That's Luke reaching out to touch R2D2....
October 20th, 2015 at 9:52 AM ^
logical your conclusion is....but defies logic life can........
Anakin lost the same hand didn't he. Perhaps its a flashback. The logic is that its Luke but they don't show, nor have any of the previews shown Luke's face and he doesn't appear on the official poster. Han Solo is clearly going to be the primary link to the original trilogy for this movie. Maybe we don't see Luke until the next movie.
I don't know why but I have this gut feeling that Han Solo might get killed in this movie.

I like the prequels. Episode 3 is my favorite. I'm 33 before you ask.

Your opinion is wrong, but I upvoted you for the "I'm 33 before you ask," which was worth a chuckle.

Almost totally agreed...but Star Wars 12? Really?
October 20th, 2015 at 9:21 AM ^
There will be lots of screen flares, for sure.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:20 AM ^
lens flare*
Also, I have a feeling there won't be much in this movie. I don't mind the lens flare.

WAIT, this is Episode 12???? So are they going to go back and do 5 "mid-quels"?

Looks so good. I have so many questions though

A good trailer does enough to get you hyped for a movie without revelaing to much of the story. This was a GREAT trailer

Where's Luke Skywalker though? Not on the poster, not in the trailer? What gives?
October 19th, 2015 at 10:54 PM ^
Luke went in hiding to keep his steamy relationship with Jar Jar Binks hidden from everyone..

I'm also nervous after how bad the last 3 were, and I can't stand JJ Abrams, but this looks awesome.

I didn't care for either Star Trek, and I hated Lost...but I've also always been biased toward Star Wars.
I just thought they tried to make Star Trek too funny; sure hope they don't do that to this film. It doesn't look like that's the case though.

They can say all they want that they are going for practical effects but the X-Wing and Tie fighter fights that they showed in the trailer look like just regular CGI-fests no different from the ones in the prequels.
October 20th, 2015 at 9:44 AM ^
They never said no CGI, just that they were trying to only use it when it makes sense. Space scenes lend themselves to CGI. Characters and dialog don't. I think most, if not all the characters and creatures will be actual actors in suits or puppets.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:42 AM ^
Most of thecharacters in the prequel trilogy weren't people in suits or puppets either. What really hurt those movies is that the action scenes were boring CGI light shows that had more in common with an anime cartoon than the original trilogy, dragged on endlessly, and didn't advance the plot.
Basically what it sounds like is that they are just using humans and shooting scenes on locaction and with real sets. So no more volcanic planets or Jar Jar. Nice change, I guess, but not very significant. The action scenes are where the difference between CGI and practical effects stands out the most. If the action scenes are all a bunch of incomprehensible, computerized, hyperedited crap blowing up loudly in your face then they won't be an improvement over the prequels.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:25 AM ^
Well, what the hell do you expect? LOL
Those kinds of aircrafts don't exist, nor can they build some that actually fly. Of course they're CGI.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:45 AM ^
They didn't use CGI in the original movies. They built models to scale and then used some excellent camera work and pyrotechnics to make it look awesome. That's why the Death Sar battle scene in the original movie still holds up as one of the greatest action scenes ever filmed while the CGI light shows of the prequels were completely forgettable. Using practical effects takes a lot of hard work and the action scenes are where it is most important. It also requires a ton of competence on the part of the crew understanding stuff like lighting to make it look realistic. CGI is, more than anything, a lazy way out. It doesn't even save money, as evidenced by the bloated budgets of today's movies (which dwarf sci-fi films of yesteryear even when adjusted for inflation).
October 20th, 2015 at 12:09 PM ^
Yeah - and look how bad the space battle fights look compared to today. It's blatantly obvious that those are models in episode four and they look terribly fake. I agree that using practical effects is great (most of the time and when done well, like JJ did in this movie), but they have to use CGI to make these giant battles, especially when there are aircrafts (ones that don't exist in real life) involved.
