OT- Pistons, Transion near complete

Submitted by R_mahorn1974 on
Pistons starters are expected to be Stuck, RIP, Tay, Villanueva, and Kwame/Cox. Ben Bordon being the reserve getting 30ish minutes a game. We have room to sign atleast one-two more players, might be Big Ben. I'd like it, if he can stay healthy. Big Ben and Maxiell grabing boards and getting hustle points off the bench is a big bonus. What does everyone think of the new renovated Pistons? If we are a subpar team by january, I think Joe D will make a trade and pick up an expiring contract like we did with Sheed in 2004. I believe this is a solid team, but can we keep up with Cavs/Magic/Celtics in the East?

Dude. Are you Charlie Kelly? Piston ball well. Team hot? Yes. Piston win transion game, taxes? They'll be lower, son. Trade is thing to do Joe D if team good or bad, so do.

made some comments not too long ago about the possibility of him playing point. He did so a little bit in college. It was an interesting idea - it would mean significant differences in potential lineups.

The big men really aren't very good and will get torn up by the real bigs in the east (I.E. Superman, Shaq if he can get back in his prime et al). I really hope that we don't transition to the suns run and gun offense. I liked the old "bad boys" work-a-holic attitude. But then again the same thing could be said of Michigan with our transition going from 3 yards and a cloud of dust to the RR spread. Something change can be a good thing and other times huge change hinders progress.

has surprised a lot of people with their strong plays in summer league. I know that it's summer league but you have to be encouraged by their performance especially Austin Daye who had received a lot of flack. It appears that Daye will play the 3/4 position while Summer is the same. Jerebko will play at the 4/5.

I have a feeling that this team will be a lot better than what they look on paper. For the first time in a few years the Pistons have some players that have raw talent with a lot of athletic ability. These new guys are stone-cold heartless when it comes to scoring. I'll take 5 athletes any day over 5 basketball players. Ben Gordon is the perfect compliment to an already stellar RIP. This will take some pressure off RIP, as now it won't be required of him to carry the scoring load. He will get back to dropping his 20 ppg in a more efficiently. Tayshaun needs to be more consistent. However, he is an Olympian. Which means he is thought of in high regards throughout the NBA, he will remain a Piston. He has a lot to offer, but with Daye and Summers in the ranks now Tay will have to step it up over the next season or two. I am not sold on Kwame as a starter, but I believe that the combination of him and Wilcox will be very athletic and has the potential to be very productive if they are able maintain their prior production efforts over increased minutes. Stuckey is a beast and will be star if he ever learns how to shoot the basketball. No one can guard him off the dribble and he has that rare ability for a small guy (NBA Standards) to finish in the paint. The best thing about this team is they are young, hungry, and very skilled!!! I think Tay will be more hungry this year with new additions. Sheed could of brought down Tays play the last 2 years. THIS YEAR WE FINALLY GOT INSIDE/OUTSIDE SHOOTERS!!!! Gordon is a better 3point shooter than Reggie Miller! Villanueva is a shooter. RIP is a shooter inside 3 point. Tay can knock down the 3 ball. Stucky is inside 3 point shooter. Austin Daye is a 3 point shooter I believe. Last year we were were horrible on the 3 ball.

It actually does sound like a contender. RIP is one of the top SG in the league. Stuckey is improving. We now got a younger version sheed (Villanueva). Tay will be more hungry. DOn't forget Ben Gordon. Our centers will be weak, but we got a strong back court.

All of this positive talk sounds too defensive, like yall are searching for signs that these players may all have career years. RIP was effective on the Pistons title team because his teammates played much tougher than he did at both sides of the court. Let me try to list some shooting guards that are better than one of the league's "top" SGs: Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Danny Granger, Kevin Durant, Kevin Martin, Brandon Roy, Joe Johnson, Carson Butler, Ray Allen and Vince Carter... not too difficult to do. I'm not trying to be negative. This just has to be viewed as a rebuilding year.

I agreed with everything you said right up to your list. Most of those guys aren't really shooting guards. Perimeter players, sure, but not really SGs I'm pretty sure that Carson Butler played high school basketball, but I'd still take Hamilton over him (although Caron Butler is a different story, although again, not really a pure SG).

Still in need of a third point guard. The summer league auditioned Andre Owens and Sean Singletary, and it would make me unbelievably, ridiculously, absurdly, bounce-off-the-walls happy if Singletary went to camp and made the roster. Objectively I do think he outplayed Owens.

i see us mabye being slightly over .500 and getting the 6 or 7 seed before getting steamrolled in 5 games by one of the east's big three ... this is as optimistic as i can be and i love the pistons

We will be way better than last season I can tell you that. With this new team, we now have a full offseason to work out the kinks. Stuckey will be ready to take over the team, unlike last year where he woke up one day and was surprized. RIP and Tay will be leading this team in bad times. No more sheed to ruin things. Although, Sheed was one of my favorites. I'm gonna miss sheed.

Have fun dealing with Ben Gordan coming off the bench. He refused to do it in Chicago and once the honey moon is over he will start crying again. As a Bulls fan I am glad he is gone. He worthless on D and can't dribble or crate for others to save his life. He's also 6'2" if he's lucky. The Pistons also have two of the biggest young busts in the NBA. I see this team as a 7 or 8 seed.. Maybe not even making it in.

Besides last year? He has 204 career starts! PG? You don't want him at the PG. He is a TO machine as a PG. His handles are not that great. He great is spurts and is a great bench player. The problem is that he doesn't see himself like that. He refused Chi 50 mil contract two years ago because he wanted "A.I" money. I am glad he is gone but he may work out for you guys. I just wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

but this is a team that is in the middle of construction. A little like our Wolverine football team last year. The Pistons will have zero interior defense when Maxiell is out. Villenueva is 6'10" and I would love to see him play center if he could handle the defensive side of things. From what I have heard from people who have followed him in the league, he can't. Our best starting five are Gordon, Stuckey, Rip, Tayshaun and Maxiell/Villeneuva. Maxiell for defense and Villaneuva for offense, but Maxiell is too small to play center and Kwame sucks. I think if you look at this roster even with the most rose colored glasses it becomes obvious they need to make another trade to get Rip or Tayshaun out of here for a defensive interior player taller than 6'6". I don't think Dumars is anywhere close to being done. He may not have the opportunity to make a big trade this year, but he will by next summer and then maybe the Pistons can start to be good again. Have you been following all the trades this year. Cleveland, Orlando and Boston have all gotten better. Atlanta and Chicago are young and improving. Pistons are at best a six seed and might not make the playoffs. In Dumars I trust, it just might take a year or two more to see a good team out there.

As unpopular as this may sound, Kwame is actually has all the tools and looked very capable at times last year when he played significant minutes. If you watch him move around the court, you can tell the type of athleticism he has that helped garner the 1st overall pick. Unfortunate for him, he has not lived up to his potential. However, he has showed flashes of being able to be productive. Personally, I think the Shaq thing will be an interesting one to watch. I want to see how LBJ does with The Diesel clogging up the lane. Shaq doesn't brin the outside dimension that Z brings to the table, so it will be a new look for the Cavs. Boston just may be the best team in league, pending Lamar Odoms decision. Sheed definetly helps that team with his ability to shoot the 3 and defensively they will be a nightmare with Sheed & KG down low. The Magic have not gotten better. The have lost 3 of 5 playoff startes this offseason. I don't care what sport you play or at what level, but if you lose 60% of your starting line up it is hard to match your previous success(unless, you are the Celtics picking up the Big '3'). The Eastern Conference will be tough, but very winnable by any of the top 4 or 5 teams (which, I believe the Pistons will be a part of).
