OT: Help University of Michigan Flag Football Team go to Nationals!
(Note: I am not on this team however, the guys who are are almost all involved in helping out michigan athletic teams and/or active members of the maize rage. Let's send them to nationals)
Dear MGoBoard,
This past weekend, the top intramural flag football team on campus, “Denard’s Shoelaces”, traveled to Columbus to participate in the ACIS Flag Football Midwest Championships. The winner of the tournament would receive a bid to the National Championships at West Florida University, which takes place December 29th to 31st.
The tournament format paralleled that of the World Cup; teams were divided into four pools, and after pool play, the top two teams from each pool would advance into the knockout stage. 14 teams entered the tournament from schools such as Purdue, Indiana State, Wright State, Cleveland State, Miami (NTM), Youngstown State, Northern Kentucky, Dayton, Ohio State, and of course, Michigan.
Denard’s Shoelaces’ (DS) pool opponents included OSU and Purdue. On Friday night, they defeated OSU 25-19 with timely play calls and a pick six to seal the victory. Then on Saturday morning, DS handled Purdue’s team 37-8. With a 2-0 record in pool play, the Shoelaces advanced into the knockout round, where they would first face Youngstown State.
The Penguins from YSU proved no match for DS, as fleet-footed quarterbacks (yes, a two-QB system), ballhawking safeties and superior organization powered the Laces to a 51-6 victory. DS faced a Northern Kentucky squad in the Semifinal on Sunday morning; once again, they took commanding lead early on and coasted to a 27-6 victory.
Just as Michigan routinely played Ohio State for a chance at the Rose Bowl in generations past, the Shoelaces were confronted with the Buckeyes in the Midwest Regional title game. Unfortunately, OSU defeated Denard’s Shoelaces in the rematch 34-26. They would settle for second place and no bid to Nationals. QB Paul Betcher and WR Evan Kourtjian would be named to the All-Tournament team.
HOWEVA, ACIS is now offering a free birth to Nationals to one more team. The team whose photo on the ACIS Facebook page which receives the most “Likes” will automatically qualify for Nationals. Denard’s Shoelaces already has almost 500 “Likes”; with your help, we most certainly can help keep the Michigan Flag Football team alive for Nationals. Here is the link:

Denard’s Shoelaces

Sometimes, having all those multiple facebook accounts for Mafia Wars comes in handy. Liked, liked, and LIKED.
Also, having been pregnant and yadda yadda, I hope they give them a berth instead of a birth

Only one loss and had to settle for second place against a team that they beat in pool play? Stupid format.
