While we are unable to give carefree upvotes, let us rejoice that it is Friday, Michigan Football is rapidly approaching and that alcohol is abundantly available in today's society. On tap for me? My kids bday party and a keg of Oberon.
OT - Friday Posbang (kind of?) - what are you drinking thread
so I'll be brief: Quitting my current job, starting a new job on Monday, nothing really for me to do today so I'm just watching the clock tick away. (NEED MOAR CONTENT, PLZ!) And on a weekend that I desperately need some rest, my wife has planned all sorts of things for us to do. So, I'm drinking coffee and switching to beer as soon as the day is over. Black Crown most likely. Ugh.
Quitting my job as well. Today is my last day! It is also beer friday in the office so I get to enjoy a few cold ones starting at 2 o'clock. As soon as I get out of work, I will be making the 4 hour drive from Boulder to Gunnison, CO where I will be going back to school in the fall to earn another Bachelor's degree.
brings back memories. We used to fly into Denver, then get on a Ritchie Valens type plane and fly to Gunnison, and on to Crested Butte to downhill for a week. Awesome stuff. I wonder if Crested Butte Brewery still has Red Lady Ale? Good stuff, but it's been 16 years or so.
Just quit my job and am starting a new one on Monday as well. I am right there with you on the NEED MOAR CONTENT part.
As far as drinking goes, it is only 11:15 and there is a bottle of Jack staring at me, tempting me. Let's see how long I can resist....
to each of you, my Michigan brothers, to good luck starting your new career paths.
But I'd say you only need to resist until noon, then all bets are off.
Jared Wangler just "quit" Penn State. This is totally catching on! Wait....why are we already drinking??
I'm in a similar boat: yesterday was my last day. Now I've got a week (and change) off before starting my new gig a week from Monday. It's only 10 am out here, and I have to go look at apartments, so coffee is the drink of choice. Later it will be a growler from TBD (whichever brewery catches my attention as I'm running errands today).
Mother Earth tap takeover.
11:20??? Betty Ford on line 2... But there will be Stellas in the not-too-distant future.
I'm trying you guys.
Brian - wasn't meant as a jab/bitching. Just keepin the Posbangs alive through the transition.
Leaving this afternoon for an Alaskan cruise... Not exactly sure what to expect, but I am pretty excited anyway....
Might have a Founder's Dirty Bastard before I head out.
Great time of year for it, I believe the Salmon are running? not sure, but if you have an opportunity to get in some fishing, its a great time. And if you're in Anchorage at all, check out Humpy's Alehouse. Great beer and the fish tacos are incredible. (no pun intended).
I will be spending the night in Anchorage tonight actually, and I also have a fishing charter lined up for Wednesday I believe haha...
I will definitely try to check out Humpy's tonight!
If you have time, and are able to make unilateral decisions, you can always check out ABC. :-)
Alaska is the promised land for me. Do me a favor and eat some fresh salmon. I'll enjoy it vicariously. We took an Alaskan cruise a couple years ago and since then our computer puked and we lost all our pictures from the trip. I have 3 pictures from the port and that's it.
You should also check out Moose's Tooth pizza in Anchorage. Amazing pizza and great beer which they brew themselves. You can even get it to go in growlers.
Far and I've been on a few. You will be so relaxed by looking at the scenery it's crazy. Have fun
Half Decaf - it's a craaaaazy morning...
But I will be going to a Quaker Steak & Lube wing buffett for lunch. Later on, I'll hit up a killer happy hour where I'll likely get thundered on Rogue Dead Guy Ale. After that, it's a cab home to wifey!
It's 10:25 here in Chicago, and I try not to drink before Noon..Eastern Standard Time.
That being said, I have a mix and match of Goose Island to sip on tonight as I cheer on my almighty CHICAGO BEARS. Da Coach would approve.
At the very least, we can posbang the OP while the Dear Leader fixes our problem
If Brain is Dear Leader, are we Fellow MGoTravelers?
Coffee, dreaming of when it turns to Oberon.
That is a brilliant idea! I think coffee and orange juice make a great duo in the morning. What if we started a mail campaign to try and get Bell's to create a new Oberon next year with an added layer of coffee flavor? It could be breakfast Oberon.
I was drinking it after midnight last night, so it counts for Friday!
A Snapple. And even though it says "shake before opening" I didn't do it... no one tells me what to do.
We have a rebel here!
Soju, smoked duck, haemul pajeon.
Holy Korean meal & drinking!
My parents like makgili and samgyupsal . And my dad wonders why he has to take Lipitor o.O
Drinking diet pepsi. Will have a margarita when I get home.
Soju + Coca Cola = Heaven
Soju + anything = blech. Always a bad time, usually accompanied by a searing headache and much regret.
His stories of 1, 2, or 3 (4?) soju bottle nights were terrific. He brought some back. Stuff sucks, but whadya want for a buck?
The last big party I went to that featured soju involved 2 girls fighting, one overdramatized 'overdose' attempt, blood in vomit (before I knew what gastritis was), and whipped cream.
And again, a horrible headache, and much regret the next morning.
something do I still get my valued Mgopoints? anyway - going to a BBQ later apparently with a Hawaiian theme so it will be Mai Tai's for me.
My wife and MiL are taking the boys to Palm Springs until Monday. Bad news: I don't get to go to Palm Springs. Good news: I get the weekend off. Not sure what I'm going to do, but nothing will play a pretty big role.
Going to The Greene Turtle with some friends and seeing who can complete the tap line. Meaning the bar has 20 different beers on tap, and we wanna see who can get the furthest. My Friday evening.
Wendy's iced tea. cause it is my lunchbreak and I'm actually contributing to society!
B&B and winery tours with the missus. Our last weekend alone before the kids return home from camp.
Right now I am drinking DayQuil. Later it will be DayQuil and vodka...I've heard it is great for the liver.
Welcome to the Blog.
is leaving the bar and suddenly interacting with the stone sober, during business hours, in the sunlight....always strange (and jarring). Welcome Carlos.
Be sexting you're hoes?
I'm out of town on a business trip this week, and I also lined up a blind date with a girl this evening. I have no idea what to expect, but that's part of the fun. The downside- even if things work out with this girl, I'll still live a few states away from her. Oh well, keeping my fingers crossed anyway...
I've never been on one, but thats gotta be a nervewracking thing. The MGoDrinkers are pulling for you! Hopefully you don't get Maizenblueball-s. Sorry, had to do it.
I'm at work, after all.
Off topic: I haven't been able to upload an avatar for many months...I get an error that says "...the pictures directory doesn't exist or is not writable." Anyone know what this means?
Here's what I want...it's the FSD girl - Lauren (in appropriate clothing).
I am on vacation back in Michigan so I will be making the rounds on Michigan beers. I know all of the staples, but is there something new anyone recommends that I should look out for?
of Michigan's current breweries. What part of the state will you be in?
I already have trips planned to Bell's and Datk Horse. Anything you recommend from them?
they're both damn good of course. I'm sure you've had Crooked Tree IPA from Dark Horse...it's pretty popular. Dark Horse taproom has a bazillion mug club mugs on the ceiling. It looks pretty cool.
Bell's will have more than a dozen on tap, so you'll probably want to do a flight. Can't go wrong with Bell's if you pick styles you like. There's a new brewery just opened in Kazoo called Boatyard Brewing Company. It's one of the few I haven't been to yet.
Also in Kazoo, Peninsula Brewpub is pretty good. It's more of a restaurant but the beer is very respectable, IMO. Just five or six blocks from Bells Eccentric Cafe.

So close to the start of the season I can taste it!!!
Working today and spending time with family tonight. Should be a good evening of drinking.
Hopped a flight in DC at 545 to fly to Houston for an interview and get back to DC at midnight. Can't wait to have a drink and already scouted out a place at the airport where I'll be able to have a drink later while waiting for my flight home....can't wait!
There better not be any sparkles in that maize-ish lettering. That would totally not be cool.
to comments indicating their worthiness I'll make it a real posbang for a few people in two or three hours. A couple restrictions apply, posters recommending their own comments will either get a short term point boost or a short term Bolivia stay, mods choice.
My second cup of coffee.
...So I'm drinking a coke now, but I may go after a Dr. Pepper in a bit if I'm feeling a little on the risque side.
As for tonight, I'll probably be drinking some sort of PG beverage. My wife is at 38 weeks pregnant, so any moment I could called in to duty, thus sobriety is a necessity. This kid hasn't even been born yet and she's seriously cutting into my drinking schedule.
gonna continue to vote in the same arbitrary way as usual.
--> Obligatory Kate Upton Friday POSbang photo <--
Sparkle with the glitter of a thousand stars. Trying to keep it classy since it's Spike's girl and all.
Water for now. Heading to the cottage as soon as I get this one last deadline met. A weekend of Coors Lights and lake time await.
Water than coors light. It's about the same
You are entitled to your opinion. I'll enjoy my time on the lake with some silver bullets. You do whatever it is you enjoy.
I like me some silver bullets every now and then.
Your taste is inadequate, and you will be judged for it! Are you enjoying it? Well then, I couldn't be happier for you... Enjoy the lake
Forcing myself to watch for the first time the 30 for 30: Catching Hell. As a Cubs fan, I still too hurt by that night. I don't blame Bartman, but the fragile mentality of the team. I still think What If. What if Moises caught that fly ball? What if the cubs went to the world series. Damn man Damn...
Just imagine being able to summon your own private beer copter drone in the Big House.
I took the day off so we could do some stuff for my son's birthday, which is actually tomorrow, but my wife works tomorrow. We took him up to his favorite place - Cranbrook Institute of Science - for a planetarium show and a peruse. I used to get taken there all the time as a kid when my parents couldn't answer the science questions, as well as the Detroit Science Center.
Tonight, my mother-in-law is taking the kids for a sleepover of sorts, so my wife and I have elected to use the time to grocery shop and return items to Old Navy for some reason - things that are difficult to do with the kids in tow sometimes. That, and hang out at a random bar like the old days.
Tomorrow and Sunday is probably going to be the semifinals of "The Great Basement Purge". If people didn't give us their crap and then pull out of the driveway before we had the opportunity to give it back, we wouldn't have to make 10 runs to the Salvation Army dropoff each year.
Far more college-kid-like then most of you classy folk. I guess II just dont really know my way around higer quality beer. Any reccomendations on stuff I could get my hands on in Mount Pleasant?
Oberon, 312 or Summertime both sound good right now, if you ever make your way to Indiana, Illinois or Wisconsin you have to get your hands on Gumballhead, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is always good, In Heat Wheat by Flying Dog is great for a day like today.
I found some Oberon down at the local supermarket. Had half of one and I'm sold. Great stuff. What exactly is a session beer? While we're at it, what is a growler? I've heard that mentioned quite a few times on these posbang threads.
Session beers can be a lot of different types, pilsners, low ABV IPA's, hefewizens, ect. but it means a beer with a relatively low ABV that you can drink for a while, as in drink for a "session". Obviously the craft brews won't taste a lot like Miller Lite, but you get the idea I'm sure. Lower ABV also usually means the beer is on the lower end of the complexity scale, so you're not going from drinking Franzia to a $300 Bordeoux palate wise.
A growler is a refillable container you can get from a brewery (usually a pretty big container). I have two half gallon growlers that the local place will fill for $8-10 straight out of the keg. I don't know what's available in Mount Pleasant, but doing a brewery tour is a really cool experience. I did the one at Goose Island's brewpub in Lincoln Park and it was really informative and came with a sampler flight of like six beers.
There are a lot of great resources online as well. When I first started drinking craft beer BeerAdvocate was my bible, they have a rating system both from the two founders and crowdsourced and are good place to start if you're trying something new.
Got football and a better knowledge and resources about beer. I know there is a brewery in Mount Pleasant somewhere, I'll have to check it out. Thank you very much, sir Justin.
I mentioned it above, but seriously, wait for a hot day outside (or just picture it if nature doesn't help) and crack open an In Heat Wheat by Flying Dog. I know I've bought their stuff in GR and A2, and it really is delicious and hits the spot to cool you off. Also it isn't the most expensive stuff you can buy, which is always nice.
A growler's just a half gallon glass container of beer filled from a tap. Plenty of places will fill yours with whatever they have on tap for like 10-15 bucks or less sometimes. A session beer has low ABV so you can, um, have a long drinking session and have a bunch. Should be easy to drink too. A good one is Founder's all day IPA.
Edit: Hmm. Suppose i should refresh my browser when i come back to my computer.
Founder's All Day is on my short list of beers to try. Maybe I should get a growler of it? I feel so technical....
Pints of everything from the UK. People mostly play darts which just seems so completely lame. Former MLB pitcher Jeff Suppan opened a bar/grille a few doors down from that. Would love to watch the Lions game but starts at 4:30 PST. (live outside L.A.)
Watching UM games as early as 9 AM took some getting used to but now I love it.
Some grilling and some...*sigh*...King Cobra. Don't judge me.
How's that king cobra headache treatin' ya?
Drinking some Arcadia Whitson( similar to Oberon) and about to go to the Lil Wayne/T.I./ 2 Chains concert at the Joe.
anyone really bored/ interested omameh played last night (replay on nfl network now) for the 49ers. #66 at right tackle
Picked up three bombers of Drunk Monk from Three Floyd's this afternoon. It's a hefeweizen that they haven't brewed in three years and I'm excited to try it. Also have a Flossmoor Station bomber of Magwitch, 1800's style English barrel aged IPA. Watching Bears before beers but beers are soon.
For those of you who live in the RTP area, there's a Founders takeover next Saturday at Sams in Durham. Doom, KBS (2012), Kaiser Curmudgeon, Backwoods Bastard (2011), Mango con Magnifico, Devil Dancer (2012), et al all on tap. Yeah so if you're missing the best of the Mitten . . . don't say you weren't notified.
Alice in Chains (rip Layne) and pounding down Yuenglings imported from somewhere east of here.
