Pickin' & Grinnin' AFC/NFC Championships + Open Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

We are down to 3 meaningful games in the football season, 2 today and then the Super Bowl in 2 weeks.  About to go fire up cooking for brunch, but before I did that I wanted to post this for the football junkies amongst us.   NFC goes first at 3:05, followed by the AFC.  Both games have the home team favored by 6 pts.

@ Atlanta      6          Green Bay      on Fox

@NE              6           Pittsburgh       on CBS

I am a minority on this board in that I like Aaron Rogers and think he is at the top of his game. However, I think Green Bay is down to having some of the food vendors at Lambeau field play in the defensive backfield, so I'm not holding out much hope that the Pack wins, but let's not forget Jake Ryan, too.  That said, Matt Ryan, the Falcons QB, hasn't won much so maybe it's his turn.

As for the NE game, of course our very own Tom Terrific is our house favorite.  I do think Pittsburgh will give them a great game, and that it's more of a 'pick 'em' scenario.

So, in the next-to-last weekend of football, who do you take, and why?

Enjoy the rest of our Sunday,

XM

toast for those who want it.  these are yesterday's eggs so they're fresh.  the bacon we did not raise b/c the kids don't like raising pigs - pigs get real big real fast, they're smart, and they can get pretty aggressive.  we use the super thick cut stuff though and we bake it at 400.  very easy way to get your bacon on.

and yeah, any early afternoon egg meal can be called 'brunch'.  i researched the statutes and its not a violation.  i don't think.

Appreciate your appreciation of Rodgers. The Packers actually get Morgan Burnett and Quinten Rollins back today to go with Randall, Clinton-Dix, Gunter, and Hyde. So their secondary is as complete as it's been this year. MSM also seems to forget that they contained Godly Bama God Julio to three catches earlier this year, but you can't cover all the weapons Atlanta has. Gotta get pressure on Matty Ice, which is easier said than done. Either that or hope Shanahan reverts to his Cleveland Browns playcalling form. I'm cautiously optimistic. GO PACK GO!

but am honestly SO sick of the Rodgers hype.
I still think GB pulls this one out.

I like NE & Pitt almost equally, but TB12 nudges me into cherring for NE.

I think Pitt gives them too much to handle today however and the Steelers head to the Super Bowl.

NFL wants Packers in the Superbowl so I'll pick them.

NFL doesn't want the Patriots in the Superbowl so I'll pick Pittsburgh.

I would love to see Tom Brady go all Conner Cook on Goddell tho and yank that Lombardi trophy from him.

I think Ryan is ready to break through, and Quinn isn't the bonehead Garrett is, so there will be no coaching disadvantage. I think Belichick and Patricia figure out how to contain Bell, and Ben is just not himself lately. The nightcap feels like a 27-16 kind of game.

As a lions fan I can't root for the packers ever. I hope they get bombed today. Hope tom keeps the GOAT talk going with another great game today and Super Bowl in a couple weeks

he ran the police side of our gang unit and was a tremendous football fan and athlete in his own right.  also from wisconsin so he loved the pack, too.  we used to pick about a dozen pro and college games each week, picking against the spread, and our weekly 'competition' was to see who picked the most winners.  ultimately it was a nice way to stay in touch over the years.   i miss that guy.

Packers win on some end of game bullshit (Rodgers lives for end of game bullshit). Patriots win and cover. PIT can't rush the passer without sending numbers and Brady has absolutely killed them on the blitz for years. NE hasn't really played any good QBs so this might be a shootout. Oven bacon over stove bacon by two scores.

is really what i envision michigan's to look like when it is fully operational. they've got a ton of weapons, a balanced run/pass attack, with a qb who is good-great. playcalling makes sense and is effective as hell. plus they're fun as hell to watch.
