OT: Movie filming in the Law Quad
So I'm walking around downtown with my wife last night and we decide to walk through the law quad. We walk in there and notice a film crew just hanging around, two guys are playing some baseball (pitcher/batter) while everyone else is just standing around and assume its probably a smaller movie. We walk to the front steps of the law school and see a memorial to some professor (I didn't connect the dots immediately that this was part of the movie set) and I see some of the cards saying, "Get well Professor ____ " and I say, "whoa this is for a professor at UM", my wife replies while pointing at a picture, "Does that look like a Professor at UM?" Its a picture of Ed Harris. We walk through the rest of the law quad/movie set, they hadn't actually set up any major sets and were using the beautiful space as is.
So we get home and look up Ed Harris/Ann Arbor to see what movie it is. Its a movie called Salvation Boulevard with Ed Harris, PIerce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Marisa Tomei, Jennifer Connoly, and Jim Gafigan.

I just think its really cool to see movies filming in the Ann Arbor area since we all know how beautiful and awesome the UM campus/downtown area is. David Schwimmer was filming a movie with Clive Owen in the Diag a couple months called Trust and Scream 4 is set to film in Ann Arbor in the next couple months.
...very cool. I'll have to add those movies to my list of films to see.
The surge in Michigan filmmaking is in large part due to this. Also, see this for some interesting info on various productions.
Quite impressive.
IIRC, some of this was filmed in the reading room at the Law Quad:
Marisa Tomei... so dreamy
I was thinking the same thing...
Sounds silly, but Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinnie has to be one of the most attractive roles I have ever seen.
Wild Hogs.
I just love the idea of Pierce Brosnan and Jim Gaffigan in the same move. "I'm Bond. James Bond." "Hi, I'm the Hot Pockets guy. Want some bacon?"
I was hoping to read how you and the wife made $10,000 on college-dorm-dare.
Marissa Tomei's name, I always flash on "The Critic".
"Hello Jay, this is the Devil. Despite what you think, I am not the reason Cher won an Oscar. I am the reason Marisa Tomei won an Oscar."
The Critic was such a great show!
Definitely saw Greg Kinnear getting into his trailer yesterday when I was walking past the Law Quad. They were using the entrance to the Law Library as an entrance to a church, according to some extras that were hanging around.
The Law Quad is a replica of an English college. English colleges had a fairly standard layout, with respect to where the buildings are located in relation to each other, and the Law Quad follows that. One of the standard buildings in an English college is a student chapel. When the Law Quad was designed, a building was put up that looked (from the outside) like the chapel. The law school uses it for the cafeteria.
I'm aware of that. I was talking about where they were filming and what they were using it for, not what the place was designed to look like.
of law school architecture. It just makes me laugh to think that the law school uses the chapel for a mess hall, and I can't resist a chance to mention it to anyone.
I wasn't aware of that, so I learned something
So that's what movie they were filming. I was wondering cause I live on Third and East Williams, and on Monday they blocked off that intersection to film a movie at the corner house there. They had trailors parked along E William.
Here are some pictures from when they were filming there.

Because we all know comedies are so thrilling.
They should make a Substitute 5 and film it there
Jennifer Connolly is in Ann Arbor? I'm taking the day off and heading down to campus!
...you be taking the day off anywhere but on campus? And what would Mia Sara have to say about such a dalliance?
I saw Jonah Hill at Weber's over graduation weekend. I couldn't find any info on a movie that he's filming here, but it was still cool to see a movie star. I also saw Hilary Swank at Angelo's back when she was filming that small indie film on campus two years ago. And that's my cool story, brah.
Jonah was at UM for his girlfriend's graduation. Saw it on Letterman last night.
I thought he was just playing to the crowd. But there's no reason to throw U-M a bone on Letterman if it wasn't true. Good confirmation.
...sighting would cause me to perform a double take followed by a mouth agape stare -- and I would not be ashamed if anyone saw me.
The state is giving big incentives to entertainers to make products in Michigan, and it's paying off big time. It's probably the only smart move made by the government in the past 10 years.
