OT: What would you do if you won the lottery?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

What would you do if you won the record lottery amount? The record for a single ticket claim is $590.5M which came out to a payout of $370.9M to one lucky person in Florida two years ago.

How would you celebrate? Would you buy anything right off the bat? Would you quit your job in a fun way? Would go big and buy a mega-house in a fancy location?

Would you do anything Michigan-related? Perhaps go and watch them play in bowl games, the CFP or NCAA Tournaments in Basketball?

I would do the opposite of most people. I'd pay off my parents bills and move them wherever they would like with their favorite cars. For myself though, I would have a nice log cabin built in the extreme wilderness of a mountainous state. Would buy about 2500 acres and spend my days hiking, fishing, hunting, and photographing wildlife. I am a Sasquatch believer so I would also spend my time searching for it. I wouldn't spend a lot of money at all.

Buy up about 1000 acres and raise bison. And go hunting. And traveling. Build a nice sized ranch house with like a 60x40 ice rink in the basement. And an enclosed pool. I've thought about this before.

Thank God nobody came up with the idea to repaint Michigan Stadium, and maybe add a halo with writing around the rim.

Only Tim Horton's should have writing on the rim (although I am getting really tired of seeing "Please Play Again").  TimHo shouldn't be harder to win than the Lottery!

1) Give half of that away to a charity of my choice, maybe Wounded Warriors or something. $370 million is more than enough for ten lifetimes, much less one.

2) Quit my job. Not in any spectacular or ridiculous way, but just put in my two weeks.

3) Open and run a chain of animal shelters.

4) Buy my parents the summer home in NC they've always wanted.

5) I'm not going out and buying some huge mansion or ridiculous Wall Street penthouse, but I'd want a summer home up in the Charlevoix / Petoskey area.

I'd donate ~$584 million, leaving me ~$4 million after taxes. I'd pay off all debt; move to Ann Arbor; invest the rest Vanguard mutual funds (withdrawing 3% per year); start my own company so that I can work when I want; buy season tickets to all Michigan sports, the Lions, the Tigers, and the Red Wings (but no the Pistons because fuck the NBA); travel to all 50 states and numerous other countries over the next 50 years.

purchase the 110 acres down the road from my home in Hillsdale and then buy a place either in Savannah GA or St. Simons Island GA.

Buy a helicopter. Wake up, get the coffee going, go about my usual morning routine, then jump in said helicopter and head towards columbus. If I time it correctly the coffee shit will be hitting me as I'm nearing the horseshoe. I'd hover a few hundred feet over the 50 yard line and take a big crap right in that block O. I'd do this everyday, weather permitting.

I would of course donate a decent chunk to a couple charities I really like. THEN I would become a minority owner of a professional team of some sort (yes soccer -- shut up).  I would get a house in Switzerland, the Bahamas and northern Michigan. I would spend a hell of a lot of time traveling the world. I would also take my parents to Europe (my Dad is a huge WWII buff and has never been) -- And finally I would get a vasectomy just to make sure I didn't ruin all the fun. That ought to do it.

I have this all thought out.

If I ever win the lottery and it is that size, then I am going to find somebody who is filthy rich and get his attorney on the phone.  I will then offer to to sell that person the ticket at a tiny fraction of the value (one or two million).  He will then get to claim it.  Since the guy is already rich, the money won't attract extra attention to him, nor will it destroy his life the way that it destroys the lives of most lottery winners.  I will take the proceeds and use them to pay off my house and fund my kids' college savings accounts so that they will be able to go to any 4-year college and any post graduate program that they want without incurring any student debt.  Then I would keep working as if nothing ever happened.  I wouldn't tell anyone besides my wife.

law firm with accountant to provide guidance and protection over threats to wealth and family, 2. Pay off all debt, 3. Travel, travel, and more travel, 4. Finance a research and documentation, and disclosure project regarding the long history of the presence of extra-terresrial life and what amounts to the military/industrial complexes' factions within the governments that have a long time history of secrecy regarding same, done in a way that effectively educates the entire global community. I would help the world lose its dependence on fossil fuels, and help eliminate poverty and hunger. I have absolutely no experience with lotteries, just discovered togel deposit pulsa and now I am thinking about trying it out. So, basically, what are the actual chances to win. Anyone here became a lottery winner? Just curious.
