Dude, that just made the derby interesting. Loving the KC fans right now.
Maybe if you're a team like the Tigers you'd have a beef with that. Kansas City, however, has gotten in a lot more "scrubs" than the Yankees have based on the one player per team rule alone. Who on the Yankees over the past 15 years has been such an atrocious fan pick?
Russell Martin wasn't a fan vote and Mark Teixeira hasn't been selected since 2009 when he led the American League in home runs and RBIs.
It happens plenty. I can't name a ton off my head right now (I think ARod made a couple he shouldn't have).
But, this year is one of the worst, granted it's not a Yankee: Mike Napoli.
Granderson has 23 HRs at the break. I think Jackson is more deserving but the point I'm trying to make is that Yankees fans don't stuff the ballot for "scrubs" who don't belong near the All-Star game. Not saying that every Yankee All-Star starter deserved to be a starter, but I don't think the All-Star game has been littered with Yankees having non-All-Star worthy years over the past 15 or so years.
Shit man. Are you serious?
Cano is a grown man. He can handle it.
Billy Butler deserves to be an All-Star. He has really good numbers this year, and one more RBI than Cano, btw.
Yeah....anybody who watches baseball knows Billy Butler isn't some schmuck. Man has been a very good player for a few years and he's only 26. I'd gladly take him on my team.
He should have picked Butler. That would have been a great gesture allowing a guy to do the HR Derby in his home ballpark. It's a silly competition with nothing riding on it. Pick the home town guy. It's not like he has 5 home runs. He has 16 and he's a pretty damn good hitter.
This bullshit makes it unbearable. Cano sucks it up and everyone has to go up there and pat him on the ass and give him a gatorade. Just swing the bat.
EDIT: Ugh, Granderson and Sabathia go out there for their egos to talk to Cano's dad.
Kemp with one, Cano shut out. There goes my pick.
Beltran, Trumbo, Fielder and Bautista advancing.
Cano just got struck out by his old man.
The shutout! Of Cano!
That was hilarious.
Prince advances!
Prince survives!
Boom, Inged.
Gotta love it.
Prince getting into the groove now.
Prince is heating up ...
Kruk going to town on the ribs...
Figures that while they're interviewing George Brett, Kruk's fat ass is wolfing down ribs right next to him.
"Lady, I'm not an athlete, I'm a ballplayer."
Prince is putting on a show this round.
Prince is tearing it up, making up for the low first round total.
At least five into the water so far for Fielder......and one into a suite.
Jeebus. Kruk's got like a conveyor belt between the rib tray and his mouth.
The derby is actually pretty lame. Terrible commentary, boring interviews, the awful visual of Kruk stuffing his face with meat, and the occasional homerun in between. The only good part has been the Cano trolling.
Kruk stuffing his face with meat was hilarious, he should've gotten a scoreboard graphic for that performance.
It was decent, but let's not get carried away. He's no Costanza with hot fudge.
and also Prince launching objects into water.
I was enjoying the Home Run Derby until they showed the NCAA Football commercial with Desmond Howard in an ohio uniform. I also threw my TV out of the window. Please update on Prince!
Loitering shmoitering, he was tryna get himself some of that rib action before Kruk snarfed them all.
is my favorite two word combination in this thread.
YES YES YES
Prince advances to the finals against either Trumbo or Bautista.
Prince needs to win so he can pick Cabby to be in the Derby next year as well.
Man, do I love rooting for Detroit over Toronto. It's just so perfect.
I just hope Prince doesn't go into a hellacious slump because of this.
