It’s now being reported it’s 6 years, 78.5mil (per Woj) guaranteed with metrics that if qualified for makes it 8 years and 100+mil. The largest contract in NBA coaching history.

I’m not sure if this moves the needle on the team but holy hell, can’t say ownership isn’t trying.

I was onboard for pretty much anyone but Ollie but thank god they pulled the trigger on Monty. Now, somehow, I’d like the Pistons to have a top 10 player in the league on the roster for the first time since Grant Hill left.

I disagree that it’s insulting. What was so incredible about that team was what they were able to accomplish together without that transcendent talent. Taking down the Lakers in 5 games (w/ Kobe, Shaq, The Mailman, and The Glove no less) was so rapturous (especially the way they did it). In the era of super teams though, I doubt they could pull it off again but it was incredibly special.

Leaders And Best

Every NBA Champion to date has had a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team except two. The 2004 Detroit Pistons and the 1979 Seattle Supersonics. The Denver Nuggets or Miami Heat will join this list as well, but I think it is a pretty good assumption that Nikola Jokic will make an NBA 100th Anniversary Team (possibly even Jimmy Butler if he has an epic Finals).

Chauncey Billups is one of the few NBA Finals MVPs to never make the Hall of Fame. The only other ones are Cedric Maxwell and Andre Iguodala.

Almost all the NBA Finals MVPs made the NBA 75th Anniversary team. The only other ones not on that team (in addition to the ones listed above) are Dennis Johnson, Joe Dumars, and Tony Parker.

That team was so fun to watch.  I loved there games against the Pacers.  Some real the radar talent.  Big Ben was amazing, and his ability to keep Shaq in check one on one was a huge win. Sheed probably had the talent to be a top 100 fringe player, but his "bad boy" antics, probably kept him from being a star player that he had the talent for.  Rip and Prince had such unique talents, that it really gave them a ton of flexibility.  Chaunce was the perfect leader to run that team, and probably an underrated defender, since he was compared to Ben, Prince, and Sheed.

I haven't watched a ton of NBA since them, but those were fun times.  Glad they took down the lakers and didn't give the Mailman his ring. (I have softened on him a little bit after watching his sit down talk with Isaah about the hit.  I love seeing the old guys remenisce).

Very good hire, didn’t think they’d get him. However at that price tag it better work out! Young core to work with, very personable coach, maybe better days ahead for the Pistons?
