It's funny but awful at the same time.

This is a good example why institutions, teams, and coaches need to make sure they get official and verified accounts on social media

No Way! A fan of Alabama did something insanely stupid that demonstrates just how ridiculously out of proportion they take their collegiate fandom?

I mean I guess it's not THAT bad. It's not like they shot family member over making jokes about losing or something insane like that.

Among the pending replies to the Deadspin story is the first question which might naturally come to mind here:

Alabama fans have internet access? Who allowed that?

Kudos to LSU for squashing that one rather promptly. As Magnus points out above, "people are dum"...indeed, so "dum" sometimes that it isn't worth the "b" at the end.

If this is a Bama fan, the NCAA could impose a penalty on Bama (not likely, but possible). The parallel here would be a team booster contacting recruits via Twitter, which I assume is not okay and would be punished (more likely at least). I'm not sure where the booster vs casual fan line is, but the same rules should apply at some level.

IIRC, a person becomes a booster as soon as they buy tickets to a single game or makes any contribution to the school's athletics department.  I think that even membership to an alumni association can qualify if the association promotes athletics.

A lifetime ban? Are you off your rocker? That's creative. Unethical, but creative. Hell, I'd like to see Bama give him season tickets.

Because we all knew this was coming, and it's not going to stop either. I hope this brings awareness to all Michigan fans and we're never in this same boat.

I don't care how clever or smart you are...it's just stupid, unnecessary and something no one should be doing.

This looks terrible on so many levels and can cause way more harm than good. In fact, no good can ever come of it.

I'm making it seem like a big deal, but in the end...just don't be "that guy." It's that simple, it's not complicated.

Unless of course, you're a fan in the SEC.
