OT - Golden State nearing the NBA win record

Submitted by snarling wolverine on

With seven games left, Golden State is now 68-7, two games ahead of the '95-'96 Bulls' pace at this same point.  They just won what seemed like a trap game, playing in the altitude of Salt Lake City on the second of a back-to-back, with yet another fourth-quarter comeback and OT win.  A 5-2 finish now will break the NBA win record.

What do you think their final victory total will be?  Here's their remaining schedule:

April 1 - vs. Boston (43-31)

April 3 - vs. Portland (39-36)

April 5 - vs. Minnesota (25-50)

April 7 - vs. San Antonio (63-12)

April 9 - at Memphis (41-34)

April 10 - at San Antonio (63-12)

April 13 - vs. Memphis (41-34)

GS is pretty banged up right now and it's still possible Steve Kerr could start resting guys for the playoffs, but at this point I've got to think they're going to try to complete the push and reach 73 wins.  They do play San Antonio twice, among others, but the Spurs probably don't have too much incentive at this point.

I think Poppovich already said he's not playing his main guys in the last games. So GS will end up with a perfect home record and a really great story, capped off by a repeat title. Good for them.

They've said as much.  Plus, if GSW wins the next 3 home games, San Antonio will be locked into the 2 seed before the two even play.

Spurs beat GS last time out.  They proved their point.  They'll rest for the playoffs.

As a Bay Area transplant, I'm probably biased, but they're so much fun to watch, it's impossible not to like them.

Plus, they're basically the ideal John Beilein team. That counts for something in my book.

as San Antonio could be going for first 41-0 home season ever by an NBA team (one Golden State may also get as well) and Warriors may be going for the record that day also. Could be a huge game.

They are so fun to watch, I'm rooting for them to break the record and get another ring. I'm a Suns fan but they are a mess so I find myself watching the Warriors when they are on tv.

if anything I think what the Warriors are doing should be admired and cherished by all fans especially in a sport where guys take nights off all the time.

This team with and how beautifully they play on offense and they still bring it on the defensive side as well, always come to play and have played at a very high level in almost every single game this season.

Not sure how this can ever be criticized. Has to be the most impressive season I can recall ever seeing from a professional sports franchise in my life.

They are really good, and they seem to have great chemistry. They seem like they are having a ball, and to me in this day in age where I've found it hard to get into the NBA for various reasons, they are refreshing. And for the Bulls to not have that record, as a piston fan, I'm more than cool with that. As a poster or two have said earlier, my one complaint is they seem to be sore losers, or sore when things don't go their way. From games I've watched, they tend to bitch and moan a bit. Maybe they are just used to everything going smooth that when it happens, it shows more than the average team, to me at least.

Another way basketball has turned unexpectedly sour lately.  I watch very little NBA, but was excited to see McGary take off after he was drafted.  I thought he'd be the loveable spark plug in a Thunder machine that made serious playoff runs every year, splashing all over sportscenter.  Somehow that ended up being Green.

It really sucks that McGary went to the Thunder. I have no idea why they have held onto him.

It's hard to tell if he hasn't developed at all or if he's just stuck behind Adams and Kantor (on a team that's going to play Ibaka at the 5 and Durant at the 4 in crunchtime, anyway).

But he's not playing at all and it's hard to imagine OKC picking up the option on his contract after next year. His agent should really be pushing for any kind of trade they can get.

His cap hit would be 2.5 million if OKC picks up his 4th year. Given that they'll be trying to resign both Durant (if he reups on a 1-year as most people expect) and Westbrook, that might be significant (though with the exploding cap number in the next two years, it won't be nearly as much as it once was).

Regardless, he needs to get out of there because he's unlikely to see a meaningful increase in playing time unless there's an injury to one of the guys in front of him.

Playing San Antonio twice is tough. Both those teams are so good. GS (36-0) and SA (38-0) are both undefeated at home, that's insane. Those games could be really incredible down the stretch if both teams are still playing their starters.

I am also surprised at any Golden State dislike. Curry and Thompson are both very likeable to me. I don't see them bragging about being the best or being the champs or anything like that. You almost forget that they won it all last year. The "just a 3 point shooter" tag some have tried to offer up does not apply to either of them. The whole team plays unselfish basketball and good defense. I find myself really appreciating bench guys like Shaun Livingston and Mo Speights. Steve Kerr is great too. Draymond Green is the only player I could see some disliking but even he isn't so bad...especially for a Sparty.

Nothing is for sure, but I like the Warriors chances to get the record. They also are getting Andre Iguodala back by the playoffs which could be huge if only for his Lebron defense assuming they both make it that far. It's very hard to see the Warriors losing 4 out of 7 games to a team especially when one of those will have to be at their place.

Steph Curry is very popular here in NC and I certainly love watching him play. He is a pretty ordinary-looking guy who develops super powers when he steps on the BB court. In constrast, King James looks like a physical freak.

I suspect GS will pick up one more loss.

GO Warriors!

already said they're resting for the GSW games means that they already have the record. Only other game I see them losing? Minnesota. It won't happen but that has to be the best chance just because of the young talent.

I was in Ann Arbor during the Bad Boys era, and in Chicago during the Bulls' run. To me, this Warriors team is more fun to watch than either.

MJ was the greatest player, and my heart is still with the Pistons, but the Warriors are just incredible together. Amazing chemistry, play hard every night, unselfish, play defense, and Curry is spectacular.

I suppose a non-fan could dislike Curry's shimmy celebration or Draymond's emotion, but watching them every night, you can tell that emotion is what drives them.

Draymond Green is a physical freak like Dennis Rodman - different skills, but there's simply no one else like him. Boundless energy, powerful, athletically gifted, and more "want it" than anyone in the league. Kills me to say that about a Sparty, but facts are facts.

Steph and Klay complement each other perfectly, Iguodala (when healthy) is a great veteran leader, and they have fantastic role players in Barbosa and Barnes, Bogut, Livingston, Speights, even Varejao, Rush and Clark.

They are the Platonic ideal of the Beilein system.
