OT: My dog's (Zoltan) impromptu visit to UConn's Rentschler Field
So my wife and I were driving back to New York this weekend from Cape Cod, and wound up stopping by the Cabelas in Hartford, CT. As we pulled into the parking lot, I noticed that across the street is Rentschler Field, the home of the UConn Huskies. Once I got over the fact that UConn's stadium is about 30 miles from their campus, I decided to take a quick look with my dog, Zoltan. Yes, that last part is important.
The stadium looks like your typical new-ish stadium - lots of glass, sharp angles, nice-ish seating, big screen, etc. It also features a rather large Husky head, something my pup noticed almost immediately. Normally she is very good with distractions - I guess a byproduct of living in New York City. But one of the few things that consistently annoys/bothers her are large, innanimate depictions of dogs (such as the Petsmart in Troy, MI, which has a 6-foot labrador retreiver statute that she barked at repeatedly). So when she saw the Husky, I thought she was going to freak out a bit. Instead, she eyeballed it, growled a little, peed on the grass facing it, and then proceeded to walk away as if she couldn't be bothered.
Now, I'm not big on metaphors, but I see something with the way she responded to the Huskies. She loves wearing her UM collar, will sit with me whenever the game is on, and though one of her best friends is a Buckeye, she is still about as true Wolverine fan you can find in a dog. Like her namesake, she truly is a master of space and time, able to clear mid-sized fences in a single bound, jump about 4 feet vertically from a sit, and (to paraphrase Fred Jackson) juking ability that would make a Barry Sanders-Mike Hart hybrid blush. So if she is not intimidated by the Huskies, then the rest of the Wolverines shouldn't either. Bring on Saturday - I know my dog is ready.

Seriously though, reading that put a smile on my face. Dogs are great.

Wish I could get my dog to sit with me during a football game, all she does is bark at everything that moves outside the window.

My dog usually sits with me when I watch TV or movies, but stretches out across the room for Michigan games. I am guessing I am too tense, and tend to cheer, yell and jump too much ...

Out of curiosity, what breed is your dog?

Black mutt - probably a little pointer, maybe a little terrier. Hard to tell, but she is from a shelter in Tenn. so we guessed based on the type of dogs you would expect to find down there.

So my yellow (maize) lab named Roy would have a friend in NYC? Aw, who am I kidding, an ax murderer could break in and he'd try to lick him while I was being hacked to death.
Roy is the best name in history of all time ever, I don't care what anyone says.

You named him for Roy Roundtree, right? RIGHT?

and you named your female dog Zoltan?

It's probably the equivalent of neutering a male dog.

She goes by Zoey, but my wife and I really liked the name and she definitely tough enough to carry the Space Emperor's name.

For all the Wolverines' troubles last year, the kicking game was not among them, with Zoltan Mesko handling all duties and emerging as one of the most outstanding punters in the nation, while hitting 11 of 15 field goals, including a long of 51 yards.

....that UConn's stadium, and somewhere that we play in the near future, has the college atmosphere of being 30 miles off campus and across the street from Cabela's.

What is Scout's rating on her?

So why did they build the stadium so far away from campus, anyway? Isn't Storrs in the middle of nowhere? There has to be plenty of vacant land.
