OT: Justin Verlander picks up first career World Series Win

Submitted by redjugador24 on November 4th, 2022 at 12:13 AM

Verlander picked up the first world series win of his career tonight in his 9th start. Crazy considering his postseason success outside of the WS.

He only made it 5 innings with 1 run but I'm certain he will take it!

Astros now lead 3-2 in the series, game 6 is Saturday night in Houston.

And he wasn't great last night either.  Gave up a lead-off HR to Schwarber on a good pitch at the top of the letters, but Schwarber got on top of it.  He got out of a couple more jams along the way.  Gave up 4 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.

Great game to watch and glad to see JV finally get off the schneid in the World Series.

Good for JV.  Wish he could have gotten it done with the Tigers, but will always be a fan.

Still can't believe the Tigers did not win a series with that rotation and line-up.  2013 was the year.  Who starts Ortiz off with a fastball knowing he is sitting dead red?

Rant over. Not bitter.

I know the bullpen wasn't great, and that cost them in 2013, but the reason the Tigers didn't win a WS was the absolute lack of offense when they needed it the most.  they choked in the WS.

2006: in 5 WS games, they had 11 runs and 32 hits.

2013: in 4 WS games, they had 6 runs and 20 hits.

Good for him.  Glad he's got that elusive first win.

I don't like the Astros by any stretch (I don't love the Phillies either) but Verlander seems like a decent guy so I hope he wins another title and solidifies his HOF credentials.

If it were not for Covid and Tommy John, it'd be achievable for him to get to 300 wins. He needs four more seasons of just under 15 wins or three seasons of almost 20 wins. Not sure he can get there.

Justin should have stayed with the Tigers.  His World Series record would not get worse.  Bye the bye, who did the Tigers get in return for Justin?  "Face of the Tigers", Cy Young winner.  MVP. No hitters (2); HOF. Asking for a friend.
