OT: Who Ya Got for the NBA Finals?

Submitted by BornSinner on

We got 2 Rookie head coaches, Lebron's redemption story and the Splash Bros featuring Riley Curry.

This is actually an interesting match up b/c this series seems pretty wide open to me. I would think the Warriors would win due to their depth, but Lebron n co have been playing on another level since Love went down.

Seeing MGrowOld not be a miserable Cleveland sports fan for once on this board would be quite refreshing too...

And then we got the gif representing what happened to James Harden last game after he set the NBA record for most turnovers in a postseason game at 13.

The Based God/Lil B curse is real folks.

Did anyone think Draymond Green was gonna blow up the way he did in the NBA? Dude is going to make a lot of dough this upcoming year in FA.

Hated him as a player in college obviously, but love the hussle and energy he plays with in the NBA.

We thuggin', we theivin', we put it in deep.

With a healthy Kyrie the Cavs could win.  So many shooters for a GS team that rolls 9 deep.  There will be no place to hide Kyrie on defense if he's running on a gimpy knee.

As a Clevelander it pains me to say Warriors in 7.

However, after watching some of the Warriors games, they have been nowhere near as physical as Cleveland's with the Celtics/Bulls/Hawks.

Everyone will pick the Warriors, but the Cavaliers will win.    No one on the Warriors can guard Lebron.

The Cavs have length.  Tristian Thompson is rebounding like a beast and I don't forsee many second chance opportunities and wide open shots -something Houston continually gave Golden State.  If Harden would have just shot the ball in Game 2, the series is likely still going.

I think the key will be Kyrie Irving.    He has the ability to force Curry to play defense and work on both ends.

Cavaliers in 6.

dumb post...you are saying a direct matchup can offer no evidence one way or the other because it occurred in the regular season...did Golden State, the team that won 67 games didn't try when the best player in the country came to town?

...should win and are playing a green Warriors team in the finals. Most people outside of Ohio will "root" for the Warriors to win because fuck that Ohio State fan Lebron...and who can root for Lebron over Curry/Thompson.

Wishful thinking that Lebron goes 2 for 6 in finals appearances yet people continue to argue he is better than 6/6 Jordan... or even 5/7 Kobe (threw that in there just to irk the Lebron jersey burners/re-purchasers)!

I spit on the Sports Gods....there is no way Lebron can lose this...I guarantee a Cavs championship.

He never once said he was going to Ohio State back then.  If anything I bet he would have went to Akron to play with Dru Joyce and Romeo Travis.  He only says it now because it sounds good to Cleveland fans who mostly root for Ohio State.

The guy went to an Indians/Yankees playoff game in a Yankees hat, plus he's a Cowboys fan.

And he always went to Ohio State games because they were outfitted with LBJ gear.

Akron? You think the number one recruit in the country would have gone to...Akron? Played for the Zips? Quit drinking and go to bed. I don't care that you posted this at 9:25 AM.

As a side note, it's fun to go back and look at the top-100 for LeBron's senior year, 2003. Dion Harris was the lone guy UM got that year, Kris Humphries was committed to Duke (!) until he switched at the last minute to Minnesota, Kendrick Perkins was the #9 recruit, and Chris Paul was #52. http://espn.go.com/recruiting/s/020703top100.html

I'm honestly fine with either team winning. I'd like to see lebron get another ring, but I think he falls short again as golden state is too good offensively for Cleveland to keep up over seven games

Please, please, please, please....Please change your handle to SoCal Wolverine, not "Cali" - everyone outside of SoCal knows the Dubs.

In SoCal they're still patting themselves on the back for discovering LA has a 2nd nba team once the Lakers missed the playoffs. Then jumping ship in droves when the Clips choked away that huge 4th period lead vs Houston.

And in a few years, when the Warriors move back into The City and drop the GS to once again become SF, then the SoCal crowd can truly hate.....Dubs in 6!!!!!!!!!

We like to call them the Lakers North...with all of the Lakers connections. I also don't know of this 2nd team in LA you speak of. Nobody except skinny jean wearing contrarians like the Clippers. The crowd at the Dodgers Game actually cheered when they heard the Rockets beat the Clippers. If the Clippers moved back to Seattle with Balmer nobody would notice. There is a reason the worst Lakers team I can remember had almost 9x the television ratings of the best Clippers team I can remember (and that you could buy Clippers playoff tickets for a discount on Living Social).

There are probably more Warriors fans than Clippers fans in LA. There are definitely more Warriors owners in LA than SF. And since you appear to be one of those elitist NoCal Giants fans...how does that make you feel to know the Warriors are owned by a group of business men that all choose to live in SoCal...and also own a share of the Dodgers? Go Warriors, go Dodgers!

Cavs in 7. And I'll be at all the games in C-town screaming my head off hoping to end this 50 year curse. We will win by controlling the glass and keeping Curry & Co to one shot-just like we did to Atlanta. And our new physical style of play (side benefit of losing Love and inserting TT into the starting line-up) matches up well with the Warriors. I do agree that Kyrie's health is the X factor and I he can't go we're in trouble.

FWIW-I keep reminding myself that Red Sox fans felt the same way I do back in 2004 before they finally broke through.

Golden State hasn't played a good Defensive team minus Memphis who gave them some trouble. I also see Memphis as a post defensive team. With Lebron and Shumpert I don't think Curry and Thompson will have the easy looks they got vs Houston. I also see Delly annoying Curry a lot. Should be a fun one.

Interesting viewpoint. I watch a lot of basketball- be it high school, college, or NBA- mostly just because I am a huge fan of the game and I have never once thought that the pros don't play hard. Sure, the regular season may be watered down a bit (much like many other sports) but I think the NBA playoffs is one of the most compelling events in all of our sports. And I have certainly never thought it was "shit." The talent level at which the game is played is unfathomable at times. Watching how both of these teams are currently playing is nothing short of great, in my opinion.

I don't pay attention to the Nba during the regular season at all, except to see how the Pacers are doing.  I do love the playoffs though and that San Antonio La Clippers game 7 this year was one of the best basketball games I have seen in years.  The playoffs is still compelling.  It's a lot like baseball or hockey, I really can't watch or make it through a baseball or hockey game during the regular season, but come playoff time, both sports become very compelling.  The only sports I care about the regular season are college football and EPl soccer.  I'll catch the red zone channell for the NFl, but I really don't care about the NFl until the playoffs either.

Kyrie is going to be huge in this series. He doesn't have to be they guy, he just has to be good. My guess is that if he can go 25 and 5 every game, cavs win. That would force Thompson to guard Irving, Green, Barnes, or Iggy to guard LeBron, and that might mess them up. Can steph guard Shumpert or Smith?
