The Photoshop that wasn't

Submitted by Blazefire on

Alright, I was thinking about doing a photoshop this evening, but I have decided against it. I am very depressed, because the idea was excellent, but I think it's for the best.

I was going to place our very own Donkey Rider, Taylor Lewan, atop this Donkey.

But then I thought... lets not make Jesus angry the day before a game. So no go. Maybe on Monday or something.

I submit that by posting your intentions you have already angered whoever might be angered by this so you might as well follow through . . .

(I write this because I'd like to see the end result and am not one who would be insulted).

You posted a picture of the triumphal entry and how you were planning to photoshop Taylor Lewan in. I'm not offended, but where did you think this thread was going to go, a meaningful discussion of the offensive line? Some sort of funny, time-wasting thread with hilarious comments, none of which reference religion?

religion.

What I DIDN'T expect was for somebody to make commentary. I didn't expect anyone to say, "Jesus is Dead" or "Jesus is the Savior". We don't need that. It's irrelevant. Everybody knows who Jesus is supposed to be, and everybody has their own take on that. Even the most adamant atheist can laugh and understand the concept that Jesus is all powerful, whether they believe it or not.

It doesn't need to be discussed.

I think there's a distinct difference between referencing religion, even in a humorous way - which the OP did....

and making inflamatory comments about religion - which ipkarma did.

One does not necessarily lead to the other, nor should religiously related humor or parody be equated with inciting religious debate.

Religious symbols, esp. those of the Judeo-Christian variety, are a part of our common cultural heritage.  And items from our common cultural heritage are, in turn, what humor and parody are based on.  Thus religion is fair game for humor/parody IMO and religiously related humor need not result in debate or inflammatory comments.  The former is always fair game, IMO, the latter should be off-limits on this board.

Just my $0.02.

I'd second the err on the side of caution argument.  While I don't think the OP begged for the debate to begin, he did open the door.

I'd also suggest never mentioning a politician of any kind on this board, no matter how off hand, for the same reason.

This might be slight hyperbole.

I feel partially to blame for IPKarma's faux pas.  The week of the ND game someone posted a thread about an "Incompletion Jesus" t-shirt design.  IPKarma quipped (quite hillariously) "what happened to your shirt 'Jesus can't signal touchdown when his hands are nailed down'?".  I saw the comment and laughed my ass off but, unprompted, he edited it to say "Jesus is a touchy subject, hats off to you".  Like the little red devil that sits on everyone's shoulder I implored him to repost his original comment.  He did and it earned him 25 points.  I understand why politics and religion is forbidden on the board but funny is funny and he hit that one out of the park.  He probably thought another Jesus joke would net him some more points but this one was weak.  You gotta really knock it out of the park to get points from a Jesus joke:

Need some help here, fellas.  I see a lot of newer posters coming on the board and asking questions or wanting to discuss something that's already in another thread, and the new guy gets absolutely roasted by the MGoCommunity.

At what MGoPoint threshold is one able to just start a waste of time thread like this one and have people join in rather than jumping down the guy's throat?  I'm guessing it's somewhere around 5000 points?

If it's Michigan related, just search and make sure it hasn't been posted. Then post it. There is no point thresh hold. There's no secret cabal out to stop you. If you have a problem with a post like this meant for a laugh, then fine. But don't be a moron. I don't know how many points I have. Or you. I never look at it.

NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE POINTS.

Since this thread seems to be devoted to relevant content, I wonder what the team's having for dinner tonight? I wonder if it's served buffet-style. Do you think they save each other seats? I wonder if there's a "cool guy" table. I wonder if everyone wants Denard to sit with them. Does everyone have seconds? I sat with Taylor Lewan and Patrick Omameh at the Women's Football Academy lunch, and they both had two plates of food each.

Do you think they have cookies for dessert? Maybe they bring in some big ice cream creations from Stucchi's, and cookies. I wonder if anyone has seconds on dessert. Probably big Will. He probably has five cookies, and a couple of brownies, and some apple crumble. That seems about right.
