OT: East Coast Storm of the Century...of 2015

Submitted by gopoohgo on

Good luck NY and Boston Wolverines!

Us in the DC area are only getting grazed; 2-4" laugh

For those still in Michigan; I95 corridor from NYC to Boston is looking at anywhere from 20-30" of snow from early Monday to Tuesday morning.

...however, much of SoCal is in a panic right now....meteorologists expect temps to drop into the 60's and for the area to be hit with light drizzle. Time to bunker down out here.

Weather like this is no good for us hopeful on Clark to the good guys. He just got done with a trip to sunny Cali and now is welcomed back home with this. But then again... Harbaugh!

Same goes for New Hampshire--college football can't hold a candle to Red Sox, Pats, Bruins, Celtics, and even minor league hockey.

Snow days seem to be getting more common, which I think is true just about everywhere.

College football talk in Vermont is also like college football talk on New York City sports talk radio -- almost never happens.

Since the University of Vermont dropped its football program after the 1974 season, and there are so few FBS football programs in the northeast, for those who live in the northeast and crave college football talk, we have to come to places like this. And that's okay.

As for football in Germany, well, there's this:

Grafton, VT in the house.....

Well, thats only sorta true.

I do have a house in Grafton.  But I will not enjoy the lovely VT snow scene tomorrow, as I will be holed up in my NY apartment.  NYC will be pretty for an hour - before the slush ensues - even as all around me are going insane.....

And between the thriving metropolis of Grafton, VT and the little town of Manhattan, if it weren't for MGoBlog (where, yes, I am predominately a lurker) I would never get my college football fix....

So I live in NYC and work at a major national news network.  I start work at 3pm tomorrow.  I'm supposed to leave at 11p, but my relief lives in western NJ, so it's iffy on whether I get out of here.  In addition, I'm the only one in my department who lives in Manhattan (one other guy lives in Brooklyn, the rest Long Island or NJ) so when weather hits, I'm the likely fallback option.

But who cares!  Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

It already started.  The guy who works my shift on Tuesday (one of my off days) said he likely won't make it in & will need me to cover.

At least it looks like NYC is preparing for this.

Mid-40's.  In January.  Yikes!  That's hot!

The pattern developing over the next couple of weeks is very much like all last year.  Highly amplified jet stream with record hot out west, record cold in the east.  It does look like the worst of the cold will stay east of the great lakes through the period however.

be careful and I hope u guys keep your electricity. As a fellow Michigander we've got to be pretty satisfied this winter. there's really only about two months to go til April and we've been fortunate. don't need to remind anybody I am sure but last year at this time we were 3 solid months deep into getting our asses kicked by snow and ridiculously cold temperatures. Good luck, friends to the East.

I remember when I lived in Va and one single solitary snow flake was spotted there was a snow day. Now I live in Michigan and we have like 2000 plows...totally ruins the fun of snow

I'm in Danbury, CT and this probably means work will be deserted on Tuesday. Good thing I've been at the office for 9 hours so far today...bleh.

I wish the interview and hiring processes moved just a bit faster so I can finally move to southern California.

Please, please, please send that storm back here to the Kalamazoo area where it will be loved and appreciated. Last winter was the best since 1978 and I had a riot playing in it. This winter has been nothing but a letdown. You gotta enjoy and embrace this stuff, you only live once.

I lived in New Hampshire and worked in Boston in the the winter of 87-88, we got 18" and that shut the whole area down for three days, this is supposed to be bigger yet.

Forecast right now calls for ~20 inches and 40 mph winds Monday night into Tuesday. That's some fierce wind. Fuck work, that might make it tough to go outside and have fun in all that snow with a four year old. Best I can hope for it that we get a nice snow drift in the backyard and I can teach him to jump off the deck into a big pile of snow.

Connecticut here.  Just brought home a new 28" 2-stage blower and ready for action.  This is going to be intense.  50 MPH winds to go with the 20-30 inches.

should be fun.   Two years ago when we had 34" of snow in New Haven, my son ended up needing emergency surgey for a leg infection.  Surgeon had to get a ride tto the hospital from the police and the anesthesiologist walked in from two miles away.  Makes a dad grateful.

Man I hate the weather here in Boston. The thing the sucks is not the winters (oh, they're bad and long, don't get me wrong) but the fact that it seems like whatever summer we have somehow manages to serve up 85+ degree temperatures and bad humidity all the time.
