshirts burned yet. The last two are for different reasons of course, but still, these guys need to be ready to go and be major contributors come next Fall.

Next year will be almost an entirely new team.

Wheatley got in on some packages and I remember thinking who is that massive human on my tv. Asiasi seems to be the better route runner. I wonder if the ultimate goal is to rotate TEs like they rotate the running backs. I guess they are kind of doing this now, but I wonder if it will become more of a focus. Crawford had a good block on one of the TD runs near the goalline.

He played safety all yesterday...even when Clark went out. I still don't get with the thought is when you have Lewis and Stribling. Your two starters. Clark didn't start the game. It'll be the exact same starting lineup it was yesterday. Just have to find a backup CB. We know who the backup safety is (Kinnel). Watson was the 3rd CB when Lewis was out. Didn't fair extremely well, but at this point you just play the two starters pretty much the entire way. When you go dime and bring on a 6th DB (or 5.5 depending on what you call Peppers) the 6th guy is definitely Kinnel. But how often do we run dime?

I'd be interested to know how many snaps Clark got WITH Stribling on the field. My natural reaction is...no one. Strib and Lewis just go the whole way and get spelled every now and again by Watson, Long or Washington. I didn't notice Clark and Strib on the field together much, seemed to be rotating. Now you just go with Channing the whole way and you have Thomas and Hill and Peppers in his hybrid role. Seems like the obvious answer to me, but what do I know? Kinnel is definitely next up at safety...when they pulled Peppers they seemed to move Dymonte to his spot and put Kinnel in at safety. He also came in when Hill got banged up.

Has Nate Johnson played all year? Also, did Bredeson get his early game snaps? I didn't notice him. Who played C when the backups came in? Random thoughts: Hurst should start over Godin, IMO...Glad Furbush is back...Gedeon is already playing better than all 3 starters from last year.

Nate Johnson played in the "garbage time" against UCF, but not before or since.  Which is not the ideal way to use a true Freshman, I would think.

I didn't see Bredeson until the end, but I might have missed him earlier.

Kugler was the center with the backups in the 4th quarter.

One of the great mysteries of the last couple years of Michigan football is going to be how on earth Gedeon was not able to supplant one of the starters in 2015. He is a better all-around player than any of them.

Agreed. The only thing I can think of is that it was close last year and that group had SO much experience and leadership with the team. It's obviously not that Gedeon got more time in the system like the offensive players can say. But after a full off-season of being THE MAN, Gedeon is playing better than all 3. Love how he's getting downhill and attacking the ball. McCray has been very solid as well. Toss in Peppers and the group is way better.

Since he is the primary backup for Peppers, it is good to see him back.  Now that we are heading into the "heavy" part of the B1G schedule, I'm sure he'll see plenty of time.

Wisconsin seemed to lean to MSU in the same way we did PSU.

I think Michigan's front 7 is a lot better and I didn't see much from Wisconsin in terms of accurate deep throws. Which is our weakness unless Lewis is defending the play.

I think we matchup a lot better than MSU. The short/intermediate stuff, we're okay with...it's been the deep stuff or tempo and misalignment that's killed us. Neither seem to be WIsconsin's game.

Flip to the other side of the ball and our offense has a pulse, meanwhile O'Connor may be the worst QB in the B1G.

My only fear against Wisconsin is that our coaches have gone to the Stanfordization of playing jumbo packages asTON in the past 3 games. I don't think we can line up and run right at the Badgers. They've got some GREAT LBs.

I think we're much better off trying to stretch them wide and getting them in space because I don't think they can match up with us on the perimeter. We're going to need some of that creativity we had last year that we haven't needed this season (thus far).

Quick screens...if they corners are off, stand up and fire it out to Chesson and Darboh and let them get 5 yards and see if they can break a tackle for more. Use Higdon and Evans and get on the edges. When you do run at them do it from spread concepts like out of the gun. Get the ball in the hands of Peppers 5-7 times early and use him as a decoy late.

Stretch them out wide then let Smith have a field day with the fake screen draws and the delays.

I don't think MANBALLing them from the start is going to work...save it for the second half when you've got them on their heels.

I know we all say we're going undefeated at the beginning of the year. But I'll be extremely disappointed if we're not headed into Columbus. We're better than everyone else on our schedule and it's not even that close if we play how we can play (even if they play how they can play). Go 11-0 and get to C-Bus and it's one game. We can matchup, go get the W.

but "got open in traffic" literally consisted of running directly to a spot and turning around. It's not like he shook a guy in man coverage and came back to the ball while the QB was under duress. That was great play design more than anything.

Is Brady Pallante still working with the team in some capacity? I didnt know if he might still be helping out the coaches or working with the strength staff. There was someone in a white polo on the sidelines during the game that looked exactly like him. As a matter of fact, this person (whether it was Pallante or not)had his fist raised along with the group of players during the anthem.
