TO THE HOT TAKE CANNON
OT Well, at least the Irish suck too
At least (insert team) sucks too. The 4-0 start got everyone a little to high on the prospects for this team. That start also provided teams with film on the D which was doing it with smoke and mirrors. While its not likely we beat OSU, I didn't think Iowa had a chance with a first time starting QB in the shoe and they almost pulled it off. It's our biggest rival and just maybe the players get jacked up enough to pull it off.
He's going to be one of the hottest commodities in college football in years after the season's over, if not before. It would seem like ND would be the logical place for him to end up, but if you're Kelly do you want to go there? Are the downsides equal to the upsides, such as the alleged difficulty in getting talented players into ND?
In addition to Weis, I think it's safe to say that Hawkins is done at Colorado, and Groh at Virginia, and very possibly Zook at Illinois, but I wouldn't think that any of those places could come close to ND in terms of attractiveness overall to Kelly.
ND could really throw a curve by retaining Weis, but that would not sit well with the alumni.
is what its all about.
For many highly talented players, NCAA football is all about preparing for the NFL, not about college itself. Requiring calculus, small catholic college, distance from an urban center; these are all factors which turn-off guys who just want to practice, play and party. ND can get some guys who buy into the tradition in South Bend, it just hasn't been able to get enough of them.
Personally, I'd rather Brian Kelly go somewhere outside the midwest.
I bet Brian Kelly is on his way to South Bend after this season - there's no justification to keep Weis around at this point. He's had 5 years. Unfortunately for M fans, he's out.
Charlie's bacon (and he has a lot of it) is cooked and I do believe Brian Kelly will be heading to ND. It won't take Kelly long to get ND back on top which could spell future misery for M if RichRod doesn't start righting M's ship soon.
but having ND 'suck' is no consolation to this M fan. What's really depressing is the prospect of another (LONG) off season without a bowl and lots of ANGST.
I almost hope Charlie the Tuna is able to pull off two wins to end the season and keep his job for another year. At that point, I'm thinking all of the 'good' head coaching candidates will be employed elsewhere.
Call me when we're good enough to rub it in.
Well if Kelly is looking to step up the ladder, then I don't know where else he would go but Notre Dame. As much as I hate to say it, Notre Dame is pretty much the top place you can go, much like Michigan. If he were to move from Notre Dame to say an Oklahoma it would only be a lateral move.
So unless Florida opens up, I think he will end up at Notre Dame. He can take Cincinnati very far if he stays there, but he won't ever have the resources he would if he went to Notre Dame.
college football landscape over the last several years. I hate to say it, but it's true. Right now, we are recognized for our futility rather than our success.
Notre Dame has one thing no other team in college football has, every game they play is on national TV. It's sad but true. I know it's because of NBC, but they still are the only ones. So team popularity is truly regional.
The difference between the two programs right now is, we will rise again, they may not.
Normally I'd take some solace in their sucking, but not when it means that their lousy coach will lose his job. I was rooting for ND against Pitt for that reason. I fear that ND may make a good hire this time around.
We dropped the ball on this one, we should've hired Kelly, hes a real football coach, he adjusts and everywhere he goes he makes the program better with whatever talent he has. Luckily ND isn't in the big ten. So its only one guaranteed loss each year.
Because we play Big Ten teams more than once per year? And the person who convinced you that the apostrophe key causes impotence was yanking your chain.
I had an issue with the officiating in this game though. The referees blew the whistle signifying the ball was dead, so how can they award the ball to Pittsburgh? I guess I don't know the rule there, but it seems off.
Stay ranked longer than we did for a while. The great thing is the upset we gave to them this year! Highlight of our season without a doubt (that is until this weeks possible upset) But in all seriousness I could give two shits less about Notre Dame.
