It's means they'd have better average starting field position at the end of the game...
example:
Ohio average starting field position - Own 40 yardline
Michigan average starting field positions - Own 30 yardline
The topic came about because we DESTROYED Nebraska on field position...however, Ohio is known for punting and having good special teams and winning the field position battle.
