They had them for ND last year. Worked great. Pretty sure these things have been around for years
Well seeing as how we don't open with them this is different than last year. There would be a Middle Tennessee State logo there if you used that rubric.
Well I thought for sure they'd use them for a big game against MTSU, not a meaningless game against ND, OSU, or MSU. How do you know this wasn't left up all year? Seems more than likely that would be the case but I'll defer to the guy with a UM diary. Don't you remember the tackling dummies with the block O on them? This is nothing new.
You mean the tackling dummies last seen during the Rich Rod era?
You've been really sour lately. What's wrong?

here's a video of Ben Bredeson saying they have the decals for each team they play (@ 1:58). OSU was in fact on the schedule last year so it is safe to assume the decal was up for that week and possibly others.
Jim also gave out the co-big ten champ shirts to the team, surely as a reminder that they were destroyed in The Game last year.
the point is the last 3 tenures have done stuff like this and it appears to not make much of a difference. maybe this is the year.

Stickers are fine but we need to take this to an entirely different level like Ohio State does.
For instance, I've heard from friends in Columbus that Urban Meyer actually keeps a live wolverine in a cage in his backyard.
Once a year in November he takes it out and beats the shit out of it for old times sake.
Maybe Harbaugh needs to start handing out a little “gray pants” charm whenever Michigan beats Ohio State.
April 15th, 2019 at 11:42 PM ^
The only rubric that matters is OSU being faster and more talented. These stickers aren't going to run down any receivers on crossing routes.
You can't say you want Michigan to take the rivalry more seriously but dismiss them when they attempt to do exactly that.
I never said I thought they didn't take it seriously. This stuff is all over the place in there. Nothing new.

Probably an unpopular opinion here but I think they take The Game as serious as Ohio State, we just get outplayed/outcoached every year.
April 15th, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
2015: Durkin seeing into the future and doing a Don Brown impression. Let's run the same defense every play. good idea!
2016: Noodle Arm Speight and his turnovers plus ref fuckery. Lean towards awful QB play as the culprit and the terrible tackling on 3rd down prior to JT being short.
2017: thanks, John!
2018: Don Brown got his own switch and Urban/Day whipped him with it.
yuck.
April 15th, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
And out-officiated.
April 15th, 2019 at 11:50 PM ^
If this is your definition of taking the rivalry more seriously, I feel for you.
Personally, I liked the idea of the clocks (i.e., how many days, hours, minutes, etc. it's been since we last beat Ohio State).
I think that the clocks are great, but it might be a bit overwhelming to see 3000+ days on there. The pads focus on immediacy and violence, which may be a more productive mindset. I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. But having the year-long, program-wide focus on OSU seems like a step we need to take. I believe that this kind of visible focus is important for the players and the coaches, whether it is demonstrated via clocks, pads, dartboards, etc.
One year early in Bo's tenure, we beat OSU when they were heavily favored to win. After we kicked their asses, Woody had a carpet made with the final score on it.
The OSU team had to walk over that carpet every time they went into the locker room for an entire year.
Then they beat us the next November.
The 1969 game? The previous year they hung 50 on us and Bo did what Woody evidently copied.
Fuck that clock
April 15th, 2019 at 11:01 PM ^
That's probably illegal
It is days left to prepare to play well against them. The clock counts down.
April 15th, 2019 at 11:03 PM ^
Right now I’m good with Don Brown waking up every morning for the next 200+ days thinking about that game last November.
April 15th, 2019 at 11:51 PM ^
They make a clock with that many digits?
I 100% without-a-doubt hate Michigan State more than I do Ohio State. As long as we beat Sparty (prefer pummel) I’ll take it, beating Ohio st just feels like a pipe dream at this point.
This might hurt your feelings, but MSU is weak
MSU is weak. But for awhile they were beating us up pretty well, keeping their disgusting fan base quiet by beating them needs to be done.
Yeah, I think you're all alone on that one brah.
Actually, brah, I know lots of Michigan fans that have given up believing we can beat Ohio St. Winning one out of the last 15 doesn’t feel like a huge rivalry.
"Michigan fans"
You should go join them and leave
April 16th, 2019 at 11:56 AM ^
LOL... that's what Dave Brandon told you.
April 15th, 2019 at 10:22 PM ^
Sorry, but Ohio State is Ohio State (at least in football). If you don't hate them more than MSU, you should hand in your fan card. I don't care if they beat us 1000x in a row, I'll be waiting 365 days til the next opportunity.
I’m with ya NorthernMi - I cant stand MSU. I want to se us just pummel them. Can’t stand Dantonio.
April 15th, 2019 at 11:53 PM ^
Dude we are now past them in regards to talent and coaching. I expect to beat them going forward. One hill left to climb.. and it’s a big hill.
Edit... double post. A little too enthusiastic about beating MSU.
Lol fuck off
That's such a low bar though. We must aim higher and expect better. MSU isn't even the Florida of the big ten. That's more like Wisconsin. Unfortunately ohio state (due to our 7 year hiatus) has been the Alabama of the conference for 12 - 15 years. Henne and Hart teams were good enough to win 3 of 4 off those and got none. This must change lest we be content with sweet 16 level, maybe luck into a final four happiness.
We've been expecting better for over a decade and it hasn't happened. Northern is just trying to live in the real world.
They should put that "O" in the urinals and toilets too!
April 16th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
Brutus the Buckeye's stupid, stupid, grinning face should adorn all the toilets in Schembechler Hall.
No game is more important than the Ohio State game. Every second, every minute, every hour, and so on should be dedicated towards defeating them. In one capacity or another.
Beat OSU.
Win the rest of the games.
April 15th, 2019 at 10:24 PM ^
Fuck Ohio State forever and always.
At this point, I wouldn't even care if we spent every practice preparing for Ohio State, season record be damned.
April 15th, 2019 at 11:48 PM ^
It wouldn't matter.
waaaaaah.
Ohhhh we got 'em now, boys!
This is fine. The handwringing over this kind of thing is just ridiculous though. If they do it and they lose a different game, it's because they overlooked OSU. If they don't do it and they lose to OSU, it's because they weren't focused enough. And yet, through various iterations of OSU stickers/tackling dummies/clocks/whatever it usually just comes down to who the better team is.
At this point I and I think most of the fanbase wouldn't care if we dropped a random game but beat OSU like they did to us last year.
I'd be fine with two or three games to be honest.
April 15th, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
I'd take 1-11 if it meant beating them right now. I wouldn't be happy with the season, but it would still be worth it.
