OT - Best non Michigan gift you received this year.

Submitted by Honest Abe on
I figured we could use something else to talk about after reading that most recent post (holy shit). Anyways, my best non UofM gift was Ron White tickets for 2/24 at Michigan Theater. I have been warned about going to the theater, but Ron White is hilarious and it should be a good time. What did you guys get?

Carlisle Ford Nationals for the show’s 3 day run from June 1-3.  It is advertised as “the largest and most thrilling all-Ford event in the world,” and it includes (1) a showcase of over 3,000 vehicles; (2) indoor displays of concepts, customs and historically-significant cars and trucks; (3) test drives; and (4) the chance to buy or trade at a swap meet, a car corral and an auto parts sales event.  Can’t wait!  (And can’t believe my wife – who does not appreciate my car addiction – bought us tickets for all three days!)

will give you just enough time to figure out where you want to go when you go back !   Too many choices for a single weekend.    However - do go to a Broadway show.  It is quite amazing ... and let you wife pick the show (no charge for the tip).  Enjoy.   Love my trips to NYC  !!  PS - wouldn't ever want to live there .

Go Blue!

I got ZERO Michigan gifts this year, then every single person who buys me gifts say, "you're so hard to buy for"

EARTH TO MY FAMILY, BUY ME ONE OF THESE EVERY YEAR!

Or for the ladies out there, get a rotation down. Michigan sweater one year, Red Wings the next, Lions after that, Tigers after that, back to Michigan (but this time the NY6 Bowl Game official apparal). Mix in Hockey and/or Basketball.

Anyways, we got a much needed carpet cleaner, I got a bunch of standard clothing items (no shit, a nice pair of wool socks are superb), a Tesla coil lighter was neat, some card/board/drinking games, and a nice wooden watch.

Best gift is a tie between the used 2014 NCAA Football game I bought myself and a 55" Samsung TV I won in my work raffle.

My wife gave me a Playstation 4.

I haven't owned a console video game system since selling my old PS2 at a garage sale in 2011.

I managed to successfully connect the thing last night.  After playing the Star Wars game it came with for about ten minutes, I decided that I simply do not have enough fingers for the modern console games and turned it off (i.e., put it in low-power mode, since actually turning the thing off no longer appears to be an option).

Perhaps I will try again one of these days.

Multiple things. I really don't need stuff, so personal things matter more . . .

  • My daughter in the Navy gave me a bronze statue of a sailor, a "coin" commemorating her ship, DDG87 Destroyer Mason, and a simple Navy stocking hat. Good reminders of her when she is away at sea.
  • My son gave me a coffee mug he made in ceramics class, along with a pound of good coffee. This may be the last of that kind of gift. It means more now, that he took the time when 16 to do this (than when everyone did craft projects as a kid.)
  • I was able to give him a Nike Michigan hoodie, which he has worn multiple times. And he just asked for thumbtacks to put his Denard jersey, which he's outgrown, up on his bedroom wall.

The best non-Michigan gift was a gift that I was able to use immediately as it so fucking cold in the Detroit area at the moment. My wife got me two Arctic fleeces from Croft & Barrow - Michigan colors, sort of - and I had to wear one all day today at work (I fooloishly went in to accomplish a couple things despite saying I would not) because it was FREEZING in the building.

barn one year.  i thought for sure they were going to start bombing the cattle, but they were good with it.   for those unfamiliar with a trebuchet its kind of like a more-complicated catapult.  picture here:

Cordless drills are the way to go. I use a 6" Nils but the 8" is a better choice if you chase toothy fish. If you want a 10" then propane is the best option. But cordless is so nice. Good luck, I love ice fishing. K drills are popular but they look like a cheap piece of junk to me. I could be wrong, just my impression.

That's funny.  Took my daughters out to lunch at a nice restaurant today which happens to serve a great potato salad with the swordfish tacos she ordered.  I was talking about tater salad and here Ron White is coming to Michigan.  Enjoy.  Seems like a pretty funny guy imho.

16 yr old daughter sewed stockings after school. Filled those stockings with items bought with her own money and also bought many other presents with her own money. We opened gifts Xmas eve. This kid put the gifts and stockings under the tree at 1am so that when we got up there was a whole round of gifts that we had no idea where they came from. One gift was a calendar with family pictures both new and old as the subject. Wife loved it so much. Easily the best gift I have ever gotten.
