Anyone else frustrated that these mistresses are always kinda... "meh" looking?  I mean, Spitzer is the only high-profile guy in recent memory who was actually chasing some FINE tail.

Scwarzenegger's girl was gnarly, Lewinsky... goooooo.  Seriously, these would be much better stories if the girls were smokeshows.  Pick up your game "guys-in-high-profile-positions-with-low-morals-and-even-lower-sexual-standards"!

You gotta think of the sexual standards of successful men in their 50s. It's been a while since they've had to work for sex, and all decent 25 yr old girls basically look the same to them. It's simply not worth it to hold out for something better, when the girl in front of you is more than acceptable by your standards.

An SEC school making an ethical decision. I am shocked. You can't really argue against the firing. How many jobs can you blatently lie to your boss and keep your job? Not to mention you are supposed to be a leader and mentor of young men. You get caught lying to your boss, and cheating on your wife. What kind of example is that for young men? If he's an NFL coach its a different story, but I would LOVE to hear a good counter arguement on why he should keep his job.

Does anybody else forsee the term "Petrino'd" becoming a euphemism for a married man getting busted cheating on his wife with somebody from the office and totally tanking his career?  Sort of like the term "Moeller'd" meant getting so wasted you couldn't function on any level?

"Hey dude...did you hear bout Cravens in Accounting?"

"Yeah I heard he got totally Petrino'd by the old lady.  She called his boss after finding out about him and Alicia in payables and they took him out that afternoon."

Follow the grease stain that is the disingenuous drifter's career path:

• In 2003, his first year as a head coach at the University of Louisville, Petrino went behind the back of his employer and his onetime boss, Tuberville, to negotiate a deal replacing him at Auburn. He held a clandestine meeting across the Ohio River from Louisville in southern Indiana with Auburn officials, two days before both the Tigers and Cardinals played their final regular-season games.

It was, by any rendering, a spectacular bit of philandering by both interested parties.

Petrino lied about having any contact with Auburn officials -- until two reporters for The (Louisville) Courier-Journal confronted him with documentation of the private plane that brought the university president and athletic director into Petrino's backyard. I was one of the two reporters. And even when faced with the evidence, Petrino resisted telling the truth until Auburn issued a statement owning up to the whole affair.

Boxed into a corner, Petrino asked forgiveness and chalked it up to the inexperience of a "young coach." Louisville forgave him because he was 9-3 and his offense blew up scoreboards.

It wouldn't be the last time Petrino toyed with the school's loyalties, or the last time he was forgiven for doing so.

• In 2004, Petrino interviewed for the Notre Dame job and had discussions with Florida and Mississippi about their jobs. Then, on Dec. 7, he pledged his loyalty to Louisville.

"I want to make it clear that I'm not interested in any other coaching jobs, and am happy at the University of Louisville," Petrino said. "… I'm very excited about our move into the Big East, the opportunity to play in a BCS bowl game and the chance to compete for a national championship. [School president] Dr. James Ramsey and Tom Jurich, through their hard work and dedication, have made this the best job in the country. As I've stated before, Louisville is the perfect place to raise a family and I plan for all four of my children to graduate from high school in Louisville."

On Dec. 21, Petrino signed an enhanced contract to stay with the Cardinals.

On Dec. 26 -- well before the Petrino children had graduated from high school -- he interviewed with LSU to replace Saban. On Jan. 1, 2005, when it became obvious that he'd lost out to Les Miles, Petrino pulled out of consideration.

On the inside, several Louisville administrators were disappointed they had to keep him. They were sick of the game -- but there was no firing a guy who just went 12-1.

Rex Brown/Getty ImagesBobby Petrino lost more games (10) in a partial NFL season than he did in four full seasons as a college head coach.

• In 2005, Petrino interviewed with the Oakland Raiders. That's after telling people for years that he had no interest in coaching the pros -- college was where he wanted to be. He ultimately turned down the job and professed his commitment to the Cardinals again.

• On July 13, 2006, Petrino signed a 10-year contract worth up to $25 million -- a staggering deal for a school of Louisville's modest football heritage and fan base. The day he signed it, Petrino vowed again that Louisville was home. He made a point of insisting that a $1 million buyout provision be put into the contract, putting his money where his dissembling mouth is.

"We did want to make a statement," the disingenuous drifter said that day about the buyout. "… I wanted to make sure everyone understood -- I know I've said it -- that this is where I want to be, where my family wants to be. But I want everyone to really believe it."

Next Steps for Bobby Petrino:

1. Call Gloria Allred, and declare that he was the victim of an aggressive pursuit by the leggy V-Ball player.

2. Email Resume to Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton of the NO Saints.

3. Show up at the NYJets camp as a "QB consultant" for Tebow and Sanchez.

4. Go on 60 minutes, tear up, and repeatedly utter "I have sinned against the Lord".

5. Join ESPN and cohost a show with Steve Phillips.

In regards to #5, Steve Phillips had an extramarital affair with what I contend to this day was a portly man.  Not sure he'll be able to relate to Petrino having his affair with an average to moderately attractive woman.

Is it...

1) don't cheat on your wife

2) don't hire the 20-something you're banging on the side

3) don't try to cover it up with a trooper's help and lie to your boss about it

or

4) don't ride a motorcycle.  like, ever.

I'll bet I could make any of 1-3 work in a pinch if I had to, but you'll never catch me on one of those deathtraps.  I guess I'm just not a risk-taker.

the cbs sportsline poll showing a plurality believe Guillen had every right to speak his mind. . . highly unusual day for peace, justice, and the American way o' life.

I am going to assume that this was not intended to help her purchase the inordinate number of items in her Target registry. I am glad to see that Arkansas went the "character" route here. There's no feasible way that they could keep Petrino, given the circumstances, and appear trustworthy or credible as an institution (insert poetic SEC irony here). When it came down to preserving institutional values, Jeff Long made the right call. It just underscores an old business adage - don't screw your subordinates, literally or figuratively.

Kudos to Jeff Long on making a tough, but right decision. Love the quote as well, "no individual is bigger than the team!" I wonder where he got that from.

Just look at this guys track record which has been pretty well documented in this thread alone. He has serious charachter issues bottom line. The question is do you think any other college program will take a chance on him? My guess is maybe a desperate one. Conference USA caliber maybe. But I really can see him landing another BCS job. I don't see how any AD could take the chance. You get fired from the most unethical conference in college athletics for unethical behavoir...thats pretty bad. Anyone else see him landing another college job, honestly?
