OT: Gronk is Retiring
http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/26351121/grateful-gronkowski-announces-retirement
Can’t say I’m surprised, but still, kind of bummed. He’ll definitely be missed. This will definitely make it harder for Brady to get ring #7.
What do you all think Gronk does next? I could see him breaking into Hollywood. The guy is too big a personality to stay out of the spotlight. I can’t see him going the commentator route.
His first action will probably be to host a massive orgy.
I don't think he needed to retire to, uh, have one of those (again?!).
Bet if Kraft buys him a Japanese Massage Parlor and let's him wear #69 he'll be back
The greatest TE ever. Gonzalez has the longevity and was great in his own right, but Gronk to me is the GOAT TE. His past years were plagued by injuries, but when healthy (or even 50%), he was the Megatron/Moss of TEs.
This is the biggest loss Brady has probably ever had on offense. Bigger than Moss, Hernandez, Welker, Cooks etc....He is also one of the best blocking TEs as well, so the loss will be felt in a few areas.
The road for #7 just got much harder. Not putting it against TB12 to win #7, but this is a huge blow to their offense, though they have probably known about this coming for quite some time.
Hyperbole is with you.
Agreed at least, certainly within the top 4 with A. Gates, T. Gonzalez, and K. Winslow. Depends on what aspect of their game and what QB and offense you pair them up with to decide from there though.

Thanks for the kick in the nuts.
Sincerely,
Childhood Dolphins fan of the early 80s
I can see himas a spokesman for a laundry detergent...maybe that’s the bourbon talking again.
He’ll definitely be missed? By who?
Brady.
Brady. Pats fans. A lot of NFL fans.
A lot of people....
If you're going to be a jerk, at least do it correctly. "By whom*?"
Gronk was not only a great player and fun to watch, but had a fun personality, both on the field and off. Sure, he was polarizing and isn't for everyone, but to suggest Gronk appeals to no one is down right stupid.
A lot more important and relevant people, but also me.

Gronk has the personality of a big dumb happy puppy. In a world filled with bullshit and cynicism, a guy like that is a breath of fresh air.
Will go down as one of the greatest Tight End's of all time and is a sure fire Hall of Fame inductee. He should follow the Rock and go into Hollywood. Will be very interesting to see how Brady and Patriots perform without him.
Although Gronk played in the playoffs last year, he didn't look the same. Father time and lots of injuries caught up with him. He will be hard to replace but over the last few years, Gronk missed lots of games and the Pats still won. Scheme and the perfect QB to implement the scheme.
WWE can you smell what the Gronk is cooking
Gronk was a beast in his prime!
probably smart for him to get out now while he is relatively healthy
pats could nab one of the Iowa TEs in the draft
Agreed - with a lot of teams going away from the TE, it won't be terribly difficult to find a solid replacement (not one that will replace Gronk's production, but someone who can fill in OK).
Gonna be one helluva retirement party.
The Lions tried to trade for him. He was a shell of his former self last year. Gronk didn’t want to play for the Lions so we were saved. That’s all you got to know about the Lions.
Hey Google. Michigan football 2019 draft tight end.
I get Tom Brady went to Michigan but I'm tired of the Patriots dynasty. The last Super Bowl was brutal to watch.
These two things cannot co-exist. In these past two decades of despair, you cannot truly love Michigan and dislike the Patriots dynasty. Sorry. (looking at you "footballguy")
People seem to think Brady is going to have a major fall without Gronk, are crazy (yes Gronk is/was awesome)
in the past 3 seasons Gronk has missed 15 games and the Pats went 14-1

Would another year have really helped? To me his miserable showing at the combine said he wasn't really interested in making football a career choice.

Gentry ran better at his pro day. Yes i know everyone does better at their pro days, but at least he showed improvement and didnt stay at his high time
No player was more key to the overall success of Tom Brady over the past decade than Gronk, he will definitely be missed and I hope we are able to find an admirable replacement. I wish him only the best.
My first thought when he retired was that he'll let his body heal for a year or two and then come back for 1-2 more. Of course, I have nothing to base this on.

While NE is bummed tonight, something we knew was coming. What could be a better farewell: Game winning catch leading to final TD in AFC Championship. Followed up with the same in the Super Bowl. 3 rings and probably if healthy, would have 1-2 more. Whatever direction the road takes him, Hollywood, network studio or big time pitchman, all directions point to a trip to Canton OH in 5 years. Thanks for 9 tremendous and entertaining years. Gronk the player may be somewhat replaced, Gronk the personality, NEVER!
He will play the bad guy in Rocky XII.

Love the guy, not afraid to be himself despite the cynics. I thought it was refreshing that he was self aware he played a game for a living. Unlike some other players who needed to make statements he just did what he was being paid to do. Only 29, but you can’t blame the guy for getting out while he still will be able to pick up his kids later on in life.

Monster already put him on an energy drink. Maybe keystone light can put him on a beer
