OT: What's Special K Doing at American Airlines Arena?

Submitted by NOLA Wolverine on

Or in otherwords, general playoffs / drinking thread. This might currently qualify as the slowest day on the MGoBoard since the off season began. Lots of great playoff action tonight, no reason for you to be going outdoors and what-not just yet. Tony Parker and Brian Bickell appear to be winning the night so far to me. Speaking of which, are Wings fans still on board with going after Brian Bickell? Looks like he'll cost a pretty penny during this off season...

For those confused/angry about the thread title, a playlist consisting of Seven Nation Army has been on shuffle tonight in the first game of the NBA Finals.

That's complete revisionist history based on how he left the Wings. He won an MVP, 2 Selkes, and finished with just under 500 regular-season NHL goals, iirc. If that's Federov at 70%, he must have been one of the top 5 forwards all-time.

Fedorov was a beast. Don't forget the guy played on the blueline on occasion for the Wings and did that for a good long while when he was on the Blue Jackets. I forget which Wings asst said if you put him on the blueline for a season, he'd have a shot at a Norris.

Bickell has had a hell of a playoffs, and with Franzen always playing lazy after signing his big deal I think he could bring a big presence to the wings. Moving to the East next year they're going to need some more big bodies and he definitely fits that bill.

Are you serious? Byfuglien is one of the best defensemen in the league and has been putting up more points on D than he did on offense with Chicago. Buff is twice the player that Bickell is.

LA Kings pushing down the pedal here after going up 1. Crawford fending off a breakaway attempt. Chicago now with the 5 on 3.

I wonder how much Bickell can command here, more than Brunner money?

In reality, the Wings don't have nearly as much cap space as people think once they sign their RFAs, etc. Assuming they try to keep Brunner, sign their young RFAs, and let Fil and Cleary walk, they have between 7 to 4 mil (depending on deals). They have lots of depth at forward. A healthy Helm goes a long way toward helping the bottom 6. My vote is targeting a top 4 blue liner. A decent vet to pair with DeKeyser would be ideal.

I know most of you around here hate the NBA, but the first half has been quality basketball by both teams. This is going to be a great series. Go Heat!

Patrick Kane was inches away from goal stealing his way out of his slump it appears. Tied up 2-2 near the end of the 2nd. Or I guess they gave it to him. Patrick Kane's back everyone!

Not enough points to start a new thread, but....

Is this what happens to mgobloggers who get sent to Bolivia? It makes me terrified to contribute.

From ABC news.

Villagers in Bolivia's southern highlands buried a man alive in the grave of the woman he is suspected of having raped and murdered, an official said Thursday.

Police had identified 17-year-old Santos Ramos as the possible culprit in the attack on 35-year-old Leandra Arias Janco Sunday in a Quechua community near the municipality of Colquechaca, said Jose Luis Barrios, the chief prosecutor in Potosi province where the community is located.

Enraged, more than 200 community members seized Ramos and buried him alive alongside his alleged victim Wednesday night, according to Barrios. He said residents on Thursday blocked the road to the community, preventing police and prosecutors from reaching it.

A local reporter for an indigenous radio station, who would only speak on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, told The AP that Ramos was tied up at the woman's funeral. Mourners threw him into the open grave, placed the woman's coffin in it and filled the grave with earth.

Colquechaca is a town of 5,000 inhabitants located 207 miles (333 kilometers) southeast of Bolivia's capital, La Paz.

Also in Potosi, residents of the Quechua indigenous community of Tres Cruces on Wednesday stoned to death a suspected thief and burned his accomplice alive, Barrios said. The official said the two had earlier robbed a car and killed its driver.

Lynchings sometimes occur in rural and poor parts of Bolivia were police and other authorities are scarce.

Wow, talk about taking matters into your own hands.  Burying someone alive?  Stoning someone to death?...I'm sure they received a fair trial.

: /

Then again, there's something to be said about swift justice, and not spending millions of taxpayer dollars while someone sits on death row for 20 years.
