OT: Justin Verlander picks up first career World Series Win
Verlander picked up the first world series win of his career tonight in his 9th start. Crazy considering his postseason success outside of the WS.
He only made it 5 innings with 1 run but I'm certain he will take it!
Astros now lead 3-2 in the series, game 6 is Saturday night in Houston.

Snip fail, let's try that again! JVs career postseason stats.

Damn I knew his prior record wasn’t great but that’s rough series record for one of his generation’s best. Make it happen old man

Same here. I guess he is the Peyton Manning of pitchers. I'm glad he got the win. Not bad for someone almost 40. Snaps for JV.

Good for him. Guy’s life was really incomplete

I know. Now if he could only shit gold nuggets.

Kate Upton and Justin's banker say hi.

And he wasn't great last night either. Gave up a lead-off HR to Schwarber on a good pitch at the top of the letters, but Schwarber got on top of it. He got out of a couple more jams along the way. Gave up 4 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.
Great game to watch and glad to see JV finally get off the schneid in the World Series.

Too bad it wasn’t for the Tigers…

Amazing. It's almost like Izzo in Final Four semifinal games.

It's 2022...how is his arm still attached?
November 4th, 2022 at 9:55 AM ^
he's 39 years old, sat out two seasons with Tommy John surgery and might win his 3rd Cy Young and 2 WS. Amazing.

Good for JV. Wish he could have gotten it done with the Tigers, but will always be a fan.
Still can't believe the Tigers did not win a series with that rotation and line-up. 2013 was the year. Who starts Ortiz off with a fastball knowing he is sitting dead red?
Rant over. Not bitter.

That bullpen. Ugggh.
November 4th, 2022 at 8:08 AM ^
Username checks out for that bullpen. One of the worst I've ever seen... Talk about polar opposites - the starting rotation vs the bullpen.
November 4th, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
I know the bullpen wasn't great, and that cost them in 2013, but the reason the Tigers didn't win a WS was the absolute lack of offense when they needed it the most. they choked in the WS.
2006: in 5 WS games, they had 11 runs and 32 hits.
2013: in 4 WS games, they had 6 runs and 20 hits.

move scherzer to the bullpen in the post season and the tigers likely get a ring.

AND he gets to go home to Kate Upton......
she could have been mine, if it wasn't for him...... or so I tell myself.
November 4th, 2022 at 8:44 AM ^
Eh, I've been rejected by prettier girls than Kate...

Doesn’t really change the narrative for him but it must be nice to have the W and it’s not like the WS thing was ruining his rep. Maddux, Kershaw, others survive it.
November 4th, 2022 at 9:43 AM ^
Still not sure which team I want to win the Series but I'm glad for Verlander.
November 4th, 2022 at 9:48 AM ^
eh how can anyone cheer for the astros?
November 4th, 2022 at 10:18 AM ^
I'll always cheer for JV. Doesn't mean I want the Astros to win the series.
November 4th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
Good for him. Glad he's got that elusive first win.
I don't like the Astros by any stretch (I don't love the Phillies either) but Verlander seems like a decent guy so I hope he wins another title and solidifies his HOF credentials.

If it were not for Covid and Tommy John, it'd be achievable for him to get to 300 wins. He needs four more seasons of just under 15 wins or three seasons of almost 20 wins. Not sure he can get there.

Congrats to JV. Always been a fan of his Hall of Fame career.

Justin should have stayed with the Tigers. His World Series record would not get worse. Bye the bye, who did the Tigers get in return for Justin? "Face of the Tigers", Cy Young winner. MVP. No hitters (2); HOF. Asking for a friend.
