OT: Shooting At Canadian Parliament Building

Submitted by bluestaffah on

As you may have already heard, there has been several shootings at and/or near the Parliament building in Ottawa, Ontario. We all know that there are Canadians who support the Maize and Blue, so I think that it is only fair that we support them during a time of tragedy and chaos.

A soldier was shot and hopefully will remain alive.

I really hope that all our Canadian friends and their families are safe and not involved in this situation in any way.

Neg away, delete if you want, but I think a Capital being attacked, no matter how small is important news.

Can we all agree that we will just post threads (with descriptive titles, not this bullshit) or don't post them, and not be all defensive about why we posted them?

Has been nonstop on air since just after the first shooting (there have been shots fired in three locations, including at the Parliament center block) Is clearly not his smooth, unflappable self. This clearly has him rattled.

'Fog of war' type caveats apply, but from what I can tell from reports, it seems there have been several shootings at about the same time throughout Ottowa.  The war memorial, in the Parliment building, I saw a headline that there was one possibly at a shopping mall, another at another building near Parliment....Not sure what is really happening, that will take time to be figured out and reported, but it doesn't look good at this point.

This was a recent Québécois convert to Islam of less than one year who had become, in the words of his family "radicalized" and was apparently known to CSIS and the RCMP. Seems he was interviewed by the RCMP recently but no chargeable offences at the time. This individual was killed by the Surete du Quebec after his cowardly attack.

The War Memorial, inside the Parliament building and at the Rideau Centre.

War Memorial - soldier was shot

Parliament building - I believe one shooter was shot

Rideau Centre - not sure what happened there

Disclaimer: I am not on the scene. I am getting information through various media outlets as it arrives.

I just found out about this via email from my girlfriend who is in Ottawa for a weeklong conference.  Apparently they are in lockdown a couple blocks from the Parliment building.

There was a Canadian soldier killed in a hit and run outside a Canadian Forces recruiting center in Quebec. The 25 year-old who was arrested had been on a security watch list and had tried to leave the country in July.

With the attacks coming back-to-back, I'm sure RCMP and JTF2 are trying to find out if they are in any way connected.

I can't claim to know every violent crime that has gone on in Canada, but this worries me somewhat since Canada has seemed a rather peaceful place separated from terrorist-like attacks.

I'm a cop in Ontario and ISIS or ISIL recently released something telling their followers to unleash on law enforcement and military in Canada, Australia and the United States..... If this is in fact related that's two attacks in Canada and one in Australia in a few weeks. I suspect there are more to come.

Malala Yousafzi(sp), the teen who stood up to the Taliban, was supposed to meet the Canadian PM to receive honorary citizenship today. Was it possibly connected? FTR, I read this on CNN's live blog of the event.

The scum can try and scare us, but will not break us.

Completely crazy. Just outside of Montreal one of them runs down two off-duty soldiers in a car.

Today, this.

We are big on religious tolerance, but I live not too far from a notorious mosque which produces some pretty high-profile terrorists. Don't mind seeing it shut down at this point.

Thanks for the thoughts, and rest in peace Corporal Cirillo.

Hamilton is my hometown.  There's a lot of community and pride in that city, and I know that they will come together to support the family.

It's just so awful.. this type of thing doesn't happen in Canada.

May this punk rot in the worst hell imaginable.
