OT - What does everyone do for Halloween?

Submitted by Scoman169 on October 31st, 2019 at 6:41 PM

Surprised there isn't a thread about this already, but I'm interested in what everyone does for Halloween?

I have kids young enough to trick or treat, so in driving them around.  Thankfully, they're old enough I don't have to walk with them.  The weather is brutal tonight.

Also, my wife is super creative and does some crazy pumpkin cravings.  I'll share some in the comments.  She has carved Jim Harbaugh, Jim Leyland, each of our kids, and a pumpkin with her and I on it (among others).  I'll share this year's (3) below.

Tonight, I'm home in A2 handing out Reese Cups to lots of little kids.  My wife won't be home for a few hours so it's just me.  I thought it would be drudgery but looking at the smiles from little kids makes it all worthwhile.

Passing out full size candy bars, not those puny bite size ones.

Love the reaction of the trick or treaters when they see the treats!!!

Rain mixed with snow here in West MI.

Slow night.....

We have a very kid-friendly street - one long block, no through traffic, good sidewalks, so we get a ton of kids (>300).

Even though our kids are all growed up and living on their own, I still decorate, including carved pumpkins. And we still hand out candy (2 giant Costco bags).

I just love the look of the tiny ones when they come to the door. I'm going to be a really mushy grandpa when that time comes.

Passing out candy, but it's slow. We have a 15-mo old, so too young to go out yet, but I have to say I'm really looking forward to those years.

It’s raining in A2 and I live on a dead end street.  The wife is at her Thursday woo hoo enlightenment crap, so I’m at Good Time Charley’s for a $5 burger and large Soft Parade. We get about 12 trick or treaters on a beautiful night. so I think I made a good decision

I let everybody else do all the work. I'll just sit back, eat and drink, and watch Nightmare with the fam. I don't really care about Halloween much, and they really do, so I let them have at it. I make up for it on Thanksgiving. That's when I pull out all the stops.

Was super excited to have Halloween in college at UofM. Last year I had five classes on Halloween and was so exhausted I went right to bed when I got home and this year I'm writing a paper due at midnight. The Michigan Difference... I guess

Trick or treating with the kids, then to the party the local police department throws every year, then home to sleep - tomorrow's a school day!

My 16 year old daughter and her friends are handing out the candy. This is the first time in about 20 years we haven't had one of the kids out trick or treating. End of an era I guess.

Terrible rain in VA tonight, including tornado watches, so we stayed home with the boy.  Watching Indiana Jones with him, with his favorite cake in the oven (strawberry) and a bunch of candy for an in-house trick or treat.

In 14 years here, not one kid has shown up for candy.  We live on a forested cul-de-sac with 5 other houses on the entire road.  Isolated, you could say...

The dog is wearing his Mickey Mouse outfit.

Older daughter went to a party. Younger daughter is out trick or treating with friends.

I'm at home on pass out candy duty.

Which basically means drinking Brim Reaper Rye IPA and watching It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

I bought some KBS and after one bottle I gave out 700 pieces of candy to a couple hundred trick or treaters.  I'm not a huge people person but I love seeing the little kids all dressed up in their costumes.  It is one of my favorite things about suburbia.  After Trick or Treating has ended I pour another KBS and watch The Great Pumpkin with my daughter.  A pretty solid day all things considered.

My wife and I love handing out candy and seeing all the costumes but, alas, we're overseas right now and nobody trick or treats in our neighborhood.  Our old neighborhood really got into it, which we miss.
