OT: Brad Ausmus Has Entered the Transfer Portal
After just one season as the Angels' manager, the former Tigers skipper was fired today. LINK.

I learned that he was the Angels manager this season.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:06 PM ^
I learned he was the Angels’ manager just now! Good for him I guess
September 30th, 2019 at 2:51 PM ^
The Angels should fire Ausmus twice, just like Chris Ash was yesterday by Rutger.
September 30th, 2019 at 2:53 PM ^
Huh. I wondered what that guy was up to...
September 30th, 2019 at 2:56 PM ^
Apparently Maddon used to work in the Angels org so they must think they have a shot at getting him to come back.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
I’m so confused as to why:
- The Angels would ever hire Ausmus (I knew they had, it just still confounds)
- The Cubs would fire the manager that broke the 80+ year WS drought as if they’re suddenly entitled to a banner every season
Maddon is a fine manager. Cubs will probably regret this.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:06 PM ^
I don't get the Cubs move either. The Cubs have the 3rd highest winning percentage in the MLB since Maddon was hired. He took them to 4 straight playoffs and won the WS after over a 100 year drought. The MLB playoffs are pretty much a crap shoot similar to the Stanley Cup Playoffs so them feeling entitled to constant WS success after 100 years of ineptitude does seem like a decision lacking in common sense.

As a Michigan fan, I find it simply astounding that an organization would expect continued success at the highest level despite decades of underachievement.

Comparing the Mets' brand to Michigan's lmfao get the fuck out of here.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:26 PM ^
Maddon wasn't fired, his contract is up and neither party is interested in renewing. It's somewhat known that he disagrees with the Ricketts' political leanings and actions and just wanted to move on.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:48 PM ^
A great example of why you should never mix politics and business. In what rationale world would the Cubs let the manager go who broke the longest professional sports championship drought in American sports.
September 30th, 2019 at 10:34 PM ^
Reading is hard. He just finished writing that Maddon wasn't fired.

Theo Epstein wants success to be defined by his photograph..........not by anyone he has the power to hire or fire.
September 30th, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
Theo is looking at what his former team did. Fire WS winner Francona, and then win another with his replacement.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:00 PM ^
I'm sure Joe Maddon is a part of it and all...but Brad Ausmus sucks as a manager
September 30th, 2019 at 3:03 PM ^
Not according to Brad, he thinks he's great.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:38 PM ^
He went to an Ivy League school did you know that because he'll tell you
September 30th, 2019 at 3:00 PM ^
Go figure.......shitty manager is still shitty
September 30th, 2019 at 3:02 PM ^
Baseball loves its "good ole boys retreads". I am sure he will get some high paying assistant bench manager job even though he is as worthless as a bent dick...
September 30th, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
Whatever, what'd you last like 20 seconds with Stacey? whatever the heck her name was.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:23 PM ^
"Stacey I gotta go."
September 30th, 2019 at 6:15 PM ^
Hey, you just don’t know Damone.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
his resume was paper thin when the Tigers hired him, just slightly thicker when the A's did.
Edit.... Angels.

Angels

It's pretty amazing . I remember when he was still the Tigers manager a few years back, and Buster Onley was getting interviewed on a local radio show and he said how "Believe it or not, if the Tigers fired Brad Ausmus, he'd find a job very quickly as he's very well respected in the baseball community". The host, along with probably a lot of the listeners, just chuckled at Onley's statement at the time...
September 30th, 2019 at 3:17 PM ^
Tigers should have done that after his 2nd season.
September 30th, 2019 at 9:56 PM ^
Should've done it after his 2nd month on the job.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
So strange. Such a bright, up-and-coming baseball mind. Imagine if he had a few MVPs on his roster, or perhaps a Cy Young winner.
September 30th, 2019 at 5:54 PM ^
Imagine what he could’ve done with an MVP and FOUR Cy Young winners!
Wait a second...
September 30th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
Feel kinda bad for him but you can't really fault the Angels for wanting to take a shot at getting Maddon
September 30th, 2019 at 3:39 PM ^
I don't root for a guy to lose his job, but it always pissed me off what an asshole he was to the public in Detroit every time his shitty managing got questioned.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:40 PM ^
I hear the Minnesota Nighthawks are hiring.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:45 PM ^
If you hire and fire a manager within one year, you should lose your job. Unless there are some circumstances that were impossible to predict when you hired him. I don’t know what those would be, but I’m sure it’s possible.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:50 PM ^
Joe Maddon coming free...
September 30th, 2019 at 4:04 PM ^
Exactly, this is all about Maddon. Pujols only has 2 years left on that awful contract. The Angels should be able to get better real quick as long as Trout stays at the top of his game.
September 30th, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
Plus Upton’s contract isn’t exactly a steal. The Japanese player (ohtani idk) is hyped up pretty good but in realty he’s an overpriced DH that might someday pitch.
At least they get some production from those guys though, as opposed to Miggy where we get a DH with no power. For like 5 more years!
September 30th, 2019 at 7:55 PM ^
If I’m Madden, I’d question going there. They were dumb enough to hire Ausmus. How do you have faith they’ll be able to put together a great roster?
September 30th, 2019 at 4:04 PM ^
You know, when the Angels hired him, I asked myself, "Why would you do that when you saw how it went down here in Detroit?"
Well, no point in asking myself this anymore.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:25 PM ^
Thread title +1
September 30th, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
Brad Ausmus's career highlight was catching the very last pitch ever thrown at Tiger Stadium.
He should've just quit the game cold turkey then.
September 30th, 2019 at 5:47 PM ^
Brad Ausmus had Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, David Price, and Rick Porcello on the same pitching staff and didn't win a playoff game.
The fact that another team ever gave him a chance to manage is mind blowing.
September 30th, 2019 at 6:31 PM ^
You loved Brad. And then you totaled him.
September 30th, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
plus 1 just for the snark. Love the title
September 30th, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
Go Rays!!!!
October 1st, 2019 at 7:11 AM ^
The only thing the Angels didn't get right was not firing the GM that hired Ausmus. Who in their right mind could look at the job he did in Detroit and say he did a good job and was worth running their ball club. The guy was loaded with talent in Detroit and found a way to screw it up. Never saw the a less engaged manager. My only picture of him was sitting with his feet on the rail spitting between his teeth watching the game like a disinterested fan.

this is not the same thing, even metaphorically speaking, as the transfer portal. As such, I have downvoted you.
