Thank you.

Never in my life would have I thought I'd see Cobo hall turned into a fucking field hospital.
This is insane.

This is basically World War III, in terms of the demands this is going to place upon our entire society. It's just a very different enemy this time.

They should use Ford Field since it’s used to dealing with disasters.

They were afraid many losses would occur there. For covid treatment, we need some luck and a winning streak.

Holy Shit.
Also for some Michiganders who may have moved away and are unaware of the name change. TCF Center is the former Cobo Hall.
March 28th, 2020 at 10:56 PM ^
It's Cobo Hall.
And Pine Knob is still Pine Knob.
/get off my lawn. At least 6 feet away please.

To be fair, the name change wasn't simply a corporate sell-out, Cobo was a pretty racist guy who lots of Detroiters were not happy to have such a prominent building named after.

Name one Detroit mayor that wasn't a racist.

Jerome Cavanagh. But point taken.
How about let's not have a major building, especially in a majority black city, named after someone who came into office on a campaign that promised to end the "Negro invasion"?

I still call it the Sears Tower. Fuck Willis.
Sometime soon, younger people won't even know what Sears is / was.

Thanks, I was wondering. The Lions were still using the Silverdome the last time I was visiting the Detroit area on a regular basis.

Can't imagine any scenario baseball is happening at Comerica this summer. Or really any large event in metro Detroit through late summer, at the earliest.
Of course, this is the least of the worries.

Too bad they started demolishing The Palace. That might have come in handy.
March 29th, 2020 at 12:47 AM ^
Yeah, talk about brutal timing.
March 29th, 2020 at 12:14 PM ^
Thought the same a couple weeks ago when I saw a picture of an arena in China set up as a hospital.

On the plus side, NASCAR is still scheduled to return on May 9 at Martinsville Speedway (Ridgeway, VA).
They're scheduled to make their first appearance at Michigan International Speedway (Brooklyn, MI) on June 7.

My least favorite form of motorsport.
But, if done without fans, racing seems like it could maintain social distance with fewer adjustments than most other events.
Not really with all the necessary pit crew members packed together in pit lane.
Like hockey, its a completely different experience when you're there, watching it in person. In a previous life, I had tickets for each race at Martinsville, Richmond, Bristol, and Darlington, and I've also been to Charlotte. In person, everything is amplified like the other sports are, but it's a better experience live than most other sports. Especially if you pick one driver to follow and use headphones to listen to it all (spotters, crew chief, driver, and NASCAR control comms). You'd come away with a far better appreciation for it, if nothing else. TV just doesn't do it justice because there is so much going on outside of the cameras view that you never would think is happening.
Not trying to convert you - I haven't watched a race in 15 years! LOL!! But I'll agree with others, there is no way to race safely (ie: without large groups closely working together, and closely working on separate teams) with all that goes on behind the scenes.
Should have locked down the ports of entry in Feb. And we know what card played too often doomed that move.
Now we have people hooping in cars driving all over the country. Irresponsible and sinful.
It was here, and spreading, in January. But don't let that deter you from any truth...

Once again I'll point out Korea didn't and hasn't banned anyone. Only in the last couple days they're making all visitors go through a 2-week quarantine because some dumbass Brit tourist broke quarantine despite showing symptoms (presumably was still waiting on test results) and visited 4 cities. In your home of you're a resident or a government facility of you don't have a place of residence.

I had to look up what the TCF Center was. I mean, I'm old by Reddit standards, but I'm only in my 30s. It's still Pine Knob, too.
