OT- Tigers Twins Game 1

Submitted by MGoPietrowski on
Well, the Tigers survived their road trip, still sitting 3 back. Detroit has a solid shot at picking up a game or two over the next week, starting with a very winnable series at home against the Twins tonight.

I'll be happy with hanging on to 3 back heading into the All Star Break. Then we hit the stretch, and the Motor City engines roar.

Fister strikes out the side on 13 pitches to start the game. I like it certainly. Span,  Revere and Mauer are not slouches at the plate either, so thus far, this bodes  well.

The Tigers  were 18-18 on May 15th.

They were 19-20 on May 19th (lost to Pirates).

They were 23-24 on May 27th (lost to Twins).

They were 33-34 on June 19th (lost  to Cardinals).

They were 34-35 on June 21st (lost  to  Cardinals).

They were 36-37 on June 27th (lost to Rangers).

Hopefully, sixth time is a charm. It seems to me that getting to .500 would provide a bit of a boost for this team. I  keep reminding myself that were were not that much above .500 going into the second half of July last year, then they caught fire. There is still time yet, I think.

Is that you? Oh yeah, plenty of time. We will have home field locked up too. If we wait until the last week of the season I am good. Charge hard in September! Why is Jim Leyland still working? Is he on the Detroit City Council? A ton of decent resources and we are at the bottom of the AL. I wish my company gave me great resources and said feel free to be at the bottom of the pack all year. It would be even better if I had fans that cheered for me while I was sucking. I would go crazy if the same fans made a shit load of excuses for me. Oh, and I made millions while doing so. I know LSA wasn't saying anything about Jim, but I got sidetracked.

Fister's command has disappeared, leaves hangers up in the zone and even the Twins can catch up to those. Mental block getting to .500 right now. By the way anytime Jim wants to move Delmon out of the 5 spot is fine by me.

Though the Tigers trail 6-3 in the 5th right now, Cabrera is right now on the kind of hitting tear that can sometimes help carry a team for a while. Just hit a 2-run double, has all 3 RBI's on the night for Detroit

Two on, two out, down two in the seventh with the later end of the lineup coming up.  This is our chance.

Leyland pinch hitting Boesch for Raburn.  Man this would be a huge base hit from BB...

Now, Gardenhire brings in the lefty. I'd be nice if Boesch can somehow get on and get Peralta to the dish.

We take 3 of 4 from Tampa (with Verlander crapping the bed, no less). And now we come home with a golden opportunity to get over .500 this week, and we turn around and get pounded by the freaking Twins. *shakes head*

Oh, and the Little Caesars commercial people need to be beaten senseless with boat paddles.

Having Delmon continually bat 5th is one of them, along with putting Raburn 6, and not moving up Jhonny and Avila. His player loyalty can be ridiculous.

He has an infatuation with using every last guy on his bench, and then seems to have tohe worlds largest doghouse for pitchers that piss him off. Where was Below tonight? How come he hasn't gotten more of a crack at the 5th spot?

Boesch deserves to be on the next bus to Toledo. Cannot keep running him out there, it's sad that I'd rather see Raburn everyday in the OF at this point. Can't make a trade until they show they can get a few games over .500, this team is stuck in neutral.

Scherzer with a hamstring problem, won't make his start tomorrow, Below will get the nod against Blackburn. Dirks being reevaluated on Friday, rumors from some of the beat writers is that he could be out til August.

Worth and Marte sent down, Ortega and Darrin Downs called up to solidify tired bullpen. Good lord, this is unfreakingreal. Weak farm system has finally caught up to this team, aside from some arms in Triple A, they have nothing valuable to call up. No Castellanos and Brantly aren't playing in the show this year.

Hope this makes up for the health we had last year and we dont turn into Angry Detroit Tiger non Superstar hating god. Heaven forbid something actually happens to cabby, jv or fielder.
Didn't see the part about Below, so ignore that above.

Oh I don't disagree that Leyland deserves some blame. I claimed earlier in the thread that I have no idea why Delmon is still batting 5th, he's been abysmal. I just think that there are plenty of people in this town that don't realize how top heavy this team is in terms of talent, and that's on Dombrowski.

What does Dave do in the off-season, he picks up Delmon's option at 5 mil instead of giving a contract for the same price for a 2nd baseman like Aaron Hill or Kelly Johnson. I mean if you look at this roster, where would we be without guys like Berry, Dirks, and to an extent Smyly. If none of those 3 do a damn thing than this team is in an even bigger hole.

I just don't understand all the hate being put on the skipper, when he really doesn't have a whole lot to work with.
