OT: if you could have any job in sports...

Submitted by spiff on

The paper today showed the Lions and their salaries. The punter - a 26 year old who punted 62 times last season - is making $2.8 million next season.

So to me, if I could have any job in sports (or any job period) it would be an NFL punter.

What would you be if you could have any job in the sports industry? Starting ace for a World Series bound team? Power-broker agent or GM? NBA all star?

I am SHOCKED you didn't say Director of Equipment Operations at Michigan or Football Equipment Manager.

You'll still get UNIFORMZ and gear as AD though. But you'll have some know-it-all message board poster trying to get you fired all the time.

(In any year but this one, I would rather be Tom Brady's backup.  You don't get hit in practice, you almost never play, but you get to make NFL money.  Like punters and placekickers, the odds that you will be able to spend all that money without having CTE or legs that don't work as you get older are high.

Yeah. Golf.

I don't even like golf that much. But the punishment and risk of injury your body takes in every other major sport is such a turn-off. And you still get that mega-celebrity salary and rockstar perks.

I've had a couple of students go to college on golf scholarships. One of them, freshman golfers were the only freshman allowed to have cars on campus (because of the need to carry bags around). The life, man, that is the life.

Give me the GameDay crew's job......I've always said that Kirk, Dez, and Fowler when he was still hosting have the best job in sports.  Work from late August thru January visitng a different campus every week....yeah I'd take that job, no doubt.

I would want to have Mario Impemba's job just to see how much snark I can throw in Rod Allen's direction before he snaps and leaves the broadcast, then I could get someone that I could actually talk to about baseball.
