OT The Lions going forward...

Submitted by Yessir on October 18th, 2019 at 10:47 PM

So that sucked, but we're 2-2-1.  Shoulda Coulda...  Shoulda beat KC, but prolly lost to Philly. Worst quarter in our season(and not even close) cost us a win vs Cards.  At least it was just a tie.

And then there's the Packers game.  Ref saw Flowers do that all damn game and decided to throw it after Packers were stopped TWICE?  "Here's another set downs for ya Mr. Rodgers".  FUCK!

Conference play is going to be big.  5 left, 3 at home. If we can win all our home games against the division, we would be 5-4-1.  Hope we could steal a game vs Bears or Vikes on the road. 6-3-1. One can hope.

6 Non-Con games. 3H, 3A.  I'm going to go ahead and put 3 in the win column.  Redskins away, Bucs at our place and you can pick one between Giants at our place or Broncos away.

3 and 3 puts us at 8-7-1 if we go 3-3 in our division and 3-3 non-cons.

Not gonna make playoffs, so we need to steal a game on the road, hopefully Bears, 9-6-1 which could possibly get us in.  If we could steal another non-con game like Raiders on the road or win both Broncos and Giants at our house, we'd be 10-5-1.  Probably about the best we can hope for.  That should get us in.

There are no sure losses on our schedule if we keep playing like we've been playing... sans 1 qtr vs Cards.  Who knows how Cowboys will be playing when they visit Ford Field.  We've been competitive vs KC, Philly, Chargers and Packers.  Cowboys aren't head and shoulders better than those teams.

Say what you want, but the Lions are the type of team that if we make the playoffs, who knows.

Been a weird season so far, hope it settles down.  Just hope we improve this year, take a step forward for a change.

Go Lions!

Loss at Bears, at Vikings, one more, probably away. Beating GB at Ford Field (as well as CHI and MIN) puts us at 10-5-1 and I think that's a WC at least.

So, it has to start Sunday. Tough game at home, but if they want to be a playoff team, it's one they have to win.

Though, if they lose Sunday, I could see typical Lions tailspin time and heading for 6-10 again. Really wish they could have a consistent run game. Stafford and Bevell have the pass game figured out, and special teams seems good. Defense needs to improve.

Passing D seems ok.  Like the news CBs.  Run D ended middle of the pack last year and think they can do that again.

Read that Bevell is calling plays to help out the Oline. Quick plays, etc, so our oline is grading out ok, but not sure if that cuz of play calls.  We kept Philly's D honest.  They had to keep men in the box to defend our run and let Stafford pass.  Sometimes run success can't be measured in yards.  Not saying this is totally correct, but that's my story and I'm keeping to it.

A few things from watching the Lions this year that has me paying attention to the fact that Patricia might be legit:

1. this team plays very hard. Tells me that the players are bought in to the culture and direction of the organization

2. their execution seems to be better (not good, but better to quote Kurt Russell).

They still do things to beat themselves, so they won't be for real until they limit those shot-to-the-foot plays and stop putting themselves in a position where they are at the mercy of the refs or other team to determine the outcome of the game.

That said, they do play like a time that is going to show up and compete every week. We haven't always been able to say that about the Lions.

I am of the mindset that I will ride the ebbs and flows with my team as long it looks like they have a semblance of vision and the steps to take to get there. If they continue with the effort and continue to improve their execution, I'll still be a proud Lions supporter.

The defense under Patricia seems WAY more disciplined to me than it's been since.... maybe in my lifetime.  They made plays here and there under Schwartz, but also gave up home run plays and committed boneheaded penalties one after another.  Maybe that had to do with the players at the time (Suh, Fairley, etc.) but it sure seems like this D is smart and capable of slowing any offense on any given week.  Still gotta finish drive on offense though, that's gonna be the achilles heel. Until that happens with regularity, they are a wildcard team at best.

"...at the mercy of the refs..."

Well, in games like Monday night, it doesn't matter how well you play, the refs are gonna find a way.  They did.  The Lions made plays to win the game, but the refs flat out took it away.  They took it every bit as much as they took the 2016 OSU game.

In the NFL, pretty much every game is going to be even up.  Slight advantages here and there, sometime you get blowouts, sometimes you get upsets.  Sometimes, the refs are bound to determine things...

My cynical view is that this is the year where Patricia flirts with the playoffs to give Lions fans false hope. In his third year, he loses the team early in the season, the Lions win just enough games to hurt their draft position and the only drama is if Patricia is fired during or after the season.

I hope to be wrong, but these are the Lions...

I think they can too. Shit, they can still win the division. They've only played one divisional game and the hardest venue at that.

I think the D is good enough to keep them in every game the rest of the way. The offense needs to take the next step from converting FG's to touchdowns.

I think if they do that, they can win a lot of games this season.

This year's Lions team feels different than any team in recent memory.  Seems like they are finally getting their shit together.  Stafford is playing really well.  They are running the ball well.  Defense is serviceable.  It's a little bend don't break but it seems to be working.  I think 10-5-1 is there for the taking.

I think we've all seen that the NFL isn't going to let the Lions get anywhere near success. They won't beat "America's Team" even at home. The whole thing is rigged. Patricia should just pull the team off the field the next time the NFL pulls crap like they did in GB. Walk off and let the league deal with the consequences.

They are a year away quite candidly.   Running game is not good enough to control the ball and bleed out the clock.   But for the first time, in a LONG time, Lions have an actual path and plan.   I’m actually very excited for the future as by next year they will be the most balanced team in the league with real depth.

Here's what drives me insane about this particular Lions season - they have been in the lead in the 4th quarter in ALL of these games to date, and they are 2-2-1. You know what good teams do? No that.

I like the intensity I see this year when I watch the Lions. I think the lack of pass rush makes me think they will not make the playoffs. Hopefully, they can build on this season and get a couple more pieces for next year.
