OT - fantasy football first pick advice
McCoy went first in our draft, followed by Manning and then I had 3rd and took Calvin..in a PPR league..I was able to get Lacy with my second pick so I feel I got a steal there.
How the hell did Lacy fall that far? You guys play in a 5 man league?
No kidding. If you guys need someone next year. I'm in!
I can see that happening in some leagues. I was in a league last year where a lot of guys took a qb first, myself included. It all depends on how your league is set up. This league was set up where you could shuffle your lineup to where you can have 3 wr/1rb, or vice versa. I felt in a league like that, you can wait to get a decent RB later on depending on your strategy. I went with a QB, then heavy with WR.
I've been doing this for awhile and in leagues with newer or less knowledgable managers you will see what I call 'draft momentum'. If someone sees Payton Manning go second then suddenly people start thinking they will need to grab a QB before they miss out on the one they want. Next thing you know 8 of 12 picks are for QBs. My older leagues don't sway far from what you expect based on provided rankings. People that have played awhile seem to stick more to there own picking strategy rather than be influenced by a pick made out of the perceived order.
i have often waited to grab a QB, even very late. then i take two. so i could end up with the #11 and #13 QB, but then i start the guy with the best match-up that week. it's almost like having a top 5 QB.
and it's worked. one year i had favre (vikings) and eli manning. they easily combined for top 5 QB stats.
I guess I should have mentioned it was an 8 man league. We are just doing it with the guys in our office that have any knowledge of football. To my surprise not many have a clue! In reality Lacy was the 14th overall pick, which is about right.
of OT or not OT. We're offiically into non-OT season, so FFL is most likely not going to fly very long. My suggestion, go with AP. Orange peanut?
An orange peanut? Wow, an orange peanut, for me? Well, I accept you.
Can't go wrong with McCoy or Charles so whatever your preference is. I give the
Slight edge to McCoy but not by much
Too much value with Shady to pass up on him. I personally don't trust Alex Smith to help open up the offense for Charles.
McCoy. Sproles may steal a few catches, but the Eagles will run the most plays in the league (again) by far. More plays run=more opportunity for points. And his OL is much less frightening than KC's.
Fun fact: the top scoring fantasy player hasn't done it in back to back years since Ladanian Tomlinson in 07/08. Charles was the top scorer last year...
I would go with McCoy. Charles scares me with his injuries, and you are already aware of the shaky o-line situation in KC. AP is the best RB when healthy, and might be worth a #1 overall pick if the Vikings can get their pass game going. It's tough having the first pick, but I would say AP or Shady would be your best bets.
I'd pick McCoy as Chip's offense is gonna put numbers up this year. Can't really go too wrong with the first pick. I'm cursed with the last pick this year so not sure what I'm going to do besides value based drafting best available..
I don't know how to play fantasy football but I want to learn. What is a good way or can some one break it down for me.
Thank you I know how to use google. I am just not sure of the best place to start.
But that was funny.
is with a bunch of friends. So many websites will help you create a league, its pretty easy. CBSports.com, ESPN.com, Foxsports.com....I've been in leagues sponsored by all of them. And you can set up an auto draft if you want. Get enough guys together to sign up, have one guy be the league commissioner and just go do it. You'll get the fever and in a few years, you'll be playing in three leagues, having live drafts and paying more attention to the NFL than you ever expected. You'll live, breathe and eat football, your friends will admire you, your wife will mock you, and soon you'll be....
You know what...nevermind. Don't even get started.
Nice to see you back on the boards, Mr. Smith. Skip to 2:23. My embed at time skills are turrible today.
Sorry I couldn't help myself. It's something my pals and I do to eachother almost any time a text messaget gets sent asking a question. But seriously, It's all about figuring out how players are scored in that partifular league and finding where there's value.
For example in my league with college friends, QB's get 6 points for TD's vs. 4 in most standard leagues. It's also a PPR (points per reception) so WR's are very valuable. RB's still are valuable if they get catches but the average back, not so much in our league. A QB with a good game can win the week for you by himself.
Seriously, see if you can get a late first round and a third round from some McCoy slappy.
Matt Forte. Unless it is also a 6pt TD pass league. In that case, Drew Brees.
McCoy. RB's value is based on their workload more so than their ability. Charles may be the most explosive RB in the draft but McCoy should get the rock more, making him a more valuable pick.
Another thing: I think last year was one of the very few times Charles has made it through an entire NFL season. McCoy is more durable.
And another thing: Only ONCE has a RB repeated as the top RB in fantasy football since this circus has started (Ladainian Tomlinson).
League had Charles as #1. Dude who choose him didn't even hesitate.
and I got McCoy. AP went 1, Charles 2. I picked Dez Bryant in the 2nd round and stole Eddie Lacy in the 3rd round (19th overall). 8 man PPR league.
I can only imagine 8 person league teams would look stackkkked in comparison to 10 and 12 person leagues
Top 3 picks are really interchangeable. Shitty year to have the top pick (though all years are shitty for the top pick). I'd go with Shady if I had to chopse
Anyone else listen to satellite radio xm 87- the fantasy sports channel. That's all I've listened to for the past month in my car! The running with MJD show sucks, though.
We had a guy with 3rd overall pick go with... Joique Bell. Then, GREG OLSEN, and then Russel Wilson. He ended up with 3 TEs, and 2 kickers.
I play him week 1, if I lose...
I'm not too worried about McCoy's situation, but I tend to go for the most "sure thing" type of pick, so I would go AP.
Also, not to jack this thread, but the guy with the second overall pick took McCoy and then traded him to me 4 days later for Antonio Brown. lol
Gotta go with the original poster on this one. Great cinematography, realistic football scenes and a good cast.
Pssssst. Wrong thread bud.
He is as close to a sure thing as you get this year at RB. He has shown he can produce year after year. The other two can't say that.
McCoy and Charles are still great picks, but anything but AP with #1 is wrong.
I would go McCoy. He is just such a fantasy beast and I think charles has the slight disadvantage because of his OLine. But I would even pick Charles over AP this year because he averaged around 30 fantasy points every game last year. Better option in a PPR league
I have first pick in a non PPR, so I am going with AP. McCoy and Charles might have more upside, but as others have said, AP being good is one the surest things in sports. McCoy is a gamble that could pay off huge, but can Chip Kelly continue his offensive success to the degree he had in his first season? I'm a Kelly believer, but some of those numbers seem unsustainable as defenses adjust. Charles is just an injury red flag. That said, in a PPR, I'd probably have to go with McCoy.
In a non-PPR I could see taking AP but McCoy catches the ball and does things like this with it. Charles is a great pick too, just worried the Chief's will disappoint this year and Alex Smith is the worst starting QB in the NFL.
