OT True Detective, Season 3 and/or your Friday evening drinking thread
Is anyone watching the current season?
I have all the episodes DVRed but haven't started watching yet. Like most, I loved the first iteration but was disappointed by the second.
Just looking for some feedback, while downing some Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter from Waconia Brewing.

Love the new season of TD. Season one was slow to start but amazing. Season two was interesting but just ok. The new one may outdo those.

Colonel EH Taylor's Single Barrel Whiskey and some NBA basketball.

Love the 3rd season so far. Fantastic acting, compelling story, and interesting structure. I’m not sure if it’s as good as S1, but it’s 100x better than S2

I can count on one hand the TV shows that have ever aired that are better than TD Season 1 and not use all the fingers. Season 3 is very good so far, but Season 1 stands alone as something that it will be difficult for one season of a show to ever out-do.

Drinking black duck porter. Not watching True Detective.

Agree that season one was great and season two was lackluster. I will probably wait until GOT is back to get HBO again and then will watch season 3 then.
Had a hopslams and the just a New Belgium Imperial IPA. While Hopslam is good this year I think the market has saturated with very good IPAs so it doesn't stand out as much. Obviously just my opinion.

Season 3 definitely has a very similar vibe to Season 1 so far. I actually was ok with Season 2 but it doesn't seem to fit when comparing the other two.

I have not seen the new season yet but I am watching The Ted Bundy Tapes and drowning in bourbon.

Don’t get any..... ideas, now.

Going with Woodford Reserve tonight. Got a bottle of Blantons this week but didnt want to crack it tonight. Was afraid I would fall asleep midway through the glass. Been a long week lol
Watching the Pistons, for some reason

Watching the Pistons? Egad. Get a life my friend.
As for the drinking...Sazerac straight from the bottle. Like my idol Jim Brockmire.

TD3 = MWTV

True Detective has rebounded in season 3. Another good show is “You” on Netflix...think “Dexter” meets “You’ve Got Mail.”

My wife started watching this so I watched it with her, was not disappointed. I was surprised how well it was done. I shouldnt have been though, lots of good stuff on netflix.

Same here, my girl had us start on Wednesday.

You is solid and it doesn't hurt that The Becks is a smoke.

Enjoying season 3 so far. This past episode 3 wasn't as strong but I am looking forward the next Sunday already, especially to see where the 1990 storyline starts to progress. This season so far purposely has its similarities to season 1 (time is a flat circle yada yada) but it definitely has it's dialogue focusing on hints and clues rather than intuition. There's a lot of secrets floating around and I hope they start to give the audience something more by next episode. ..Very creepy with the picture of Will praying for his First Communion, btw!
I'm a big fan of Scoot (edit) McNairy, though, who plays Will and Julie's father. I know nobody else here probably watches it but he played one of the main cast members on a recently ended AMC show called Halt and Catch Fire, and was incredible in it, and so far he's been great in this season.

*Scoot. Yes he is money and was outstanding in H&CF. His wife in that show was ill.

I accidentally gulped a bottle of breast milk.

It won't kill you. How are the twins, btw?
January 25th, 2019 at 11:24 PM ^
Fantastic. They're both already preparing for their future football/cheerleading careers at Michigan. Unfortunately Mrs Dr Brutus has had some complications that have made things, uh, complicated. Bad infection that has been a major pain in the ass. But thankfully things seem to be on the mend finally.

Hoping things continue to progress for your family including your wife. Busy times for you guys! I’m sure your wife’s situation has complicated things a bit but all the best!
I remember those first few months of our twin grandsons. Several years later our daughter had our 3rd grandson. A few weeks in I asked her in a quieter moment how things were going. She laughed and said, “Just great Dad. Having just one is easy.” ?

blessings to you and the mrs., and of course the twins.

Redbreast Irish whiskey and yes I have been watching. Mahershala Ali is excellent. Big step up from s2 so far.

true dick season 3 is great so far. the haunting way the first season tied together the supernatural and madness, this season is tying together obsession and memory (and memory loss). ali is amazing, stephen dorff is excellent (?), good narrative structure, too.
i don't drink but i'm puffing on a cannabis strain called Now & Later on my Grav Labs bong. cheers.

I still like Season 1 best, but I’ve enjoyed this story (a big enough fan of Ferrell and Vaughn to have enjoyed S2).
Some of the answers/clues have to be in Wayne’s wife’s book?
January 26th, 2019 at 12:04 AM ^
The only reason that season two disappoints initially is because most people believed it was a continuation. I presume that if anyone takes the time to rewatch it, if they were a little incensed by its approach. The second time around would probably prove to be a better experience knowing that season one has absolutely nothing, to do with season two. My two cents of course. I love the series though.

Actually decided to catch up on Gordon Ramsey's new show last night.
On Thursday, I finished my binge of "The Crown". I am stoked for Seasons 3 & 4 now.
January 26th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
The Crown is great. Was glad to see Claire Foy winning an Emmy for it

Season 3 has been great so far. My tinfoil theory is that Elisa, the interviewer in the 2015, is Julie, the missing girl, all grown up.
January 26th, 2019 at 5:47 PM ^
Love that theory.
January 26th, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
She's too young. She was like 7 when the crimes occured which means she would be like upper 40s by 2015.
January 26th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
Yeah the theory definitely has its holes. That being said, I do think she’s involved somehow. She seems to know more than she’s letting on and is definitely trying to get Detective Wayne Hays to remember certain things.

Season 3 is strong. Close to the same quality as Season 1 IMO. I prefer the beer at Enki Brewing, but the atmosphere at Waconia is better.

I spent the morning watching the The Little Drummer Girl miniseries and drinking coffee. The show is terrific. Coffee not bad.
