OT: Red Wings vs Hawks Game 6 Open Thread
Hoist one for the fallen.
Elimination game #2. The Hawks squirmed out a bit from under the Wings' boot, but the Wings can still eliminate them with a win at the Joe, which will be rockin'. Don't really want to go back to Chicago for game 7, so they need to bring more energy. And stay out of the damn box!
TV: 8 PM ET, CBC, NCBS
Let's Go Red Wings!
FINISH THEM!
The third period of this game has been like an episode of The Twilight Zone. Babcock better be grilling these players for the next 2 days.
GOAL BRUNNER!!!
Brunner.
Very frustrating lack of focus and effort in the 3rd. I know our defensemen blow, but Datsuk and Zetterberg were awful in that period.
Was it over when the German's bombed pearl harbor????
Was it over when the German's bombed pearl harbor????
hahahaha perfectly timed
It was 2-1, thought Wings were comfortable, can't blow that at the Joe, right.
To my surprise, came back and it was 4-2. Not pleased. Not pleased at all.
Just hope that they can win Game 7 but the Blackhawks slumber is over. They're up and they're pissed now.
What are thoughts on Howard...because I've never liked him as goaltender. How much of this is on him
Not much is on Howard. Smith left him out to dry a couple of times.
Alright. Never was too enthusiastic about Howard.
4-3 now. Come on
Have you not been watching this series? Howard held them to 1 goal in games 2 & 3 and shut them out in game 4. Chicago hadn't lost three in a row all season. Howard's been pretty damn good.
Howard is the reason we are even talking about game 7. He's playing with a non playoff caliber defense in front of him. He's been phenomenal in this series. I hope the rest of the team comes to play a full sixty minutes on Wednesday.
hasn't sung yet...
That last second goal gives me a little hope for game 7. I can see it going either way now.
This series is over. I hope that brief period of excitement was fun for you, Red Wings fans.
Actually the series is tied at 3-3. Just FYI.
I've been on the road listening on the radio until late in the 3rd. But I knew this thread would be very entertaining!
Well congrats for trolling Red Wing/Michigan fans? Good for you?
Good to see you're ok. Did any fellow blackhawk fans die in the hole you guys crawled into after game 4?
Wait... So you tell us you hope we enjoyed our "brief period" of excitement when you root for an Original Six team with as many Cups in its history as the Wings have in the last 15 years?
Hopefully they can win a Game 7 but all the momentum is on Chicago's side now. They had this series by the throat and lost Game 5. That was the turning point
Good luck in game 7
Uh - things were looking pretty good at the second intermission. The Wings just failed in that 3rd period.
I remember during the Vancouver series they were up 3-1 on Chicago, and that went 7 games. Vancouver eventually won.
Anything can happen in a Game 7, and hopefully Detroit comes out strong. They were up 2-1 in the 2nd before I had to take care of some business. :( They did play well other than that 3rd.
Score the first goal in Game 7 and this "momentum" thing will be worth zero.
Sigh. Well, anything can happen in game 7. I'm hopeful, but I don't feel too good about the Wings' chances.
WTF?! I've shown up for every game! But this was a great chance to win the series, and they couldn't pull it off.
That creaking sound you hear is the bandwagon struggling to hold all of the weight as everyone leaps back on the bandwagon
Because there were so many Hawks fans on these threads after games 2-5...
Because there is so much for us to say to Wings fans while they are completely outplaying us
I think it's probably the right call to not post when your team was getting worked the way the Hawks were after game 4, but to your point of "I don't even see any Hawks fans talking garbage" I mean look up, it's already happened lol........were you here in game 1 when every Hawks fan said the series was over, and that the Wings didn't even belong on the same ice.
LOL...It was pretty silent from Hawks fans after game 4.
Funny how Hawks fans come out of the woodwork after you make the playoffs after finishing in last place for like 10 straight reasons.
I guess that is the strategy to do well in the new NHL. Tank a few straight seasons and get a team full #1 picks like Hawks, Pens, and Islanders.
as well for Edmonton
6 seasons? 10 seasons?
Come back to me when you reach 20 straight playoffs. \
Hawks = bandwagon
Once old man Wirtz died and his son took over, things got better for the team in a big hurry. Very high draft picks were well spent, and the team developed its young players. Because there wasn't a several year lag between Rocky Wirtz taking over and the 2009 Western Conference Finals run, it was hard to distinguish between the normal bandwagon fans (and c'mon, as Michigan fans we have plenty of those under our tent) and those who were more like Michigan basketball fans who were alienated by the dark post-sanction years and are now fully back. Imagine how hard it would have been to be an out-of-state Michigan bball fan if one of the sanctions was no televised games!
So I know there is lots of vitriol right now for Blackhawks fans, and those of you who grew up in Michigan but live in Illinois are probably frustrated, but the fan base isn't as horribly bandwagon-y as it seems.
(And I realize that posting this in an open thread featuring some very unhappy wings fans is inviting a response)
