I really hope he doesn't decide to bail on Cinci at this point. I understand how ND would be a step up from Cinci on a historical level, but I think the University is willing to do what it can to keep him.
I wouldn't mind seeing Cinci make a push to join the B10 as a member in order to see it able to afford to keep Kelly. Think of what OSU would do if they actually had to compete with another B10 school in the same state. At this point, I could see Cinci do some damage in recruiting and wins against OSU.

Why the negging? Clarkie may have been a bit harsh, but Cinci is an academic backwater, relatively speaking. I believe US News & World Report declared it a "Tier 3" school. There are many more logical choices in that conference (e.g., Rutgers, Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Pitt).

I believe the negging is from people who disagree with his analogy. Sure the Renaissance Era is pretty famous and people think highly of it while most people don't view the Reconstruction as a great time period.
But the reconstruction had trains, guns and electricity. Those are pretty sweet. Reconstruction was a huge step up technologically.
The mgovoters demand precise historical analogies.

about the general academic standing of UC. I do know that for the program I'm in, it's top 10, and is one of the oldest and most respectable programs out there.
I've only been on main campus probably 4 times and three of them were to get parking passes and go to a library.

I didn't think there academics were that terrible, but then again, Taft is really the only notable non-athletic alumni I can think of off the top of my head. My only hope is that if ND does decide to poach him they let him stay and play the bowl game. I really want to see Tebow cry again...

Okay, neither were we but it was less dumb 3 years ago. I expect Harbaugh to stay and turn Stanford into a dominating regional power, at minimum. Check out his latest recruiting rankings -- and Stanford doesnt go by just the normal NCAA standards.

I don't think that Harbaugh will be at Stanford for more than two years. He'll either be in the NFL or at Michigan (unless he gets the ND job this year).
RR has to be thinking that Harbaugh will get his job if he goes 6-6 or worse next season. Just my guess.

why would he think about who his successor would be? that makes no sense at all. it's far more likely he's thinking about how he's going to finish up this recruiting class and what they'll work on this coming spring.

RR's job is on the line. You're completely kidding yourself if you don't recognize it. Charlie Weis knew it every game this season. RR will know it for every game next season.
I'm not trying to say that he's done at Michigan. Hell, he might go 9-3 and play in a New Year's Day bowl game. I'm just saying that another 5-7 seaon will be his last. There's a lot of pressure in coaching.

The point is that RR won't care who his successor is if he gets fired. If he's gone then he's gone and it won't matter to him who gets his old job.

not unless there's an abnormal amount of stanford academic level football players in california in the near future. that's one of the bigger reasons stanford is where they are as a football program. there's too many players that can't get in academically. then of course there's USC, oregon, and the rest of the pac-10 to worry about...

"the reconstruction?" Do you mean Reconstruction in the American South after the Civil War? That's a pretty odd analogy, seeing as how the Renaissance lasted almost three centuries and Reconstruction didn't even last two decades.

ND was a football power for about 80 years; Cincy for 3.
That said, I don't find the analogy particularly insightful; the only thing "Renaissance" and "Reconstruction" have in common is a prefix. The effects of the Renaissance last to the present day; Reconstruction faded relatively quickly, its last vestiges snuffed out by Wilson.

and is not playing for the title. That would never, ever happen at Notre Dame. If Notre Dame went 12-0, they would be declared national champions without having to play in a bowl. Of course, they would do the right thing and decline a bowl bid, so that Notre Dame's 'model student athletes' could study for finals and spend time with their families.

if CW had gone 12-0 with ND this year, the hype machine may not have been strong enough to overcome the undefeated teams from SEC and Big XII. Especially considering that a ND win over 7-5 USC would not be the signature win you'd have thought at the start of the season. ND, without a conference championship game, would get jumped the final weekend, IMO.

Seeing as Stanford never plays UM and ND plays UM once every season, I'm thinking Harbaugh would love the chance to stick it to UM by coaching ND. Only time will tell though.

I do wish he was our football coach, even as I hope the best for our team and RR. If Notre Dame is smart enough to offer him the position, and he takes it, they will be the better for it, and yes it will pain me to no end.

That just sounds childish and immature. A "real Michigan Man" would stick up for his fellow alumni, celebrate their successes, and generally show more integrity and respect. While I think Harbaugh's comments were brash and ruffled feathers for people like Hart who truly do live up to the ideals of a student-athlete, he isn't the only person in our community to have criticized the delicate balance of academics and athletics that has evolved over time at the University. As a former player, AA native and assistant coach, I wouldn't reduce his opinion to the level of a hackneyed hatchet job, it is a least a valid opinion formed by someone with very intimate knowledge of the school and the program.

Harbaugh is like that hot younger sister of an ex girlfriend. She looks like the ex but who knows if she would put out like her. There was only one Bo.
RR is that hot Mexi you never thought you would date-she will take some getting used too becuase you never hit it like that before but once you learn about the hot sauce you will never dip into the mild salsa again.
