Submitted by Lakeyale13 on November 20th, 2023 at 6:20 PM

We are in the thick of all the heavy hitter releases for 2023.  What are you hunting for!?  What bottles have you snagged!? How does your state handle super allocated stuff?  Discuss!!!!

I got a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Strength at the distillery maybe a month ago.

I used to live in Ohio, and despite being filled with the world's worst fans it's a fantastic place to hunt bourbon if you're willing to wait in line. I live in Pennsylvania now and that's in a race to the bottom with Utah as the worst state in the union to buy alcohol.

Did some good hunting in Japan!  Was there last month:

3x Blanton's Takara Gold

1x Blanton's Takara Red

1x Blanton's Takara Black

1x Four Roses Super Premium

1x Okayama Single Malt Triple Cask

Locally just grabbed a bottle of Bardstown Single Barrel Holiday Market Store Pick.

Happy Hunting!

You guys are killin’ it!

Secondary market for Weller’s 12 750ml

is $279.  I’m sitting on 1.75 ml from years ago saving for special occasions.  More reasonable is being turned onto WhistlePig Piggyback bourbon 🥃 for <$60.  Surprisingly great stuff.  Still loving Garrison Bros. original straight bourbon

If you all can find anything in Bardstown Bourbon's Origins series, they're all incredible.  Racking up a bunch of awards and really well priced.

BuffalowTrace has turned off a lot of bourbon people, esp fans of their own.  I live in NKY about an hour from and I couldn’t ever make it for the daily release before it was sold out.  It just turned off so many people going to the distillery.  I’ve heard they are getting better but a lot of friends just started drinking other bourbons and not trying to chase Blanton’s or Eagle Rare….   Good luck ever finding a Weller 12..

They’re still easy to find out west.

I was in a liquor store in a part of Idaho that may as well have been Canada that had three 1.75’s of Buffalo Trace just gathering dust.  Told the clerk if he was smart he would buy it and then resell on the open market.  He looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about.

My mom loves Buffalo Trace and likes how it’s cheap and easy to find.  She lives in rural Nevada.  I am beyond jealous(of the ease of finding bourbon, love living in Nashville).

You know, hunting bourbon has become like fishing. When you find a good hole, you don't tell anybody about where you are fishing. I used to tell everybody about finding BT or Eagle Rare. In fact, I scored a 1.75L bottle of Eagle Rare in Ann Arbor this year, for $85.  Now, I will never tell you where, because when I used to tell everybody how good these bourbons are, all of a sudden they got hot and just disappeared.  Weller, I have NEVER seen a bottle in the field. I've taken a liking to Penelope 4 grain, I am sure that will go missing soon enough.

Bottom line is, I've learned to like other fish. But I will not tell you where I've caught them. Enjoy your hunts, gentlemen. When you get lucky, just say thanks for the blessings!
