OT: Soccer Sunday/Monday Open Thread

Submitted by itsbigcat on

Two quick notes: Posting this tonight as we just got back from celebrating the wife's birthday with drinks and friends, and while I didn't exactly hit it hard, I'd rather get it up for tomorrow morning than set my alarm for 7 am central to get it posted before the first FA Cup Game.

Also, the nascar exhibition race got rained out tonight and is now listed as being on at 11:30am EST on FS1, the exact time that the Manchester United match should be hitting it's 30th minute, orginally scheduled or FS1. This causes conflicting emotions in me as I am both a Manchester United and a Nascar fan. If this is the case, I think the MU match will move to FS2, or even to FoxSportsGo. This is why there is a question mark by that television station signature. EDIT: Just found on Twitter that the United/Blackburn match up is on Fox Soccer Plus.

Finally, I've included the Monday FA CUP match featuring Arsenal in this thread. I don't want to go too hard in the paint and post a new thread every day, especially for one game, and be like a new roomate that just moved in and suddenly has his shit everywhere. Please utilize this thread for both Sunday and Monday FA CUP matches.

Notes

*Games Featuring major clubs are in bold.

*The FA Cup is win or go home. Single leg, featuring one round of replays following a draw.

*If you don’t see a league or team listed that you want to follow and discuss, let me know and I’ll add it (within reason). I’m not going out of my way to make sure Scunthorpe or Drogheda United are covered here.

Enjoy, cheers, and Go Blue!

MLS, which is very fun if admittedly not always good, is in the preseason. I've watched a couple of the games (watched the first ever Antlanta United game which was pretty fun, watched my Red Bulls beat NYCFC), but I wouldn't subject anyone else to that.

and get it on right away, too. But when completely sober and faced with the choice of either/or (if both is NOT an option), morning time is the better option.

I watched the reply this AM of Hertha-Bayern.  HEY LOOK LADS, I FOUND JOHN BROOKS!!!  Or I should say John MF Brooks.  He was fraking spectacular.  Everywhere on D.  Every(*) ball into the box Bayern sent in, Brooks had a head or foot on it.

Where is THAT John Brooks when the USMNT plays Los Tri or CRC?

(*)  Of course no one from Hertha got a foot in front of the extra-extra-time free kick.  That was out of time.  Are the Bundesliga refs on Bayern's payroll?

First it was interesting that the referee decided to add five extra minutes when they had no major delays, penalties, or other stoppages.  Second, while the 5 minutes is a minimum it's not exactly standard to let it go quite that long.  I wish we could hear what was going on in the center referee's mind that made him extend it until Bayern had the equalizer.  Tough break, but a fantastic defensive game by Hatha, they played it as well as they possibly could.

I have no qualms adding Germany, France and MLS to the list of games. Just wanted to make sure there was enough interest. Starting with Tuesday's champions league thread, I'll add them in.

Yay! A thread about sports on a sports blog. The change is refreshing. Looking forward to watching some of Aresnals youth try making a name for themselves at 2.
