OT: Tigers Aug 10

A little late with this thread but it doesn't look like the Tigers will win. 1st inning - 2 on = nothing 2nd inning - Maggs lead off double = nothing If the Tigers win I will mail the first 3 posters $5.

I'm in. EDIT: Just to make sure... I don't owe you $5 if they lose do I? Because if so, I need to scramble to figure out how to delete a post.

All bets are off when we play on national television. Boston's 6 game losing streak, Penny's ERA, Jackson pitching; doesn't matter, we will find a way to embarrass ourselves on national television.

They're only down by one now. If the bullpen doesn't implode, and the offense can go beyond its quota of 3 runs/EJ start, we have a chance to win. We'll see. Poll: Are you watching on FSN or ESPN, assuming you have a choice? UPDATE: I guess I jinxed them, because Bay hit a homer off of Ni while I was typing. 5-3 Sox.

The White Sox picked up Alex Rios through waivers today. He's a decent outfielder and a decent bat. I kind of wonder where he's going to play since you've got Dye in right and Quentin in left. Rios is a RF by trade. Maybe center? Making this decision a little more puzzling is the fact that Rios signed a severely backloaded contract in April of '08 (7 years, $69.8 million) and is owed nearly $60 million over the last 5 years of the deal (roughly $12/year). So, yeah.

Rios will play center starting in 2010. It's sounding likely that that Sox will keep Dye next year. Rios played a significant amount of center last year and under both Dewan's Plus/Minus system and UZR from Fangraphs he was a very good defensive center fielder, well above average. This year he'll spell everyone in the outfield. Quentin's got a knee problem right now in addition to his plantar fascitis. He can replace Pods against tough lefties. And he'll be the late-inning defensive replacement in center (as Wise was) in games he doesn't start. An expensive backup, but you run that risk when you claim someone off of waivers.

nil? If they score that run to tie he would possibly bat in the 9th and definitely in the 10th. Better fielder? What play has Mags messed up on in the field that Clete would have got. You just suggested that Leyland subbed for defense when he was losing 6-5 in the 8th. If that is the truth he is dumber than I previously thought.

2nd and 3rd, one out = death for tigers. I think we can say that this game is done. I don't think the Tigers have done anything against Papps since Pudge won the game in extra innings a few years ago. Go Luke French! Beat them sucks (sox)

I can slightly understand not pinch hitting for him, only because he is usually one of the better tigers at putting the ball in play, and that's all that was needed there. But if it were me, I probably would've let Laird swing and pinch hit for Everett. There's also the problem that the guy I would want pinch hitting is Clete, but he had just been put in the game. Oh well, long season.
