OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/17: Seesaw

Submitted by AmaizeingBlue on

Yesterday was another frustrating day against the Buckeyes. We lost Umass, Syracuse, and Army despite being favored in all three locations. The last few days have consisted of swapping territories in the northeast with OSU. We need to continue to press forward until we recapture our new home and push the Buckeyes back.

We urge you all to continue to participate in the game. Your daily votes do help tremendously.

Please go to michigancfbrisk.com and click on "Get Order!" to get your instruction for the day!

Hey guys, just an announcement. Please don't attack Temple or any Clemson territories today. We have agreed to a non-agression pact with them today, so we can focus all of our efforts on OSU.

Below are a few messages about recent updates with the game and instructions to join and play if you are new.

The creators of the game recently increased the aggressiveness of their bot detection to prevent the use of bots/alternate accounts. If you have created a brand new reddit account to participate in this game, then we need you to check the game page to ensure you don't see the message in below. If you see this, you are being flagged as a bot and your moves are not counting. Please DM reddit.com/u/bakonydraco to get the situation sorted out.

So follow the instructions and contact the r/CFBRisk mods if that happens. Also, the CFBRisk mods have indicated that they may start marking accounts as bots if they aren't "users on R/CFB". So we ask that in order to keep yourself eligible that when you go to vote everyday: just take a look at the CFB subreddit and make a post or two. There should be always something on the front page Michigan-related that you can drop a quick take on.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Additionally, we have formed "The Blue Alliance" with Florida, Georgia Tech and Texas. If you would like to meme about this, go to: www.reddit.com/r/CFBRisk/

Go Blue!

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

curious.  Is this going to be like a year around, all the time thing?  Asking for a friend.

No a team won't - The game is flawed in the sense that large teams will never be able to be fully beat down.  Right now it is a back and forth with OSU, no team losing members.

If you had 100 members and had to attack 50 states, even though I only have 20 members, it's near impossible for you to attack while defending all of those states.  I could simply focus my energy on 2 states at a time and you will be spread too thin to counter.

Extreme example, but you get the point.

To be fair, the teams that lost are the ones with fewer users and those with larger numbers really may reach a sort of pseudo-stalemate. To be even more fair, the creators of the game also specified that there will be new things (rules/mechanisms) toward the end of the game. I assume these will facilitate a winner.

Once I get to the reddit page for authentication for an hour, I click Accept, and then it goes to just a blank page with nothing loading. Anyone else have that issue? It's done the same on my phone and computer. I want to contribute to the effort!

joined, but when I go for today's attack/defend plans - It tells me I need to make a move first...

What are today's Instructions?

Yeah, we had OSU people try to use the site to determine what our strategy is for a given day.  They're obsessed with it for whatever reason, so we just like to verify that you've played a turn for Michigan and not any other teams before you get an assignment from the website.

you are jonesing for Draftageddon - you might need that bullet.  But the daily posts of Reddit CFB Risk certainly can be fairly blamed for some level of insanity.

If you want your sanity back, try the logical post where Shea Patterson, who has yet to throw a pass for the good guys, is the 3rd favorite to win the Heisman.
