OT: NHL Player’s Wife Says He Threw Games to Feed Gambling Addiction
This is pretty wild: Evander Kane’s pregnant wife says he is a gambling addict and would tank his own games for profit. She also says he’s broke and that the bank is repossessing their house while he’s off partying in Europe. Not sure what to make of this but it’s a crazy situation, true or not.

He did file for bankruptcy back in January and then was sued for money laundering fraud in May while about to enter the 4th year of a 7 year contract that pays him 7M per year. He has also has earned just north of 40M on his ELC and second contract, previous to his current contract.
I feel there is a little from column A (she is crazy and getting back at him during a divorce) and a little from column B (may have a gambling problem). To his credit, he came out hard against it and is working with the NHL to clear his name.... nonetheless, not a good look
Can you explain why column A involves diagnosing someone with a mental illness without even knowing who they are?

Have you ever gone through a divorce? It never fails to bring out the best in people.
I don't think he was making a clinical diagnosis, rather just a general comment.
Kane's financial and gambling issues are well documented, but I seriously doubt he bet on hockey games, much less his own.

Why would you doubt it given he’s an admitted gambling addict? Frankly I’ll be surprised if it’s not true
Right? If you're betting on games, the easiest way to make sure you win is betting on your own game since you have a hand in the outcome.

Not a mental health professional but "crazy" probably isn't recognized in the DSM-V as a diagnosed illness.
Not in so many words. But check for a section titled “Disorders of the generally wacko.”

Are you Evander Kane?
Filing for bankruptcy while playing in the NHL and being sued for a $500,000 gambling debt makes me think she might be telling the truth so it’s safe to probably skip the columns. That’s just me though.

Emphasis mine. Why is it "to his credit" that he's denying the allegations? Do you expect him - while in the midst of a lawsuit, apparently - to just say, "Yup, I'm a gambling addict, blew all my money, and tried to throw a bunch of games"?
Of course not - just about ANYONE would deny deny deny. To say that this is "to his credit" is setting a very low bar.

Not sure she’s thought this through because her child support amount would take a hit if he loses that fat contract.
Cannot understand normal thinking

He has already made $56 million and currently makes $7 million a season, yet he has filed for bankruptcy? Something obviously isn’t right.

Yeah. He's terrible at picking winners.
Definitely has a broken picker-outer since he is going through a divorce.
Been there with an actual crazy woman. She was so crazy that, when I filed for divorce, she didn't even hire an attorney.
No gambling addiction, though. The extent of my gambling is that I've bought about 30 lottery tickets in 66 years.
Never been a pro hockey player, either.
But, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Throwing a hockey game (unless you are a goalie) has to be a helluva challenge. Youre gonna get cut before you ever make any real cash throwing games.
It wouldn't be easy and would be obvious if he did it often. But he could impact a carefully selected game occasionally. Of course, since it would be hard to assure a loss he might have lost as much as he won. Or even more! (That type of bad judgment would account for the bankruptcy!)
Yeah taking a penalty at the right time could help throw games, and yep look at that he led the league in penalty minutes 2 years in a row.
Also had a negative +/- in 12/14 years in the league.
From the sounds of it, this sounds legit.
However, as others have said, this is probably one of the hardest sports to throw. Even for +/- and prop bets.
Especially since he’s been been putting up career numbers but if he’s broke and trying to launder money... too much smoke.
I’ve made plenty of bad decisions in my life but some people still make me shake my head.
not being the best at making bad decisions is pretty much a compliment..... you're starting today in the win column!
Seriously, all that money and talent and he goes off and does something stupid like getting married. Some people never learn
August 2nd, 2021 at 10:16 AM ^
This is definitely the moral of the entire story. Why get married if you are successful? We can all learn so much from this simple case study.
Uhhh...yeah.
Why go home to this every night?....what are people thinking?

Sadly, Evander is one of those dudes that has enough talent to play professional sports for a living, yet has been his own biggest enemy and will squander away what would be a dream for most of us.

Of all the addictions, this one seems to get the least sympathy and I wonder why. Given the fact that this guy has made mega-millions and is still bankrupt and is getting a divorce, it seems that his addiction is every bit as self-destructive as somebody on heroin. Yet people are so quick to call him stupid or careless. He is, but he's also got a serious problem.
Look at what happened to Art Schlicter. Obviously people like this are tormented in their mind. It must be an addiction to the dopamine rush when they put everything on the line. That's truly sick and I feel sorry for them.

It is sad to see so much talent go to waste, but I still love his tweet regarding Ryan Reaves' suspension during the playoffs:
Instead of a suspension they should have to play him 20 minutes a night for the rest of the series ?

Well, this is happening because people simply do not know how to choose the right sources of income. I've been playing for a long time and I don't have any addiction and other things. All because thanks to dr bet uk, I know so much useful information to play at the casino correctly. If you are interested in this, then I highly recommend that you read more about it!
