The Devil wend down to Georgia song came out in 1979. I was in the 10th grade and that one song seem to be very popular, even getting play on rock radio stations. RIP Charlie!
I was in 2nd grade and everyone I knew was singing that song. It was a true crossover hit.
Willie Nelson called Charlie his best friend, and named his bar restaurant after him on Maui. The little hippie town called PAIA is known for, among other things, incredible celebrity poker games, and plenty of Cannabis.

I prefer Uneasy Rider (which was my intro to CDB).
Same here.
I still have that 45, hadn't spun it on my turntable in decades until I heard today of Charlie's passing, but it still sounds great, scratches and all.
RIP CD
There are so many songs from Charlie Daniels that never made the radio, but are really great songs! The man told an effortless story in his songs better than most every other song writer/singer can ever hope to match.
RIP, Charlie. And Lucifer, watch your ass you POS...
Actually it should be Lucifer, watch your ass you SOB.
When the CDB was their southern rock thing, e.g. Fire on the Mountain, High lonesome, and Nightrider, they were as good as anyone this side of the Allman Brothers. He was a underrated guitarist. RIP, Charlie.
2 men got me into country music a long, long time ago. George Strait and Charlie Daniels. This one hurts a little more than the usual (person x passes away).
There is no one to equal these talents we are losing.
Sad he is never going to find out what happened in Benghazi.
"...And on certain nights if the moon is right
And you're down by the dark footpath
You can hear three young men screaming
And you can hear that old man laugh."
- Legend of Wooley Swamp
notable gems from charlie daniels include "Devil Went Down to Georgia", this string of tweets every morning:
and lastly this one
RIP
I am confused about that last tweet about cotton picking. Can you explain please?
"To folks who look for a racist comment in every sentence. I picked cotton myself. Learned a lot about life from manual labor. You should try it,"
- Charlie Daniels, 2016.
Google is your friend.
Thanks for the enlightening response. Do consider the difference between voluntary (most probably since 1865) and involuntary labor in cotton fields.
I agree a lot of us would benefit from doing farm work.
It's interesting how his personality turned right around the time Fox News appeared.
1996?
Try "In America" in 1980.
"And if the Russians don't believe that
They can all go straight to hell"
Fake news from Putin.
Loved his work, especially with the Marshall Tucker Band.
RIP, Charlie.
