OT: Redwings win thriller in last minute

Submitted by littlebrownjug on

Zetterberg and Filpula each had 3 points, and Helm scored a beauty with 1 minute left. Detroit went down a man with 30 seconds to go, and Joey MacDonald made a few beautiful saves. Brendan Smith made a great assist on the game-tying goal, and, fellow rookie, Gustav Nyquist, assisted on the game winner. Both of these new guys look like they will be really good players.

Filpula is playing out of his mind right now, as is Big Z. I cannot wait to get St. Nick and Pavel back.

I am not sure on Fil contract status. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him be the next Wing to sign a long term deal. It may not be a 7-9 year deal but I could see a 4-5 year deal.

Doubtful... he'll stay with the Wings but he won't get a long term deal.  Not until he proves himself.  Babcock has been on this kid for years about not living up to his potential.  A few good weeks by him isn't going to make that go away overnight.  He'll get a 3 year deal tops.

I am not sure I agree. Detroit shows more patience with young talent than other teams do. They seem to like players to develop at their pace rather than forcing them to be the type of player they want them to be. I want Val to stay but you never know with athletes.

In the short time Smith has been playing with the Wings, Smith has impressed me more than Ericson has at any point this season. Smith plays the puck smart and has a great eye for offensive situations, Ericson plays stupid a lot. Like trying to start a fight at mid ice while allowing a 2 on none for his goalie. To be honest I hate that Ericson signed that deal last spring/summer.

Ugh, seeing all these threads about the Wings reminds me that I really need to get a slingbox for my parents TV back in Michigan. Does anyone have any experience with them? are they worth it? Will it work at my permanent TV solution?
