This never gets old.  And thanks to the athletic dept for featuring Heroes of the Game.  Every vet should be out there, though the ones who are saluted are certainly deserving.  Even if you didn't serve overseas, you detoured your  life for a period of time to serve the better good.  Thank you!

My father, Engineering class of '25 and Law '29, had an interesting WWII career as he used his U-M contacts to further the intelligence work for the invasion of France.  He joined the Navy as an intelligence officer hoping to "ride the waves."  He was assigned to the only Naval district not on an ocean, in the Kansas City area (Dodge City).  His mission was to recon France for the invasion and his method was to move to A2 and interview the many natives of France and other European countries on staff for their knowledge of coastal France, both on the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.  No doubt the info given to him helped for the successful launch of the conflict and invade away from the Mediterranean. It always amaizes me that people seem so thankful that we served in the military.  Personally, I've never found any reason that it was so unique, well, aside from the uniqueness if riding submarines.  I thought of it as a job, and it was the most exciting job I've ever had by a mile.  Where else can you film the keel of a Russian submarine at sea?  Nonetheless, it was a job that I did, and I didn't see it as special.  As I look back, I get the special aspect of it a little more, but still consider it a job - similar to any other job.  You have to get up each day, get dressed, and go to work.  The nature of the work is different, but it's still 'work'.

Anyway, thanks to all the other people that also served our military back in the day.  And those who are still doing so!  And also, thank you to the people who are thanking us for doing a thing some of us did a hundred years ago.  Despite it being 'just a job', hearing about it is a good feeling...

Happy Veterans Day to my fellow vets.

Veterans are proud of their military service in defending our Nation.

Honor reflects the military value and tradition of answering the call to duty.  There is distinct honor in serving to protect our way of life and the Constitution of the United States of America.

Second day in a row that I get to say "SFMF" to my Brother and Sister Marines.

I've had the pleasure of working my whole adult life with and around veterans and active-duty members of all of our Armed Forces. No finer group of people exist. Happy Veterans Day to all of you!
