MSU grad, found unconscious in a motel room in Palm Springs, CA, wakes up only able to speak Swedish, unable to remember his past or create new memories.

MOD EDIT: To be fair, as unusual as the circumstances and the resulting condition are, it isn't exactly an "LOLSparty" moment, so we'll call it what it is. - LSA

So he's using the old "found unconscious in a motel room in Palm Springs, CA, wakes up only able to speak Swedish, unable to remember his past or create new memories" excuse huh?

I tried that one once. Didn't work with my first wife.

There is a MyDesert.com piece which provides some of the things which are known about Michael Boatwright. Full story is here. Among them:

- He served from 1971 to 1973 in the U.S. Navy as an aviation mechanic, the Department of Veterans Affairs confirmed.

 - Boatwright was likely a 3D graphic designer and had taught English in both Japan for 10 years and China for four years.

- Dade County Missing Persons Bureau says his parents were dead — his mother in 2012 and father in 1997. He had other aunts and uncles who had also died and another ex-wife he had divorced in 1983. He might have had two sisters in Sweden.

- Boatwright flew to Palm Springs from Hong Kong on Feb. 24, the day his Chinese visa expired.

There is actually a series of comments from Swedish folks who saw the article and claim to know him, saying that he portrayed Johan Ek in renaissance fairs throughout Sweden.

but I find nothing funny about this. Even pre mod edit as I just noticed this and some people need to distance life from sports. This is not at all funny to me and kind of sad regardless of school or country, etc
