Phil Steele on Cleveland Sports Radio
On my way home from work was listening in to 92.3 in Cleveland and they had Phil Steele on. Phil talked for a while about Michigan. He said he wouldn’t be surprised if we run the table this year. He kept saying that he’s not one of those Michigan homers but he does think everything is aligning for Michigan to make the playoffs this year. When asked to give some names for heisman trophy players to watch, Shea Patterson was one of the six players he listed. He likes all four of our quarterbacks and loves the O Line. He stated that he’s picked Ohio State to beat us 11 years straight, but he’s changing is tune this year. I might have to order his magazine now :)

He's definitely not a Michigan homer, but he said the same thing on XM last week.

Nothing at all . . .

And he's the guest on the latest episode of In The Trenches with Jon Jansen podcast if you want the Michigan slant on everything.

Phil Steele has escaped the BPONE.
August 13th, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
Although he was vaccinated and never was infected.

Shhhh.....the vaccine for BPONE is still experimental. We don't know if the long term effects turn you into a Bluevod or not.....

I love listening to him on the radio. Not only does he do more research than any other analyst, the guy is extremely pleasant and polite and thanks every caller who calls in with a question.

That would be nice. I listen to Sirius XM every day, and have heard parts of several of the talking head CFB shows. The only guy they have that actually listens to callers, and even converses with them, is Mark Packer. I generally like his show, although he's not a Michigan football fan, let alone a Harbaugh fan. Otherwise, every other talker just wants to hear his own voice and dismisses callers without much thought.

Wasn't it Packer who got stuck with Hoke as a co-host a few years back when Clappy was between jobs?
That was awkward as hell. Packer had to pretend that he respected what Clappy said, even though 90% of it was coachspeak and tired cliches.

I never leave ESPNU radio in my car. Packer is great, even if he seems to somewhat enjoy a Michigan loss.
I also enjoy McElroy on the first team. The design of the show really doesnt encourage callers, but he seems to be incredibly bright and insightful. Kanell as his co-host is chuck Barkley turrible.

Agree about both McElroy and Kanell - the ex-Bama QB is a solid contributor. He seems to like a lot of what Harbaugh says and does, too, while not being the butt-kisser of Saban that one would expect. Likes him well enough, but doesn't smooch up... Kanell is just a clown.
Love the way Packer converses with callers, even if most of them are often just wrong with their opinions! He has a genuine love for the game, understands its history, and is tolerant of most views. Though he will call out people from time to time...

I TRY to resist the kool-aid this year.....I try so hard. And they just make it stronger kool-aid.
Sigh
August 14th, 2019 at 11:31 AM ^
Lion-grade kool-aid would be some of the strongest on the market

Loves our O-line...huh. I mean I hope its loveable but man it sure as hell hasn't been (the unit as a whole).

Has anyone confirmed he did pick OSU the last 11 years?
From what I've gathered on this website, he's usually very accurate. Hopefully he keeps that trend going...
August 13th, 2019 at 5:50 PM ^
He could be 100% accurate for 50 straight years, but the time he picks Michigan will automatically be the first time he's wrong. Because that's just how the universe is.

Brutus you are brutal but so true. I hope 2019 is the year that we rewrite history from last 20 years

I believe he said one of those Hoke OLs was going to be good. He was wrong. Steele just likes teams that have upperclassmen on the OL. It doesn't matter if they were good last year or not.

This^^^
He also compiles some bizarre “stats” and “metrics” that are just...bizarre.
August 13th, 2019 at 5:37 PM ^
Of course he likes our O-Line look at them

Just look at those stallions...

Does someone wanna post this for me (not enough credit) ...this is a OT video about Sam McGuffie who played for Michigan for one season and was a viral star. Interesting stuff from a guy, FlemLo Raps, who makes good videos about Last Chance U and other football stories.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nISA814Kz08

He was also on Jon Jansen's most recent In the Trenches Podcast, says the same thing, also talks about the other Big Ten teams. A very good listen.

Phil makes a great preseason mag. Pick it up every year.
August 13th, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Phil Steele just penetrated Bpone and turnt it to Gfoe*.
*who can figure it out?
August 13th, 2019 at 10:08 PM ^
I think the OL was much improved from 2017 to 2018. I'm not sure it will be a great line. I think we have the talent and size to be a good Michigan OL, may be an OL like we had in the 2003-2006 time frame. It's possible we could run the table this year. Much will depend on the offense and how much more they can score. Our D will be good but not great, so we will need to outscore the good teams this season. I hope we can finally beat OSU at home this season.

Thanks for telling about this.
