OT - The Grammy's

Big news here: Beyonce pulled the ace out of her sleeve and covered an Alanis song. The best thing she could have done. Isn't that ironic?

I still hold that this was Ms. Morissette's plan the entire time. Create an song called "Ironic" with lyrics pertaining to situations that aren't ironic at all. The song itself is ironic. It's almost genius (were the song genius, would that also be ironic?).

OK, I listen to a very broad array of music (last weekend I bought 3 CD's: Zach Brown Band, Vampire Weekend and Weezer, for example). I've owned both Taylor Swift CD's for a while, and "Fearless" is one of my favorite albums in a long time, say what you will. Take away her musical talents, she is a fantastic songwriter and deserved that award (even though I'm watching on the west coast and we didn't get there yet, spoiler). FWIW, I like the Weezer CD the best so far.

I also got the Zac Brown Band album last year. I also own both Taylor Swift albums. I got them at gifts, but ended getting a copy for myself because it was a good album. Also Lady Antebellum's debut album was really good, I haven't listened to their new album yet. I don't get why Zac Brown Band was nominated for best new artist, when their album came out in 2008. When is the cut-off to receive a nomination?

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.

While I think that Taylor is a great song writer, the fact that she is not a good singer live bothers me more than anything else. I honestly believe that Beyonce or Lady Gaga deserved that award in terms of catchiness, talent and ability, and live performances. That said, music is incredibly subjective, so there's no point in really arguing about his, so I'm sorry if I come off as judgmental and authoritative.

Weezer is one of my favorite bands of all time. I have to say I was worried once Rivers actually got married and had a kid, because the foundation of their older stuff was not getting the girl, but the new stuff is awesome. I've seen them live twice (once with the Foo Fighters and the other with Angels & Airwaves--both main floor, yesss!) Weezer shows turn into giant sing alongs and are therefore awesome.

Very cool MGoJen, Weezer is no doubt my fave as well. They are the only band whose CDs I need to purchase the hard copy. I've also seen them twice, once with Angels and Airwaves as well (who sucked) in LA and once with The Strokes and Dashboard Confessional in Cuyahoga Falls, OH (very cool venue). I just want Weezer to play the Hollywood Bowl, although it might be impossible for me to get a ticket.

I almost went to see them with Blink 182 I think, at this outdoor venue just outside of Cleveland this past summer. The Make Believe tour show with the Foo Fighters was at Joe Louis and the show with A&A (they sucked!) was at the Palace of Auburn Hills. For the Palace show we managed to push our way to the verrrry front so I was against the barricade. I thought I was going to break a couple ribs but it was one of the coolest experiences of my life and totally worth it. Oh, and Scott threw his pick to the crowd during The Sweater Song and I caught it! It was awesome.

Censoring out a good chunk of the Weezy/Eminem/Drake performance was pretty shitty. Why even have them perform if you're going to censor out 10-15 second chunks at a time?
