OT: US vs. Wales in the World Cup
November has arrived, which naturally means that it is time for the World Cup. The United States faces off against Wales in a few minutes (2:00 p.m. EST). This is the first World Cup game for the US since a hard-fought loss against Belgium in the Round of 16 in Brazil in 2014. For Wales, this is the first World Cup they have qualified for since they reached the quarter-finals of the 1958 World Cup in Sweden!
In earlier group play, England trounced Iran, 6-2. (Yes, Wales and England have separate teams, and yes, they coincidentally are in the same group.)
The over/under for the game is 2.5 goals, while the US is favored by 0.5 goals.

I should also add that the game is on Fox.

Or Telemundo Chicago for me. Even though I don't speak Spanish it's a more enjoyable listening experience just because of the passion.

Picked up a VPN for this specific reason. Absolutely positively have no interest in most all of Fox's broadcasters. Although Ian Darke is great. All of the world's best broadcasters are broadcasting the World Cup for free on BBC/ITV in England or SBS in Australia.
That way, Chad Ochocinco is never on my TV talking about whatever it is Fox thinks I should hear from him.

i would love for the US to win but i feel like this is going to be a disappointing year and they don't make it out of the group stage. not qualifying in 2018 set them back a bit
November 21st, 2022 at 2:52 PM ^
Disagree. They look good so far against Wales. If they can win this one, they really only need to beat Iran to advance, which I would put at a greater than 50% chance.

Was hoping Brian would do a preview but guess not ideal timing this year.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
That's on him. He should be prepared. The World Cup always starts during Ohio State week.
Oh, wait . . .
November 21st, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
HAVE TO win this game. Points are going to be hard to come by in this group.

GO GREAT SATAN!!!
November 21st, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
Ah, yes. Autumn. The leaves falling, Thanksgiving coming, the World Cup starting.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
Definitely has a 0-0 or 1-1 feeling.

Anyone have a free streaming site? Mobile at the moment…
November 21st, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
Is fox not free?
November 21st, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
Just have my cell…don’t have anything other than Netflix, Amazon, and old school antenna at home which I would use but not home at the moment

I am in the same boat. I downloaded Fox Sports app from the apple App Store and am watching for free.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
You didn't have to log in with an authorized account -- i.e., cable, satellite, streaming?
November 21st, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
Apparently there is a time limit on the app. You will need a tv provider logon after an hour or so.

Thank you! Stream 9 finally worked until I downloaded the fox sports app with free preview.
November 21st, 2022 at 6:31 PM ^
It's going to be that way this world cup. FIFA is actively trying to shut streams down.

Soft yellow card.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
Soft yellow followed by a legit yellow. Not good.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
A couple of decent scoring chances for the US followed by a couple of really weak yellow cards called against the US.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
USA! USA!
November 21st, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
How is that not a corner? The fuck are these fools looking at
November 21st, 2022 at 2:22 PM ^
...and fuck Iran.

Was so excited about soccer and the US making the WC, and was fun to see LAFC win the MLS Cup, but just can’t get into the WC (yet). Not sure if it is just because nothing but The Game matters this week or because Qatar and its slave labor casts a negative shadow. US vs England should be fun though.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
I cannot recall a time I've seen the USMNT attack like this.
Hopefully they'll be rewarded with a goal for their efforts soon.
Keep it up!
November 21st, 2022 at 2:39 PM ^
I'm surprised that Wales seems to be playing so passive as well. Maybe saving it up for a bigger push later?
November 21st, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
I'll take it.
This is so much fun to watch.
November 21st, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
So the "irony" of the situation is we got our one goal on a counter in one of the few times that Wales tried to push forward.
It's VERY difficult to play the style that Wales is playing. You have to be organized. You can't let the fact that you haven't touched the ball keep you from taking advantage in the rare occasions when you do have the ball.
They've been confused, out of sorts and are likely going to try to change tactics in the second half to get back in this.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
Outrageous no yellow there.
November 21st, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
I do enjoy watching the World Cup and Olympic soccer, but that's about it. To me, it is mostly a slower, less exciting form of hockey.
And this still holds true from almost every game I've watched:
November 21st, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
About five billion people don't give the tiniest crap what you think. But at least you got your chance to make really, really clever observation the umpteenth about soccer players being soft, flopping, whatever. Now back in the crapper with yr bad self.
November 21st, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
So edgy.
November 21st, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
I'd just go ahead and own the extremely weak character of your OP, right down to the 1990s image.
November 21st, 2022 at 4:00 PM ^
Your trash talk is weaker than your logic... and makes even less sense.
November 21st, 2022 at 4:08 PM ^
These comments defending soccer is so on point given the fact the game is tied US desperate for points and Pulisic (sp?) Is laying midfield begging for a call that happened 10 secs prior. Fuck this
November 21st, 2022 at 6:33 PM ^
+1
Really disappointed seeing Pulisic pull that shit. I know he got rocked all game but I guess playing in the EU he's picked up being a whinny little bitch.
November 21st, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
Eh hockey almost has as much flopping now as soccer. And players have been known to bite on their own lip to draw the double minor...
November 21st, 2022 at 4:45 PM ^
Hockey has diving too - but 1) not nearly as much and 2) never with such embellishment. To me, it has seemed that diving has increased as the rules on hits & fighting have tightened up. I feel that it is taking away much of the true nature of the game, but I also like the song "Hit Someone" by Warren Zevon (although for some reason my wife hates that song despite liking other Zevon songs... strange.)
November 21st, 2022 at 6:34 PM ^
And generally refs call diving in hockey.
Unless you're Cindy Crosby. But otherwise, yeah.
November 22nd, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
For those who've not heard Hit Somebody by Warren Zevon, featuring David Letterman.
November 21st, 2022 at 4:45 PM ^
Double post... so, uh...
Take this random trolling internet guy from earlier!
November 21st, 2022 at 7:30 PM ^
Every now and then a real strain of lowlife nasty flows through this board. Usually it's manifested by people by people with inspired names that use numbers or letters, and who appropriate memes from hackneyed sources like the above. Warren Zevon--anything you're consuming culturally that isn't ages old and totally played?
November 21st, 2022 at 10:20 PM ^
Really going all-in on the negative bashing today, I see. Haven't you accumulated enough negs for one day?
November 21st, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
US dominating time of possession.
