OT: More nasty weather tonight
fellow Michiganders!
Man the summer I decide the stay up North in Mt Pleasant, Ann Arbor gets hit with all the cool weather.
I'm high and dry up here and they're boarding up windows. So jealous...
leave Mt. Pleasant and come back to the SE Michigan area for good and all the cool weather is still south of me!
Figures don't it? Someday maybe we'll figure out this Michigan weather. It keeps us guessing all the time.
Earthquakes? Tornadoes? What's next? Super hurricanes from Canada that leave 30 feet of snow and send us into the next ice age?

Apparently amateur radio has spotted a tornado on the ground near Saline-Milan Rd and Jewell (SP?) Rd.
that's about where I was thinking when i looked at the radar. This is now the second time this year that I have been in tornado alley under blue skies while Ann Arbor is under a tornado warning.
Most people would be happy about that TTUwolverine...

We'll see. Although it did happen in the right spot relative to the radar, it doesn't take much to be a "trained spotter." Just a 3 hour class and you get a little card that says so. I've seen a lot of storms with "trained spotter" warnings that don't actually verify because someone called in a pointy-looking cloud. That said, I could just be cranky that I didn't see it.
I'm technically a trained spotter. I go out spotting for sky warn whenever it's light out, and if I radio something in I won't until 100% certain. I can't tell you how many old guys are on there and will report every lightning strike and scud they see.
I've spent a lot of time storm chasing, and it drives me crazy when amateur chasers report "scudnadoes" because they want whatever it is that they're seeing to be a tornado so badly. This is magnified at night, when lightning can make every cloud in the sky look like a tornado. But, its a tough thing to sort though for a meteorologist issuing the warnings because they don't have time to debate whether or not the spotter knows what they're looking at. There are a lot of spotters out there that know what they're doing, but I've seen so many tornado warnings on crap storms that I'm now skeptical of all reports unless they say something along the lines of "Large and Dangerous Tornado on the ground" (although I've even seen a false report that was worded like that on a storm I was staring right at).
To be fair though, this supposed tornado happend in an area that had already been warned on from Doppler, so the NWS already saw that the storm had potential, so there is a chance this was legit. All this being said, if you're sitting at home and the sirens are going off, just go to the basement regardless of what the warning text says. All tornado warnings have some reason for being issued, and it's not worth the risk.

Ahh yes, the ever present "sheriffnado" is worse in my opinion. Only because every time I end up talking to a local cop, I end up sitting next to Billy-the-hick-sheriff when he is calling it in. I never call the guy out for calling in scud that isn't even spinning, because you know, he is carrying a gun and has possibly been drinking. I love chasing in Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska!
I work with a guy who has a fascination with storms, and I spent an hour or two yesterday hearing all about how he's pretty much the only person this side of the Mississippi that knows how to spot a tornado. Obviously I would have no idea, but it was pretty funny. At some point someone came in and mentioned that one of the GR meteorologists said she had walked out of her house and seen a funnel cloud, and this guy kept saying, "Until I see it myself, I don't believe it. She might have a little more credibility than some, but I don't believe it."

Haha well anyone can put Shakespeare in their signature so i'm not sure that that means anything. I wasn't trying to get into a grammatical pissing contest, I was merely pointing out my dislike for the word(?) "hella".
And I didn't take it personally. But there's a difference between "I dislike that word" and "your life will have no meaning."
And while using Shakespeare certainly doesn't make one intelligent, it might be a red flag that a person is enough of an arrogant jackass to get all defensive when his word choice is questioned.

Red Flag noted. Grammar is definitely not my strong suit so I doubt that this will ever be an issue. With my abilities if I tried to correct someone's grammar I would most likely end up butchering the correction.
Tornado sirens blew in downtown Chicago about 3 hours ago. The storm is no joke.

Wow. I mean, WOW! It was like driving through lightening being fed through the firing chamber of a machine gun. Cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground strikes hitting so fast, you couldn't count the time in between them. They were, for all intents and purposes, constant. The sky was not dark as I drove north on I-275 from about I-94 to Ann Arbor Rd. It was like driving in a brightly lit room. I've never seen anything like it. That storm was no joke.

This weather blew through Chicago today delaying my flight from Houston by 4 hours. Of course we then missed the connecting flight to Dayton and with everyone being backed up to later flights are forced to overnight it in O'Hare. Good times had by all!
But at least my family had a great time in Houston visiting our friends so even though the end was less than desired we still had fun and thats all that counts. We just looked at tonight as a big adventure. Yipee and Go Blue to Chicago!
Is not a really long trip, (~4.5 hours). I've driven it in the past when I've had flight cancellations, (which at O'Hare is about, oh, every time I fly through). Next time, consider renting a car one way and just driving it. Better than trying to sleep on the floor of an airport, IME.
but otherwise calm here in Wyoming, MI. Unlike the hellstorm we had the other night.
Flooding on I-55. Reported 85mph winds and micro bursts @ O'Hare.The sky looked like it did in Independence Day.
Took the wife to Big Bowl and a movie downtown.
down the basement for about an hour last night and discovered something.
That old pull out couch isn't NEARLY as comfortable as the bed upstairs.
