Fister is a pitch to contact guy that doesn't miss a whole lot of bats. His success this season is a reflection of the Mariners defense and Safeco effect. This is also only his second start since coming off the DL. This is a good game for the Tigers to win going into the weekend. The next two games are a lot more winnable than Sunday when they will face Cliff Lee who has been arguably the best pitcher in baseball even though he missed the first month.
4-1 now. Tigers are hitting Fister and the ball is missing gloves. Woo!
Go Tigers. Whenever I hear the name Don Kelly, it reminds me of "The Godfather", even though I'm fairly certain Kelly isn't Sicilian
Doug Fister reminds me of the jolly green giant. That guy is some kind of tall.
woot, 5-1 tigers. the manboeschpig hits a single, damon scores, milton bradley error places him and maggs on 2nd and 3rd. fister gets yanked.
Someone needs to tell Chad Cordero that his eyelids are not supposed to touch the brim of his hat. And bend that damn brim, too.
Okay, I gotta second-guess Leyland here. 7-1, top 9. This is the perfect time to get Schlereth's feet wet in a low-stress situation. Instead he goes and gets another lefty in Phil Coke.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure when he pitched last in Toledo though maybe it was yesterday or the day before. Hard to say.
Piss-poor baserunning by Figgins there to get doubled off of first, especially with Ichiro on 2nd, and when you're down by 6 runs, no less. .
I would disagree. If Figgins is just waiting around on the bases, he isn't going to score. Seattle needed runs in the 9th. Sometimes you need to roll the dice.
1 out is 100X more important than 1 run. Bad base-running.
I'm with this. The big inning calls for conservative baserunning. If they were down by 2 or even 3, you go for it. Down by 6, your run isn't so important to risk the out. Should've been 2/3 of the way to second and stopped there.
Still, it took two really terrific throws to get him. Boesch and Santiago both, helluva job.
Tigers win 7-1. They are now 5 games above .500.
42-36 now, 1/2 game back of Minny at the moment, could be even if TB can down the Twinkies.
Yup. All around awful math skills from me.
With his speed, he shouldn't have been any further than 3/4 of the way to 2B, with Ichiro on 2nd. If that ball drops, he's got enough wheels to do no worse than make it a play at the plate.
Whoa, I completely missed that. And apparently so did everyone else.
Yeah, you screwed up the date (7/1) but you nailed the score (7/1)!
This is why I like Rod Allen: he does things all the time like he did tonight. "If Coke wants to finish it here, he'll throw a changeup like he just threw a couple pitches ago." Changeup, strike three, end of game. The man is a total goofball but he's got one of the best baseball minds there is.
Yeah, aside from his Rodisms, he's pretty good
