Crap...who replaces him in the back?
Mason NEEDS this, Pistons, after all you've put him through
Crap...who replaces him in the back?
If you know, let Bob Bradley in on it. So far, nobody has.
If Gooch doesn't come back it's probably DeMerit/Boca in the middle. DeMerit's been hurt but he'll be fine, it's some weird eye issue that's been keeping him out and he's supposed to be back very soon.
the last game I watched I remember thinking DeMerit did a nice job, so that's encouraging at least.
i vote for slovenia for spot for with the USA
Now all we need is a European team starting with S and we might actually be able to advance...might
This can still all go to hell if we draw Les Blues or the fighting Ronaldos.
That was about as prefect as possible sans drawing South Africa.
Bring 'em on.
Slovenia for final team, amazing draw. They have a great defense, but not likely to score much. Possible draw, almost certain low scoring.
This sounds like as good of a draw as the US could get without being drawn to be with South Africa.
Slovenia is good, but I will take it. Dodged a bullet. Now we just have to get it done on the pitch.
Very good, Offense is meh. Upset Russia to gain entry
Non-homer. If we can get somewhat healthy, we should be the number 2 side in this group
a full strength US squad is probably favored to finish 2nd. and you know what that means!
With the exception of England, we seriously lucked out with this draw. Here's to hoping we don't choke, prompting another use of the "i know it's over and oh it never really began but in my heart it was so real" tag
When was the last time we got a favorable draw in the World Cup. Anyone ready to drop a few g's to fly down to S. Africa?
You got a damn good draw in '94. By far the weakest pool:
Romania, Colombia, Switzerland and USA.
And still finished 3rd. Although there were fewer teams in the World Cup back then and the best 3rd place finishers advanced to the knockout stages.
Wow. I guess that 13% chance that we would get a favorable draw actually came to fruition.
is your Group of Death. 3 very good (sometimes) teams, plus never underestimate someone playing for his daily ration of food.
Wow Group G is death
"Welcome back to the World Cup N. Korea" come again in 40 years I guess
Well, at least its an ideal time to defect.
People I don't envy over the next 7 months: North Korean journalists. Good luck spinning this.
want to talk to Baby Seal U. They figured how to turn the game into a win.
I'm so excited. Seriously. Why do we have to wait :(
I'm excited too, but I would be willing to wait to possibly get back Oneywu and Davies.
Edit: I also forgot about Jermaine Jones and Castilla(sp??) getting more practice with the team.
There are a lot of wild cards in our roster that could result in us being even stronger than in Qualifying, or as disjointed as ever.
I shudder to think what will happen if Bradley has to make the decision sit little Bradley down in favor of Jones. More likely he gets moved up a little, which he's probably better suited for anyway, given his penchant for charging up field and out of position.
Damn, I even forgot about Maurice Edu. If Bradley makes the right decisions and our players are working well together, we could have a really good midfield.
Sat June 12 England
Fri June 18 Slovenia
Wed June 23 Algeria
Plan your off days accordingly.
All of these games are close to each other so travel won't be much of an issue for US team and the fans making the trip.
overall, great draw for us. it could've been a lot worse.
We'll be underdogs in the first game, while England will be expected to get maximum points out of that draw. They'll have a lot of pressure.
Plus that whole revolution a few centuries back.
That was as good as anyone could have hoped for.
I can't wait to see those Joga Bonito commercials once again.
Will EVERYONE get an Orange wedge and Capri Sun after the game?
If we do advance and come in second we could/should get Germany in the round of 16. Tough team sure but we play them well. That is looking ahead a lil much tho
Fight to a draw against England, and take the other two...think positive man!
The one thing I worry about most is though is expectation...the US doesn't do well with that. I think with this draw, if the US doesn't make the next round, it could set US soccer back somewhat.
Germany will be favorites to win the group but I think that group is the best overall. Other than South Africa, Germany would be the team I'd be least surprised to see fail to make the knockout rounds. Australia, Ghana, and Serbia are all very strong sides. That will be a fun group to watch.
You guys got a great draw and should be favored to make it out of the group stage. Could make a good run!
We always got orange wedges and capri suns at half time. After the game we went to Lamppost Pizza. Oh how I miss those games.
It's times like this when I really miss Sven-Goran Erikksson
Frickin' sweet draw. Also exciting: If we can squeak out the group win, we get a pretty decent second-round matchup.
If not, and we get second.....uh, hi, Germany.
We tend to play pretty well against Germany. Aside from South Africa and possibly Italy, I don't think there's a seeded team we'd rather play in the round of 16.
You wouldn't rather play Italy (or shouldn't). They are a virtual lock to get into the semi's at the very least.
We played Italy to a draw in the '06 World Cup while down a man. Last year in the Confederations Cup we played them relatively well again down a man. Plus, Italy is an aging team. It's certainly arguable as to whether they're a better matchup for the U.S. than Germany.
Bottom line is that the U.S. would have to advance to the semifinals to meet Italy and we both know that isn't happening.
Yeah, if you have to play Italy, you want to play them in the very first game, which they often drop. Once in the knockout stages, they only lose on penalties or horrible homer calls.
2002 horribly reffed loss to S. Kor
Not to burst your bubble, but 1) no way you take the group and 2) you guys play Germany really tight. I would say that is a best case scenario for you.
Good luck though. More than many most sports, anything can happen in soccer.
